"Thats what I had planned to do..." Ayako said somewhat coldly, "I'm not stupid. I know how to survive."

"Well," Eugene said, throwing his hands up in mock defense. It was obvious he was being sarcastic. "Fuck you, then."

"I'm not a child... I know what its like to have to survive with little." she continued, "And I don't know about yours, but in my culture, we don't speak to women that way."

"Did I call you a kid? Did I imply in any way that you were incapable of living?" He countered. "In my culture, women fuck other men while their boyfriends are at war. Welcome to America."

"Hey!" The deacon stepped between them then. "One - language! Two, don't argue, because right now that's a stupid thing to do. Arguments escalate and people raise their voices and before you know it, that giant spider's busting through the stained glass windows and is eating our heads off! And three, we've got plenty of food down here in the basement. If everyone has packs, we can all load up before we leave tomorrow."

Nobody noticed thanks to the interplay of Eugene and Ayako and even Abe, but the Jake had left the building while they were arguing. He was heading out to see if there were any cars nearby that would help with travel. Armoring them up obviously wouldn't help, it hadn't stopped the creature from tearing through the armored car. So he was looking for something light and fast.
And mostly he was looking down streetways and up at rooftops to make certain nothing else was out there looking for him.

"You thought I wouldn't know how to ration my food. That means you think I don't know the basics of surviving. And... I'm sorry that happened to you. Not all women are like that though. You just happened to choose a bad one. "
She cringed when the deacon admonished her, "I... I'm sorry uhh... what should I call you?"

"What are you? Like... fu-... freaking twelve or something?" Eugene said, taking a cigarette and pinching it between his lips as he went about lighting it. "How am I supposed to know?"
"It's most women, actually." He said, rather depressed before he took a drag of his cigarette. He peeked around the room. "Where did that other guy go?"

"I turn 18 in two months," Ayako said crossing her arms and scolwing a bit, "And most women I know are loyal to their lovers. I've never had a boyfriend, but if I did I'd never do that."

"Look, if you make it out of this, I'll show up at your birthday? Can you drop it now?" Eugene warned, obviously angry. It was most likely on part because of the fact that they were in each-other's face right now, instead of focusing on the objective at hand. "Just drop it."
Walking over to the stairs, Eugene pulled his rifle free.
"Did anybody see that guy go up here?" He asked. "Where did he go?"

"Oh, great. He left. Poor guy's probably going to die out there. Or worse - lead the monsters back in here with us..." The deacon looked to Ayako then. "Well, if we ever return to this town, I'll probably be the only head of this church left, so I'll be called Reverend Robinson... but for now, I think you should just call me Daniel." He gave a small smile then.
Mona had moved, stealthily, towards one of the smaller windows, and was doing her best to peer outside into the night. It didn't work that well - luckily - but she was able to detect some motion.
The question was, was it the spider, or Jake?

Ayako pouted and scowled at Eugene for blowing her off, "I didn't see where the man went."
She noticed Mona looking out the window and asked, "Do you see anything?"

"I see... something..." she replied, her voice a whisper. "I'm not sure who or what it is..."

"I had to admit, I felt sorry for the gal. Jarhead was pulling no punches, as harmless as they came off to me, and the poor thing was taking it pretty personal. Came with the territory, I suppose; I'd only heard rumors of what the Japs 'round these parts had to go through when the war hit us, and none of 'em sounded all that peachy."
Abe clapped Eugene on the back with sympathetic camaraderie, as if he were an old friend, or drinking buddy. "I've been in that spot, friend. Two-timin' broads are a dime a dozen, but it's best that you keep on ramblin' if you want to make it through."
Abe raised a brow at the deacon - Daniel Robinson, as he'd said - and his frenetic antics. He took a quick drag from his cigarette again. "Slow your roll, Padre. For a man of faith, you're being awfully doom-and-gloom. If this sucker's flown the coop, he's flown the coop. Lets just hope that if he comes back, he comes back in one piece," he glanced to Mona for a moment, who was peering out the window. "And preferably without having attracted anything's interest.
"In the meantime, stayin' the night seems as good a plan as any. Thanks for the hospitality, Rev. Wish it had been under friendlier circumstances."

"Get your hand off me, Abe." Eugene warned, turning to look at the man and taking his hand by the wrist as he pulled it from his shoulder, glaring at him before he began to peek up the stairs. "Geeze, uhm..."
Taking a hold of his rifle, Eugene looked at the others.
"I'll go out and look for him." He said, looking at them all. "Keep the door locked. I'll knock three times to open the door. I'll knock four times if I have one of those things on my asshole."
Turning away, he moved up the stairs, keeping any, if at all, complaints out of his space as he began to push the door open.

"No... none of them were peachy at all, Honest Abe." Ayako said bitterly, "They took us from our homes after Pearl Harbor, had to relocate us because they thought we were a danger. We lost everything. And we weren't even going to harm anyone. So yeah in case you were curious, that is what happened."
Ayako looked up at Eugene as he went up the stairs, "Good luck," she said.

Jake had managed to make his way several blocks away, moving lightly. His pack weighed him down, but not nearly as much as he'd complained of. He stuck to the alley ways and the narrower streets, making a gamble that anything that would be traversing them would be closer to his size than something that could rend an armored car apart with its fingers.
Or whatever spiders had. Or whatever that thing was that it used to...
Jake put it out of his mind. No need to confuse himself thinking too hard. Game face. Had to get somewhere that he could secure transportation. Unfortunately most of this area had been cleared out by the evacuation. Infact, he'd be willing to bet that the only remaining vehicles would be the ones that broke down. Not exactly fast. At least not without a bit of work on them.
So back to the garage. He knew the place, and considered it safe. True, it was no bomb shelter, but it wasn't exactly a run down shack either. Half mile to go? It was getting dark...

The detective raised his hands before himself, in the universal sign language symbol for ' excuuuuse me, princess'. "Whoa there, hold your palominos, toots," he replied. "Beggin' your pardon, didn't mean nothin' by it. Besides, my fight in the war was on the Atlantic, not the Pacific."

"You stay safe." Mona warned Eugene as he left, his lips pursed and her features cross. This wasn't a good sign, none of it was.
