One of the most memorable quotes in Richard Adams' novel Watership Down. A children's book with an adult tone, it is an action/survival story about a group of rabbits that leave their old warren in search of a new place to call home and all the dangers they encounter along the way. Mixed in with the main plot are chapters detailing stories which offer an inside look into Lapine mythology, all prominently featuring the Trickster Hero El-ahrairah.
I noticed there wasn't a thread about it so I put one down, a place for fans of the book and its adaptations to rant, rave and/or discuss the story.

This book... this movie. Wow... I LOVE it... both version. I need to get the new edition that came out.
When *I* was 13, this was the book that my nose was stuck to in school. This is one of the reasons that kids would get huffy with me when I said I didn't like Twilight.
"But Twilight got me to read!" they would whine to my 30+ year old ass. "When I was 13, I was walking around with Watership Down stuck to my nose." was my reply. "The crap you call good literature is anything but. I've been reading books since I learned how to read, from Dr. Seuss, to comics, to chapter books."
I didn't read Harry Potter until I was in my 20's cause that was when the books came out. But I named a Gerbil after one of the female rabbits in this book, I named one of my lop's after a rabbit in this book. If I ever have rabbits again, the names will be coming from this story.
I own the movie, and have both this, and the tales book. I have yet to see the TV show. Great animation, lots of Nightmare fuel, and damn that song by Garfunkle makes me tear up.
Richard Adam's is a great writer, and if I ever go to the UK, I want to see the real Watership down.
