So, who else is looking forward to see it? I was hoping to see Lee Pace as Thranduil in the trailer, sadly, no show.

Oh, absolutely. And I hope they do an extended edition of each, similar to what they did with the trilogy. >.>
...because I love that sort of shit. Not just "extended editions," mind, but extended editions where the extension is actually substantial.

I am so psyched to see it. The Hobbit is my childhood and I will be so spazzy while watching the new movies.

*boogies down* I wonder if they're going to keep it relatively light hearted like the original or if they're going to darken it more like LOTR. I hope they keep the tone of the books. At least they're keeping at least one of the songs!

On that note, the pictures of Lee Pace as Thranduil look fantastic, I remember him from Pushing Daisies and he was such a cute puppy there. And playing the elvenking needs a bit of fierce.

If they can do an extended version of each like they did for the trilogy, ending up with them being about the same length, marathoning it would quite literally take all day. 18 hours, leaving the last six for food, sleep, and bathroom breaks. Perfect for when you just need to escape to Middle Earth for a while. I'd definitely be down for that. Speaking of, I need to get around to setting up a game system or something within the next few days. Got a five day weekend coming up, apparently, so I've got time to kill.

^I've marathoned the movies, the extended ones ;D and would totally do the 18 hrs for the whole Hobbit/LOTR, even if my mom thinks I'm insane.
Enjoy that weekend Zax! And don't forget the snacks

Enjoy that weekend Zax! And don't forget the snacks As have I. At least three times. Also did the original Star Wars trilogy a time or four, too. Hell, even with having to eat, sleep, and help my grandparents on their farm, I marathoned the LOTR trilogy of books in just over a week. Could probably do it faster if there weren't distractions. Oh, I will. Snacks might be a bit low, though, as I have to budget myself rather strictly until I get my first payday. Not stopping me from probably (not sure if it's decided or another movie will be seen instead) seeing Taken 2 on Saturday. Thankfully, it seems English language films are shown in the original language here. Otherwise, I'd be hoping for subtitles or having to really improve on lipreading. >.>;

With free time and no distractions, reading LOTR is a pleasure. On the snack issue, make yourself some food that you can re-heat. A pot of chilli or something like that. That way you don't hurt your budget too much if the snacks run out. Good to hear you get your movies in English, subtitles can be a tad annoying sometimes. Most of our movies in the movie theater have them [/color]

Oh, I've already taken to making more than I need for a meal. Like, if I make pancakes, I make more than enough batter, cook it all up, and stick the leftovers in the fridge. You really don't even need to reheat 'em. Plus, ramen's pretty cheap, and they've got some really good ramen around here. Plus, a bowl of cereal is good pretty much any time of day, and scrambling eggs doesn't take much, either. I don't mind subtitles if it's the only way I can understand a movie. Loved Pan's Labyrinth. But I'd rather hear it in English. Problem is, my coworkers told me that the Korean films don't feature any subtitles unless viewed on DVD, so I can't see 'em in theaters without running the risk of pestering my fellow patrons with "what're they saying now?" and "what's going on?" >.>; On the plus side, tickets are much cheaper here in the states. From what they said, the regular viewing cost is about equivalent to the matinee cost in the states.

Glad to hear you won't be starving yourself when I make my pancakes I leave them out so they won't require a reheating, unless I'm leaving them for me to have for breakfast early in the morning.
I clearly had no trouble with Pan's Labyrinth for obvious reasons ;D And my uncle loves movies, so I've watched a lot of Korean and Japanese movies in dvd myself. But since most of our movies come from the US, they mostly have subtitles or not. And here the movie tickets are at a solid 6/7 bucks, which isn't bad itself.

Saw the movie at midnight! Absolutely loved it, especially getting to see the dwarf city of Erebor in all of its glory.
Plus, Thranduil's epic battle-moose and Radagast's bunny sled.

Did you guys watch the 24 fps version or the 48? Cause I saw the 48fps 3D and while it was jarring at first... it REALLY sucked me into the story.
I LOVED Bilbo and Gandalf in this... and hot Dwarf! I want!

Didn't see it in 3D. It's December, I have enough financial obligations that an evening 3D price wasn't something I was planning on.
May I just say that I love how Smaug
wasn't really shown much at all? Sure we saw his feet, his shadow, one eye, and a nostril, but I liked that they let the destruction speak for itself.

I knew they were gonna pull a Gollum with Smaug in the first movie. A small glimpse, not much, not until he's more relevant to the plot.

I was enthused for The Hobbit until I found out that they cast Hubert Bandersnatch as Smaug. The Sherlock fangirls already were moistening their panties over Martin Freeman as Bilbo, now they're gonna overtake everyone else with crossover fanfic and anglophilia.
Siiiigh, I suppose we can't have everything now can we?

They might have his voice changed enough that you won't be able to recognize him though. While I can't believe I'm invoking Michael Bay here, listen to Megatron's voice. That's Elrond right there.
So for those afraid of the panty-moistening crowd, it's quite possible we won't even recognize Cumberdale's voice when all is said and done. Will the knowledge be there? Yes. Will it be possible to base the reactions off of "DAT VOICE~~~~~"? Maybe not so much.

My worry is if the voice will live up to the Voice from the Animated Smaug that I know so well from my youth.

I was intensely enthralled by the sheer amount of detail in the movie, though knowing tolkien, I'm sure a LOT got left out. I really enjoyed it, wish I would've went at midnight but it was not to be. (I haven't read the book yet, but I'll get around to it.)

Saw it with my fiancee and I loved it. The music was amazing, the detail was amazing, the cgi was breathtaking, and I can't wait until the second part and when this first part comes out on DVD.

I'm sure a LOT got left out. having recently finished re-reading the book, I can say that...well, not much was left out. I think a few minor details and some songs are missing, while other things were changed, but if anything, this movie had stuff ADDED.
Azog pursuing Thorin? Yeah, not in the book. The Council meeting? Not in the book. Radagast the Brown? Not in the book. The Stone Giant fight? That happened several miles away, and several in the company were grateful they weren't in the middle of it.
Basically the stuff that wasn't originally mentioned was either referenced/explained in Fellowship of the Ring, or put into appendices/notes.
The thing is, The Hobbit was written very differently from Lord of the Rings. It's much simpler and less...wordy. The added content is in there both for plot, and to anchor these movies in the LOTR movie setting properly.

Saw it with my boyfriend and his friends. All I can say is I FUCKING LOVE THE DWARVES. The singing, the comaraderie...they were awesome.
But have to agree with Madaraki: while I haven't read the book, the group I saw the movie with noticed that there was stuff added. Not sure how Jackson plans on tying 'em all together, but I'm sure it'll be epic.

Everything added was from the footnotes or to establish when in the greater course of events of Middle Earth that the Hobbit took place. He was quite thorough. >.>
I quite enjoyed having the backstory of things presented in such a way. Especially how, while the characters remain unaware of how what they're doing tie into the grand scheme of things, the audience gets to be aware of it.
...as Madaraki said. >.>

Well, most of it anyway.
Azog was actually killed by Dain (I believe) at Moria. His son Bolg led the orcs against Thorin in The Battle of Five Armies.
Azog hunting Thorin out of revenge over his hand was neither in the book nor in the appendices/footnotes.
Going further into the appendices, it's rather alarming just how much preptiming Gandalf did against Sauron. He'd had it in mind to diminish Sauron's resources for years for fear of his return and Smaug happened to be one of those potential resources. He ended up meeting with Thorin (by "chance") and nudged him on his quest and well......
Gandalf's setting them all up to hunt Smaug down and recover the mountain with the express purpose of ridding Middle Earth of someone who would likely be one of Sauron's deadliest assets.
At the same time he's keeping an eye out for Sauron's ring. Saruman once derisively said that it was surely lost for all time, and Gandalf's never quite trusted that assumption...

Granted, but some slight changes did need to be made for the purpose of having it on the screen. For the purpose of a revenge thing, I think it makes it a slightly more compressed thing to have Azog being the one hunting Thorin rather than bringing in Bolg. That, and it also makes it more, for the film, that the good guys are good and the bad guys are bad. Seeking revenge for the death of one's father would be potentially redeeming. >.>
...and I do believe you mean that Batman is the human Mithrandir. XD

That all depends. The Hobbit precedes Batman by two years, but Fellowship and all else came after Batman's creation, so it all depends on when Tolkien put in the notes/appendices material.
