I should feel like a hypocrite for loving One Piece and yet turning around to Rob Liefeld and asking "WHY MUST YOU MAKE WOMENS' WAISTS SO DAMN SKINNY AND GIVE THEM MISSILES FOR BOOBS?"
....And yet Oda can still do so many other things so marvelously. I suppose it's also the fact that Oda pretty much does his own work whereas Liefeld does...well, *that* to characters like Captain America.
I have long held the belief that Liefeld is one of those things that became popular in the 90's and failed to properly fade away the way Superman's mullet and Susan Richards' 4-shaped cleavage window did.

^Apparently he's still around cause in some ways he's easy to work with, though I don't remember exact details. Either way its hilarious how he's been in this industry for ages and still has no idea how human bodies work. (Here, everybody. Have some eschergirls: eschergirls.tumblr.com/tagged/Rob-Liefeld/chrono)

The only good thing he ever did was to create Deadpool. But it was other writers who gave him the personality we know and love, as he first started out as just a Deathstroke clone.

I think One Piece is easier to forgive since the characters are more stylized, like how no one complains that Bill Waterson draws Calvin's head bigger than the rest of his body. The more "realistic" style Liefeld uses makes the flaws all the more apparent.

I have Jhonen Vasquez's collection of the Squee issues. It also collected the meanwhile sections and one of them was parodying Liefeld's style (and/or rather, anatomically incorrect comic drawing in general).

The only good thing he ever did was to create Deadpool. But it was other writers who gave him the personality we know and love, as he first started out as just a Deathstroke clone. Actually Liefeld just had the costume design created when he showed it to Fabian Nicieza.
Nicieza pretty much knew Deadpool was a joke/gag character from the get-go, so we can thank him for setting the character on that path. Who knows; if Liefeld had eventually taken to writing him, he might've been another Youngblood style character.
Speaking of...
Rob Liefeld cannot into feet.
(Also, why does Slade have such tiny/stumpy arms there? That's not foreshortening...)

^ He messed with Dick Grayson one too many times. Papa Bat will only take so much messing with his Robins before he begins laying out smack downs and disfiguring limbs.

^ What? Out of all the DC heroes, he's got the most "kids" (actually adopted or just under his proverbial wing, and the few biological). Dick, Jason, Barbara (Gordon's daughter, but Bruce has had his influence and loves her all the same), Tim, Cass, Stephanie, Terry (and his brother Matt if we're getting technical), Damian, and Carrie Kelly ('cause I like Carrie).

Just the mental image of Batman with a white beard and a red Smurf hat has me giggling when I hear Papa Bats. I like BatDad better. Doesn't make me think Smurfs.

When I heard Papa Bat, the image of Batmen dressed as a pimp comes to mind.

^ Don't forget what this thread's about.
This has to be what Liefeld thinks when he sees a good comic artist... and doesn't do anything about it.

^ Right. Sorry. I think the one that disturbed me most was the first one of his "top 40 worst." Just...where does she keep her organs?! How does her ass jut out that far from the rest of her?! How does her spine not break from... existing?!LOOK AT HER! It looks like it hurts just to BE! Is that why all of Liefeld's characters grimace? From the sheer pain of their malformed existance? "Where are my eyes?! Who glued a shovel blade to my crotch?! What the hell is wrong with my body?! Muscles don't work like this! Please, someone put me out of my misery."

Isn't there an image where it looks like a guy got hit with one of Leifeld's character's crotch?
I mean seriously... people complained about Michael Turner's art... MICHAEL TURNER!!! and I have to laugh because of this BS.

I wonder why Rob Liefeld's anatomically-incorrect style even became popular. Maybe it was the way he drew women...
Well, he wasn't the "Ed Wood of Comics" for nothin'

^ But the way he draws women isn't sexy at all! It's frakkin' creepy.
Now, Adam Hughes's women on the other hand...

^ Good point. Other than that I can't think of any other reasons he became popular. Could anyone think of any?

^ Well, apparently he's one of the nicest guys in the industry, easy to work with (which means he was hired for more stuff), and is very supportive of comics as an art form. There was also the speculator boom in comics where people kept buying #1 issues in the hopes that they would make serious bank on them later, which backfired horrifically.
Plus, he rose to fame in the early '90s, when Pauly Shore was considered funny and Troll 2 came out. He is hardly the worst thing to come out of that period. Standards were lower then. People genuinely liked his style: bulging muscles where muscles shouldn't be, guns so ridiculous they should be unusable, stupid hair and costumes, no feet or eyes, pouches attached to more pouches that serve no purpose, women who were intended to be sexy but failed horribly, the whole package. Liefeld was XTREEEEEEEME!

^ How silly of me! That's one of the first things you see in a Liefeld drawing. Most of his male characters are comprised primarily of shoulderpad.

Someone on that youtube page asked "whats the name of that song they play when the 90s kid shows up?"
God, I feel old.
"Locutus in a leather jacket"

Have some eschergirls: eschergirls.tumblr.com/tagged/Rob-Liefeld/chrono)To put it bluntly, Liefeld still gets work mostly because American comics have really low standards for art. Especially mainstream stuff like DC and Marvel. We're talking about an industry that still gives a guy who traces porn for his art work. Often. It also really helps that he's apparently a really nice guy, and gets his work done on time ever since that Deathmate thing.
