We managed to have a raeg-filled discussion on these books that spanned twenty pages on the old forums, so I thought we could do it again.
Anyone on the internet who knows me knows I loath the series. Zoe is a bitch, they're all hypocrites, and the "vampires" are more like blood-drinking witches than creatures of the night.
The fansites are lulzy though. >.>

I, too, seriously disliked them. I got to book 3 through sheer force of will, and couldn't bring myself to go any further.

I guess I like the concept, but Zoey's a bitch. And I hate how she just screams "PITY ME!" all of the time.

I'm reading the first book, and I either laugh or raeg every 5 pages.
One thing that I'm kind of confused about; why does this girl seem to think blowjobs are evil? I mean, I can understand being grossed out, but she seems to think only slutty girls and girls who are being used by their boyfriends for sex give blowjobs.

I've been keeping up with it. I like it, except for Zoe. She's a hypocritical bitch who uses guys for her own benefit. She also has pretty much every STRAIGHT guy wanting to sex her up. That always annoyed me. The concept of it is interesting though, I mean they should have called them witches and not vampires, but I like the idea of them having their own religion and customs as opposed to just brooding all the time. Of course, Zoe does that anyway.
Now, I can understand her dislike for BJ's, I find them gross too =/ and would never do it myself, but I do know that it's not limited to "naughty girls". It just doesn't appeal to me.
Anyway, I do agree with what is being said so far. Zoe does whine and complain all the time, and always pities herself when she does something wrong. I sided with Eric and the gang when she slept with Lauren. Hell kind of a name is that for a guy, anyway? Like she didn't expect it to come bite her in the ass later.
Still, it's the concept idea itself that keeps me reading. Besides, it's almost to the last book, and I may as well finish what I started. I enjoy snarking Zoe, anyway.

I nearly had all of the books and then did not even bother to read one page of any of the books before I sold them at Half Price.

Which is how the girls around here pronounce it. =/
But anyway. Yeah. I don't know who is worse. Bella, or Zoe.

Cheyah, I'm only defending it because I think theres a difference, and I don't like when people always say "that's a girls name" to unisex names. I still hate the series, and a lot of the other names are incredibly dumb.

^ This, so... much...
There was so much damn potential in the series as a whole, but the bitchy attitude from someone who was meant to be a sympathetic character. I actually wished the villains would just kill her off already. I actually liked Neferet and Aphrodite more than I liked the protagonists. When that happens, you know you're doing it wrong.

I made it through the first few (maybe 3 or 4, I can't remember) and I got sick of the anticlimactic endings and the relentless idocracy. I felt like I was watching that movie Idiocracy.

I have a shitload of problems with this series, but one of my biggest one was the constant pop culture references that stay current with the time of the book's publishing. In one book, you'd have them going to the movies to watch 300, and then in the next book that's only a few months later(or a few days in the newer books)they'd be talking about Glee or True Blood, which definitely weren't out when 300 was in theatres.

This was one of my biggest issues with the series as well. To add insult to injury and pop-culture abuse, within the HoN universe every famous actor/actress, writer, singer, poet, artist is a vampire. And if they aren't a vampire, then their most famous works of art were about vampires. Stoker's Dracula becomes nothing more then a catty revenge piece by a spurned lover against a vampire priestress. All of Shakespeare's dark woman sonnets are about a vampire (and I think he was a vamp too). All of young hot Hollywood are vampires...just enough already. We get it, everything good and beautiful and awesome comes from the fucking vampires. They are beautiful, talented, and the best of everything with fucking double rainbows blowing out their asses...all da way across the sky...

Yup. And a whole bunch of other random pop culture references. I'm surprised they haven't mentioned Twilight in any of them.

Definitely this. I couldn't tolerate all the pop cultures since it added plot holes and inconsistencies. There were some research fail on the Catholic Nuns worshipping Nyx. Go figure. >.>

I posted about the popculture of a HoN forum. It didn't churn up that many replies, and none of them were very engadging answers. Ugh, vampires being a part of history. How does that work? If there is this prejudice against the vamps, shouldn't all these famous figures be...well, not famous? Or at least looked upon with negitivity. If Shakespeare was a vampire, and normal humans hate vampires, then why do people still adore his work? And wait a sec, how the hell can the best stars be vampires? Their marks make it impossible for them to act any other part than a vampire. And that's probably this world's equivilent of having a character in a wheelchair; you don't do it unless there is a reason behind it. Of course there's makeup, but humans don't know of it. Yeah, I'm starting to hate these writers.

I first knew this as the 'Twilight Series: Only Facial Markings!' the Books before I read them and the original thread. But now I know them as 'The Adventures of Annoying Zo-hoe and Her Lackeys' after reading the books and thread.
Seriously, Zoey never has a nice opinion or nicely worded on at least. She's the incarnate of Word Vomit: Saying whatever comes in her head and she doesn't have the decency to clean it up after a while. She does says it and goes on.
I think it's supposed to make her 'frank' and 'strong' in the eyes of the writers but it comes off as 'bitchy' and 'making-want-the-logical-readers-hate-her-gutsy' to us.
Also, if I'm correct, in the series Aphrodite
Loses her vampire status (and thus her facial markings that shows she's a vampire) and in order to not let people know, she draws on her face with a fucking marker. And it works.
Right?

A tattoo I would understand. Since I kept imagining it to look like one when reading the books.
But a fucking marker?!
Jesus Christ. Yes, one does expect the teachers to realize when
a marking is a marking and when a marking is just a lopsided doodle on a student's face.
Or is this a Stealth Insult to themselves?
... no, no. It's serious. God.

Maybe the teachers let her stay because she knew so much about vampires/because of her powers?
Or for the more likely reason, the authors just didn't think of it.

The series is awful. But its awfulness is not what I want to bitch about right now. I was just reading the second book when: I am so fucking pissed! I love cats and I feel strongly about them. Just tell me something bad that happened to a cat - even movie/book character - and you'll have me crying on the spot. My grandparents had an overfed dog. He was slow, barely moved and he wheezed while he slept. It physically hurt me to see him suffering like this. If it's a cat, I can't stand it even in a book. Yeah, Im sorry, I know I'm overreacting, but when an animal is wheezing in its sleep - it's really, really bad. The way Zoey comments on it makes me want to slap the bitch. So the cat is fat enough to not be able to sleep peacefully and she decides she's 'just obsessively adding to her stress level'? I want her to suffer.

Just tell me something bad that happened to a cat - even movie/book character - and you’ll have me crying on the spot. My grandparents had an overfed dog. He was slow, barely moved and he wheezed while he slept. It physically hurt me to see him suffering like this. If it’s a cat, I can’t stand it even in a book. Yeah, I’m sorry, I know I’m overreacting quite a bit, but when an animal is wheezing in its sleep – it’s really, really bad. The way Zoey comments on it makes me want to slap the bitch. So the cat is fat enough to not be able to sleep peacefully and she decides she’s “just obsessively adding to her stress level”? I want her to suffer. The kitten-pic makes me smile ;D. Even full of hatred and burning with rage he is all sorts of cute. I hate to defend HoN, even a little, but some cats and dogs have weird snores that sound like wheezing. My mom has a cat that makes the weirdest, freakiest moaning noise as she sleeps. She's fine, just has a really weird snore. Now the allergies and fat-cat bit is unforgivable (done defending HoN, because that stupidity can only be rationalized so far). If you think something is wrong with your cat, take it to the fucking vet. Sneezing could be a sign of an upper respiratory infection, and cats do need to see the vet for that. My cat had one and I had to shove pills down her throat for a couple weeks (fun times as any cat owner knows). Obesity is another issue Zoho should be concerned about in her cat. Pets are actually having an easier time in getting overweight these days, and it can cause all sorts of health issues just like with people. It can also indicate a health issue, my family had a cat that became so fat she couldn't clean herself properly, and it wasn't overeating; she had problems with her liver and eventually died. A fat belly can also indicate worms. If I were Zoho, I would be concerned, especially since she found Nala wandering around outside. Plus, even if the cat is healthy, she still needs to take the cat to the vet for a general check up and rabies/distemper shot. Spaying would also be something she needs to considered...but all of the above is only something Zoho needs to think about if she actually, you know, cares about her cat.

^^ Of course, cats/dogs making some noises while sleeping is quite normal. But in this case, it probably isn't. We have two important pieces of information there: - The cat wheezes, sneezes and snores. - The cat is fat, and seriously so ('as fat as a Butterball turkey', 'Carrying around all that cat fat couldn't be easy.'). Now this is something you should definitely be concerned about. Even Zoey herself thinks the cat wheezes because it's fat.
But, yes, I may have been too quick to assume Nala was overfed. The conclusion came to me naturally: fat cat + no information about other health problems and the owner not being concerned about them + wheezing + the fact that I've seen it before. Touchy subject, I guess.
Either way, Zoey is not a good owner. She chose to ignore an obvious (at least to me) problem, but has plenty of time to daydream about three different guys.

^ Yeah. As a person who owns 9 cats, seeing a fictional character not take good care of their own kitties just pisses me off. For all she knew, her kitty could be sick.
I also didn't like how she bashes "people of faith" repeatedly in the books. I didn't like the "teenspeak" at all. Zoey annoyed the daylights out of me.

There is no reason why she's ten pounds fatter than our other cat since we feed them the same amount of cat food (and no, nobody steals from each other). We have no idea why she can't just be a normal size - first, she was extremely underweight, now she's fat.
