[This is a poem that I wrote back in 2011. I wrote this when I couldn't sleep late at night. I wasn't exactly proud of what I wrote but at the same time, I'm proud of myself for finishing it if that made sense. Anyways, this is a free verse poem.]
Wandering freely around the streets
A gray tabby stray cat is on his feet
Searching for food to eat
His stomach grumbling nonstop
He found garbage near the coffee shop
Digging for food underneath
He finally found something worth it
Nibbling every bit
Of a leftover tuna can
Curiously looking under the sewer
The cat put himself down a little lower
Climbing down, he saw the water flowing
He couldn't help but go swimming
Getting out the water drying
The cat still kept on walking
Walking up in the bright, sunny morning
The tabby cat woke up stretching
A little boy walking on the sidewalk
He threw a cup of water where Tommy stalks
Drops of water from the cup he drink
The little boy found a tabby cat
Drinking water under the canal
He pointed out "mommy look a cat."
The mother turned around to look at Tommy
Holding the boy's hand "let's go sweetie."
"Mommy I want the cat." he begged.
"No honey, the cat is very dirty."
The little boy is very sad; he frowned.
The tabby cat returned down to the sewer
All day, he has been playing
He found a shadow walking
Down the sewer it's so dim
The footsteps so loud the cat was frightened
The man found the wet tabby cat scared
He looked deep into its green eyes and cared
"What is the cat doing here?" he asked
Grabbing the wet cat with his hands
He said, "I will take this cat."
As soon as he got out of the sewer
Holding the cat with his arms he couldn't be any happier
Thinking of giving him to his daughter Lilly.
"I am going to name you Tommy."
