Q: "I want to be a mod, too! How can I become one?"
A: While we're glad you want to join the staff, we aren't accepting applications at this time. We have a kick-ass mod team, as you know, and until we feel that the site grows to the point where it becomes difficult to manage, we're quite satisfied with our current mods.
Periodically, as our staff shifts or we think the site's growing, we'll open announcements for applications for Mini-Mod positions. These will usually be preceded by Mods becoming Admins and existing Mini-Mods becoming Mods. There's no real way to foresee when such shifts will occur, but we'll announce it when apps are being accepted.
If you do get a Mini-Mod position, be aware that mods who've been around longer will, by default, be chosen for promotion first*. Actually, that's the way it works with all the ranks. The longest to be in the position are the first considered for promotion (activity also plays a role). Basically, don't be surprised if it takes you a good long while to get a promotion.
*This in no way should be taken to mean that simply being around the site longer will guarantee that you get a Mini-Mod position, should you apply. Rather, it's what you've done with your time here that is taken into account. Hence why a duration and post count recommendation is included, as it will give us a better frame of reference with which to gauge applicants. Members who predominantly inhabit the chatroom, while typically exempt from the post requirement, are still going to have the overall impressions of them by the staff that monitor the room relay their thoughts to the rest of the staff when applicants are being reviewed.
-Amended 7/11/10.
