So, if you were a half-blood, which God/Goddess you think would be your parent?
Mine would possibly be Athena or Apollo

^Hecate for sure. Minor gods ftw!
Anyway, I really liked these books. I know they're a lot like Harry Potter, but I don't mind, personally. Also, has anyone read the Lost Hero? I thought it was great.

I still haven't read the final book, since paperback is taking its goddamn time actually being published (Ordered it on my birthday, May 6 of 2010 and it comes out the end of THIS MONTH!)
So don't spoil me yet

I liked the books (Still haven't read the fifth one, because just like Phoenix said, it's taking FOREVER to come out in paperback). However, some of the jokes are really lame (I'm mainly referring to the "dam" one.) And Percy and a few of the others constantly whine, which makes me want to throw the books across the room (especially when...what Beth[?] was kidnapped or whatever -haven't read them in ages, so my memory is kinda iffy-.) I think it happens in the third book...? Maybe...XD

Yes, the whining is a little excessive, but I think that's common with people of that age group, or at least it is for my nephews.

Have read the first two books, kind of liked them. Not my favourite series (doesn't even attempt at reaching the awesomeness of say, the Midnighters), but it has a cool idea and alright writing. I just remember cracking up at the "centre of culture is the USA" part. Yeah, suuuure...

^Well, if you want to be technical, America is sort of the center of Western Civilization at the moment.

I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH. Minor gods ftw indeed... I'd be daughter of Moros. Anyone with the title 'God of impending doom' has to be pretty cool.
The movie was a letdown though >.> Mostly because they changed so much it was barely recognisable.

^I HATED the movie. I mean, how can they take out the main antagonist of a series? How stupid are they??

^I HATED the movie. I mean, how can they take out the main antagonist of a series? How stupid are they?? And they made Percy 16 AT THE START!!! The whole point of Percy being 12 was they were building up this prophecy at the end of the final book where he would be 16! YOU JUST RUINED THE PLOT TO THE WHOLE SERIES!!!

Seriously, just look at this crap. camphalfblood.wikia.com/wiki/The_Lightning_Thief_Book_and_Movie_DifferencesSome of these are just picky little details, granted. But there's also an awful lot of STONKING GREAT BIG WHOPPERS.

^I liked the movie /shot As a standalone, though. It wasn't good when compared to the books, or when one looked at all the plot fails. But, as *just* a movie, it wasn't too bad.

If I hadn't had higher expectations before seeing it and spent the whole time cringing about the changes, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

^I chose to rip my expectations up as soon as I walked into the cinema. I've seen too many book-to-movie conversions that have been absolutely shit that I wasn't expecting anything even passably decent. So I was pleasantly surprised. Not to mention the soundtrack, which I may have slightly adored >.>

THIS BUGGED ME SO MUCH. He's had exactly zero training in using his powers, he has exactly zero experience using his powers, and yet he can produce a water wall to match the one that woke up Typhon! In the books, he has no control over his powers at the beginning and even once he's mastered them enough to do so, producing that much water (well, along with falling into the sea near Ogygia, but STILL) causes him to pass out for weeks! The movie has basically turned him into a Stu!

^What the FFF-----?!
I think the script writer watched too much Disney for this. As if the humor and the want to rule the Upperworld isn't obvious enough. But seriously, did they really have to give him a rockstar getup? Now I am sure I will probably never see this movie. It's totally skewered away from the book. Seesh.

Mine would possibly be Athena or Apollo Hmm, probably Artemis or Poseidon. I've always loved nature and the ocean so they'd be more in line with me I guess, with Artemis you get the feeling she'd take more of an interest in in your life, Zeus comes off as, well, a selfish jerk. He seemed to only do Thalia's mom because she was hot, Poseidon in contrast seemed to be attracted to Percy's mom for her personality and spirit, he seems to genuinely care for Percy, Zeus on the other hand, didn't seem to lift a finger for Thalia Also, I was cackling madly when Gabe was introduced to auntie Em, I've never been a fan of sculptures but I think I'd make an exception to see Sally Jackson's The Poker Player

Also, Percy thought Annabeth was dead, I think he had the right to whine.

^But even so XD, doesn't change the fact that it was lame XD.
Yes, but whining will do NOTHING--ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, he should've focused the energy he spent on his damned whining towards being more determined to find her, whether dead or alive.
At least, that is my perspective.

You're forgetting, he's a teenage child. They don't understand that whining does nothing.

No I didn't forget, hell, I also know plenty of adults that whine and whine some more, much to my dismay. I just think he should've put his energy into something more...productive. But oh well, I suppose it doesn't matter all things considered, especially considering that after I read volume five [when it comes out on paperback], I'm probably not going to reread any of the books. They were more of a one-time thing for me XD.

..Even with spoilers I got a spoiler. Well then.
I remember reading this series, but I don't think I got far beyond the second novel. My younger brother on the other hand...he's enamored with it. Funny, cause he pretty much got the others hooked on reading and I've been trying to do that for years. OTL
They have seen the movie, but unfortunately I wasn't there at the time. From what I heard, it was rather humorous as he stood up and dictated to the tv that everything was going wrong and that the movie should've gone back to rectify matters. D'aaww.
As for wondering which deity would be most befitting as my parent, well, I think I'll leave that as is. Far too complex for the likes of my simple mind, yo.

If you could be Deity, who would you choose? What would you rule over?

Half kidding. Um, haven't explored the the book's grasp of mythology and etc enough to really give an honest opinion. Unless you're just talking in general. Then it would really be as Hades or Nyx and stuff. >__>
And you?

My list of issues with this series is very, very long, to say the least. I'll just name four for right now.
1) I hate how whenever the protagonists have the audacity to not act like the sun doesn't shine out of the Sky Bully's ass (or Zeus, as most people call him), there's a roll of thunder over the sky, and it's all played for laughs. Because it's hilarious whenever my uncle threats to beat me to death!
2) Hades having demigod children. This one is rather minor, but that pissed me off because Hades in the myth was one of the few, possible the only, male deities to actually be faithful to his wife.
3) Whenever they had Tantalus show up Riordan would have food and water dance out of his reach and it's played as black comedy. Because being mercilessly tormented forever and ever for a single act of murder* is just HILARIOUS. And that it's portrayed negatively that he wants to overthrow the gods. Well no shit! They haven't had starving to death for thousands of years and I still want them overthrown, so I can only imagine how much justified hate he must have the gods.
4) Whenever we find out that Hera was the one to throw Hephaestus off the mountain, not the Sky Bully, that's the point at which I had to put the book down and think about something else to keep from throwing the book at the wall. I always thought that the fact that Hera was nice to Hephaestus (as opposed to the other gods, who hate him because he's ugly) was one of the very few nice things you could possibly say about her. That really got under my skin because the book already did enough Sky Bully glorification while at the same time not even bothering to hide what he's really like.
*I'm about 98.44% certain that the gods didn't give a shit about the murdered boy, since they made a baby killer a goddess (Medea), but rather that they were personally affronted by being fed human.
I could make a huge long list about the flaws in the books but the biggest ones are all about how the gods are just plain evil (and how Humanity Sucks). Yes, they're more sympathetic than they are in the myths, but that's like saying an ordinary wife beater who only kills one woman is more sympathetic than Jeffrey Dahmer.
