This anime has been taking the internet by storm, and I figured it was time to create a thread to talk about it!
From the wikipedia article
And who can ignore this amazing opening?
I have absolutely fallen in love with this series, despite the several times it has made me cry. I adore Mikasa and Armin as characters (especially after the stuff Armin pulled in chapter 49 of the manga).
Warning: This thread will likely be very spoiler heavy and I recommend putting all spoilers in "spoiler" text-boxes.

Thank God you showed this Meghan. My friend showed this to me and my boyfriend and I'm glad he did. I love the anime even though Eren is sometimes annoying. He has a reason to angst and whine though it's because his mom was eaten by a Titan RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. He got to witness the death of his mom. If I were him, I'd be determined to get rid of the Titans too. The problem is that Eren isn't being realistic. I LOVE Mikasa. She's a badass character.

Eren is sometimes annoying, but I have more respect for him than I do for most shonen main characters.

Eren is sometimes annoying, but I have more respect for him than I do for most shonen main characters. He has a reason to be pissed. He's just not thinking straight sometimes. He let's his emotions get the best of him. Mikasa is emotionally stronger than Eren. I don't know how she manages to stay that way despite the Titans destroying the city. Armin, the blonde guy, is both emotionally and physically weak but he's smart. The problem I have with him is that he has low self-esteem.

That was my problem with Armin during the first few episodes, but the latest chapters of the manga have changed that.

There were the manga version of the anime in Japan Town on San Francisco. My friend and I should've got it but then we didn't have any money.

Honestly, I think that this is one of the new anime that deserves the hype that it gets. It's really a good anime with good artwork along with a compelling story. It's getting quiet popular in where I live. So far, they're selling Attack on Titan scrolls and posters. I didn't see any action figures so far, not from what I know.

Does anyone think that Mikasa has feelings for Eren? When someone said "Protect your boyfriend." She blushed and said "He's family."
I think that Mikasa is too overprotective of Eren. She probably does have romantic feelings for him but she's too good for him. Mikasa is smart, talented, physically and emotionally strong. I don't think it's possible for them to end up together since Eren is focused on wanting to kill all the Titans.

^ I think so. But, Eren of course is too dense to see. I guess it's because he only sees her as a sister.

He probably feels inferior towards her. Sometimes I hate how Eren treats Mikasa but she just puts up with it. She's concerned about him and doesn't him to die but he's all like "Stop treating me like a child."

I started this today, and reached episode 13 by sheer determination to finish the Battle of Trost.
Armin is, of course, my favorite character... mostly because of course I write characters like him. Plus he's just so sweet and I love him, gahhhh
At first I didn't like Eren OR Mikasa. Eren grew on me by episode four, but it took Mikasa a bit longer for me to like. Eren grew up, so that was good; Mikasa became more relatable instead of just a stock character of 'stoic badass girl.'
Can I just say though that episode five, with it's killing off of so many characters so quickly, made me freak out? And the first two episodes gave me a panic attack? xD

I'm scared to get attached to any characters because literally anyone can die in this series.

I disagree. I think minor characters die really easily, but the more major ones? Naaaaaaaaaaaaah.

^After reading more of the manga, I agree...
...and I'm seriously terrified for Armin, people keep bringing up that he's become ruthless and willing to risk his own life for things and die if need be and his whole 'swap out a pawn for a piece of higher value' thing...
...If they kill him off, Eren's gonna go fuckin' mega-jacked-up though... man, I don't know...

I've been reading through the manga's scans because I'm a filthy pirate, going to read Volume 4 soonish. Saw a few eps of the anime, thought it was tediously slow and drawn out. Later clips I've seen haven't really done much to impress me, but I'll finish it eventually (probably around the time hype around it is dead). I've seen far, far worse.
So far, it's... enjoyable for the most part, but it's honestly kind of bland so far. The core three are the average protagonists (Call me jaded and cynical, but they fit way too into the basic 'brawn, brains, and spirit' archetypes), the art is usually awful (and which is baffling, since Isayama can draw passable shonen-tier art), and a lot of the drama so far feels less genuine and more contrived (the attack on the first wall being especially noticeable- give us some damn time in the place, man).
The concept of Titan Shifters reminds me a good deal of the Ultra series, as well as Juushin Liger's biomecha- on top of me being a sucker for would-be mechs in a medieval fantasy world. I just think that the tweeeeeeest of Eren should've waited for a bit longer.
That said, the mystery around the Titans is genuinely interesting, the core concept is creative, and Jean's pretty enjoyable. When the art is good, it has a charming, oddball quality that kind of reminds me of the late, great Ken Ishikawa's style from the 80's onward.
And frankly, if there's any member of Dynamic Pro you should emulate, it's Ishikawa. Hell, I even hate Eren just a smidge less than from the first two volumes and have found Armin to be a bit more tolerable (though I still find Mikasa to be without any personality). With another ten volumes or so to kill, it should improve a good bit from here.

One of the most awesome things I've seen of late. 8/10 iHodor, I'd give you the "slow pace" though. The things I didn't like are:
1.Story arcs take waaaaaaay too long 2.Every.Single.F*cking.Episode... IT JUST HAD to be a cliffhanger 3.It doesn't have a proper ending... And no second season so far. Though I do appreciate that they didn't try and wrap everything up(because that always worked out in past). The day a second season gets here(No matter if it's good or bad)reason #3 goes away.

Alright, I;m further into the manga to have a better understanding of all this...
...And by now I'm literally only in it for Armin and Jean (and sort of Mikasa and the rest of the 104th.) The main cast is split into three sections: Erwin and the Monarchy, Levi and the 104th, and Eren and Historia. The story gained political ground around chapter 50 or so (primarily with Erwin), and really by chapter 55 the 'Titans' part of all this seems half-abandoned.
Actually, plenty of plot points seem half-abandoned (what's up, Basement? You hangin' tight?), because Isayama keeps adding plot point upon plot point. I would almost say there's a new twist every single chapter, a new character to have to keep track of, a new development in some area. It's gotten to the point where the only things that make us go 'what the fuck' are Isayama worrybaiting us into thinking he'll kill off a main character (which he doesn't, which is why I've learned to disdain the comparison between this and Game of Thrones) or throwing in some seriously gross shit (a panel in the newest chapter can only be considered 'Human Centipede-esc.') Hell, he gave the audience something that should have been a huge game changer in recent chapters... but everyone saw it coming.
At this point I'm surprised the story hasn't collapsed in on itself. Of course the reason is that it became so popular - Isayama used to be adamant that the story would end around volume 20 - and we're already at volume 15. Then again, he also said that this was intended to be 'thought-provoking and more of a mental trip' than anything else - and that he changed his ending, as he felt the audience wouldn't be okay with him killing off the main cast... then again, if everyone reacts so negatively to side-characters...
TL;DR: Aot/SNK is shitty in many many ways and yet I still follow it because of the characters.
And shipping. Do you know how much goddamn shipping is in this shit. It's half the damn manga.
