Author's Note: This was written in my Creative Writing class. I got an A+. despite the fact that I wasn't really fond of the assignment to being with. Anyway, ignore ridiculous phrases. The point of the assignment was to come up with stupid descriptions, then trade them with a partner, and then write a story about them. I came up with this.
The Classroom Prison. That is what the students here refer to the class
run by the tyrannical teacher, Ms. ‘Face-like-a-bulldog’ Toad. Ms. Toad is
notorious for using her super power of melting steel with her eyes to
intimidate and bully students. She was a goat-haired woman, with a face
like an upside down triangle. She had a spit gap you could park your car
in, and she always looked like she had just finished sucking on a lemon.
She looked like a strong wind could knock her down, but she is a very
scary person. Her skin is as rough as sand , and rumor has it that she ate
a bright eyed little girl, Raquel, an intelligent young prodigy who skipped
through school so fast that she was in High school by the time she was
ten. However, Ms. Toad does not much appreciate being corrected.
According to Legend, Raquel had told Ms. Toad that there was no such
thing as The City of Lights, Green Ocean of Grassland, Gold Sea of Prairie
Land, or a Sea of Wheat. Ms. Toad got very quiet, and the class went still.
Suddenly, her long tongue lashed out, and Raquel was swallowed in an
instant.
The Story has been repeated thousands of times throughout the years of
high school. We, as a student body, have decided enough is enough, and
we must quest to vanquish this evil from our school forever. I and five
others volunteered to venture forth to locate Ms. Toad’s house. We spent
weeks tracking down her lair, and once we found it, we went forth.
To reach her house, we first had to cross the Lush Grassland. We walked
among the grass slowly, casually chatting about schoolwork and our
everyday lives. None of us wanted to admit we were terrified.
Suddenly, the field was filled with screams and yells. I looked over my
shoulder to see one of my companions lying on the ground, an arrow in
his chest. I looked toward the Sun-dappled forest, and I saw the savages
dashing towards us, brandishing weapons and uttering war cries.
Savages! She must have found out somehow!
We had no choice but to flee to the skeletal farmland. This farm was once
inhabited by a man who loved animals so much; he would never kill them,
even if the exhibited signs of supernatural possession. As a result, the
entire property was now haunted by the skeletal remains of its former
residents.
We dashed inside the barn and latched the door. We turned around, and
suddenly one of our own was struck down a skeleton horse kick. We
screamed in terror, as we turned and hurriedly tried to unlatch the door. It
came loose, and we tumbled out into the yard. A savage spotted us, so
we had no choice but to keep running.
We ran and fled into the Peaceful Forest, aptly named if you are a fan of
irony. This is where the Savages originated from. The four of us kept to
the undergrowth, trying to stay out of sight. Suddenly, one of my
comrades let out a shriek as she was lifted dangling into the air by a rope
suspended by a tree. A Snare!
The Savages heard the shriek and came running. We had no choice but to
ignore our friend’s screams for help as we fled. I stole a glance over my
shoulder and saw that the savages were jabbing spears at our friend while
one appeared to be starting a fire. Sickened, I looked ahead.
We had arrived at the Scorching Desert. The Savages would not follow us
here. For you see, they had a great fear of the Giant Sand Serpent, a
beast that had long ago developed a taste for the savages of the forest.
One of my friends let out a shriek, as a Scorpion dropped into from his
hat. He tried to crush it with his foot, but his eyes became wide and his
body slackened, as he fell over.
We left him there, lying still on the ground, so we could complete our
mission. We were careful to take his warning to heart, however. From
then on, no Scorpion would ever get near us.
We came to the end of the Desert, and our water supply, and arrived at
the Frozen Tundra. The Tundra would be a hard trek, but I was sure we
could get through it relatively unscathed. From here, I could even see the
mountain where Ms. Toad’s house was located.
The most direct way to this mountain was to scale a nearby cliff, descend
it on the other side, and then walk across the Frozen Wasteland to the
Mountain. The two of us scaled the cliff in a heartbeat, but descending a
sheer rock face was much more difficult than ascending one. We went
down, slowly at first, but we then began picking up speed.
My hand slipped.
I could feel myself falling, when my friend grabbed my hand.
I struggled to regain my handholds, and after a few minutes of agony, I
finally regained my grip.
As soon as I had let go, the rock my friend had been holding onto broke
off, and her face showed pure terror as she plummeted to her death. I
looked on in shock for a while, but then I started moving again.
Her Body was partially crushed by the heavy rock, but I could still see her
face. I nodded to her, and then I moved on.
The Wasteland gave me time to think about my life, and how lucky I was
to have made it this far. Soon, soon, justice would be served. Ms. Toad
was going down.
I reached the mountain and began the long hike upwards. When I reached
the summit, I was shocked by the tranquil mountaintop. It was very
peaceful. Then I saw her house.
Ms. Toad’s house was so old a Dinosaur could have built it. It had a dome
shaped roof, and the walls were made of human flesh. Doubtless that is
what she ate when she was bored.
I walked slowly up to the doorbell, and hesitated. I had come all this way,
and now I was too nervous to ring the bell. What if I couldn’t stand up to
her? What if I was to join little Raquel, trapped in her stomach for all of
eternity?
I rang the bell.
The door was open almost instantly.
“Ah, Hello.” She said, pretending to be nice. “Won’t you step in?”
I shook my head.
“No, no, please, I insist!” She cajoled, grabbing my arm. I rolled my eyes
and stepped inside.
As soon as the door was shut, all pretense of being a nice person
dropped. She strode over to the open window and snapped it shut.
Turning to me, she smiled at me in the most predatory manner.
“Ah, don’t think I don’t know why you are here, Lovely student of mine.”
She said. Her smile widened. “You think it’s time I retired, don’t you?”
I nodded.
Ms. Toad laughed. “Oh, but I love teaching so much dear. It makes me
feel so alive, bullying you all as if you were all my own children. You see, I
am one of those who feel that if you don’t really push your students to
the limit, they won’t learn much at all.” Her smile widened still. “But I
suppose if you… force me to retire, I suppose karma will get you
eventually. After all, there’s only one me. If I go, your education goes as
well.”
I went for my sword, but she was too quick. She dodged, laughing, as I
tried to slash her. Her eyes began glowing with that familiar silver light,
and I froze in my tracks. She was going to try to melt me. I absolutely
had to get out of the way.
Ms. Toad clutched her chest, gasping. The light faded away, as she fell to
the floor, still grasping her heart. I lowered my sword, staring at her. She
gave one little shutter, than exploded.
I was thrown backwards into the wall and was knocked unconscious.
When I came to, I got up and investigated.
Raquel had still been alive. She had built a bomb. She had blown up Ms.
Toad to escape. She had been impaled by my sword as I flew backwards.
I had killed the very reason I came to slay the monster in the first place.
I felt sick. My head was throbbing, and I felt as if I was going to pass out
again. In a stupor, I headed for the door.
I made it all the way back to the Wasteland before I decided I was too
tired to go on. I sat down in the snow and looked up at the stars.
The Stars were so pretty. I’ve always wanted to be a star. To just shine
up there, forever. Or at least, for longer than most men. Just like I want
to fall asleep now.
When I wake up, I think I’ll ask my guidance counselor on how to become
a star. I’d do whatever it takes. When I wake up. When I wake up.
A/N: Amusingly, I turned the assignment in when the MC arrived at the door... I forgot to grab the last page. I looked it over again, and I decided I preferred the ambigous ending, but I really, really, liked everyone dying in the end.
ANyway, it's not very good, but what do you think?
