Really? I'll agree to a point that Hermione is a strange name for anyone who just started reading HP, but she has more character in her eyelash than Bella Swan has in her whole body. And for the record, whiny and Hermione don't rhyme. And you spelled rhyme wrong.
I'm also thinking you didn't do a lick of research into the characters names to figure out what they mean. Actually, the fact that you automatically assume that she got the name from Ronald McDonald is sad.

Too tired to actually snark the whole thing. But I think it's reasonably arguable that Pureblood wizarding families might have slightly different naming customs than Muggle families. It makes sense that a)they'd want to make their children's names different from those of Muggles and b)they'd name their children after astronomical landmarks, since astronomy is apparently rather important in the wizarding world. Rowling and SMeyer both use names that make sense based on the world in which their stories take place.

And, either way, the result was something absurd, not fitting the period or locale, and not even working with the given culture of the characters.

OT: I'm not even going to bother with her seriously. While I don't think Harry Potter is the best book ever, at least Rowling bothered to do a good job, I doubt Meyer is capable on her own to come with plot lines like Rowling did.
But then again, Rowling did research and tried her best to give the characters substance. |

I'm having a hard time believing that this is real. If it is, I kind of fear for the future of humanity.  The names in Harry Potter match the world in which the story takes place. Yes, they're strange names...but the wizarding world is much different from the muggle world. Also, Harry Potter may have weird names, but at least the characters have personalities and at least the books actually have a well written plot. There's no love in Harry Potter? The whole point of Harry Potter is LOVE. It's a huge theme in the series. It's Twilight that doesn't have any real love. Abuse, obsession, and pedophillia are NOT love. Oh, I almost forgot. There are no hot guys in Harry Potter? I beg to differ.  There are hot guys, with personalities, who aren't abusive....and who aren't sparkling, freezing, statue corpses. I don't know very many people who would want to have sex with a frozen corpse that's covered in glitter.   |

1: The name comes from Greek mythology. Granted, it's a very uncommon name, but at least it's an actual goddamn name, unlike 'Renesmee'... or 'Mitt'.

So the big problem with Harry Potter is that everyone is, apparently, ugly and weird. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; it is also skin deep. You do not have to be inhumanly beautiful to be a decent person; nor does a character need to be physically gorgeous to be interesting and appealing.
Also, "old people aren't supposed to be gay"? What? Is this going with the whole "death isn't natural" thing you mentioned earlier? Do you think we're all meant to be immortal and stay young foreve—oh. You poor child. You think Twilight is real, don't you?
You answered your own question—sadistic and creepy villains aren't exactly known for being considerate. That's part of making an interesting character; not everybody is sunshine and flowers 24/7, and characters who are, in the hands of an untalented writer, can end up insufferably boring if not outright annoying. But of course, as a rabid Twilight fangirl, cardboard cutouts take pride of place above actual, fleshed-out characters any day.
And yet, somehow, you trying to "lord" Twilight over Harry Potter fans is not rude? Double standards ahoy.
