"Cowards." Kitter muttered under his breath, digging his blade into the ground as he stretched his once wounded arm out carefully, flexing the muscle before bringing it back in, picking his blade up. He looked at the 'Runt', now helping the other woman. "Bind her wrists."
"We need to find the Maiden." He continued, walking around in the darkness. "Something took her. Wasn't the bandits."
"M-... Maiden!" Miri called out, already hyperventilating, looking to be on the brink of tears. She ran her hands through her hair. "W-... We've failed her! This was our sacred duty and we failed her!"
Running around the edge of the camp, she continued to call out loudly, looking as if she wanted to run out into the darkness but too afraid of what may happen.
"You don't shut your mouth, I'll do it for you." He warned the girl, stepping over her. "Magic grabbed her. Torches, she couldn't have gone far."
Staggering, Miri chased off to her bag to gather her torch and get the main fire started again. It was a quick task, striking her flint and steel together with nervous hands until light returned to the camp once more. She started to light the torches, handing one to an disturbingly calm Kitter.
"Bind the girl's wrists and get ready to look for the Maiden." He commanded. "Pack the camp. Whispers in the darkness won't keep them at bay long with the promise of cunt and coin."

Vsti was forced to clap a hand over the Maidens mouth as they arrived near the shrouded tranquil pond. Soft moss covered the stones here, and the water moved lazily, yet still managed to be clear.
"Silence your screams." Vsti's rasping voice said, producing the jewel that identified one who had been sent on the quest to aid the Maiden. "We'll not want to bring them down on our heads again so easily."
With that, the dragonborn mage relaxed, feeling the effects of the casting catching up with the body. A weariness washed through the reptilian humanoid, making it an effort to remain standing.
"We have much to speak of." Vsti said. "But little enough time for it all. So pick what you believe the most important for us to start at. If it is your companions you worry for... look to the pool..."
The water rippled ever so gently as the scrying enchantment was cast, and a soft whispering could be heard from the burbling stream, as everyone's voices transferred.
"You don't shut your mouth, I'll do it for you." Kitter was warning the Miri. "Magic grabbed her. Torches, she couldn't have gone far." Miri staggered and went to her bag, gathering torches to get the main fire started again. The first light was passed to Kitter. "Bind the girl's wrists," He said, referring to the hostage that had been thrown into the dirt, "And get ready to look for the Maiden." Kitter commanded in a disturbingly calm tone. "Pack the camp. Whispers in the darkness won't keep them at bay long with the promise of cunt and coin."
"An interesting commander you have leading you." Vsti commented with one heavy lidded eye glancing from image to guest. "Like as not, someone will find us shortly, but we have a few moments at least. I apologize that there isn't any hot tea to share."

"Oh shit, the Maiden!" Seneca said.
"I'll go with them to try to find her. They probably need some magic to help. You just... I dunno stay with her." Sephora said, now holding her staff.
Seneca stared back at Kitter, "Why do I need to bind her? She's a victim!"

"Look at her, you fucking cunt." Kitter bellowed, gesturing towards the formerly 'captured' woman with his torch, inspecting her from a distance. He spat on the ground in disgust and turned towards the treeline, looking at the others. "Her hands were free, she is unhurt, her clothes are on and she is in good shape."
"She'd have a raw fucking cunt by now, you prick." He continued. "She went along with them. Tie her fucking hands and tie her to a fucking tree."
"W-... We gotta' go! We gotta' find her!" Miri exclaimed anxiously, disregarding the other woman as she gripped her torch, pacing nervously. "S-... She could be out there with someone else... o-or the Bandits. You know what they'll do to her, Paladin!"
"Calm the fuck down, you prick-eared slut." He chastised the girl, causing her to walk away from him slightly, but still too focused on the woman they devoted their lives to for this journey, looking like she's about to burst into tears. "We'll find her. She's out in the fucking forest and we'll find her. She wouldn't have gotten far."

"...Oh." Seneca felt a bit like an idiot.
"Hold her hands together, Seneca," Sephora said. He did so and she used her staff to tie a neat but tight knot around the girls wrists.

The girl didn't seem to make a move... until the chains were bound, in which case, she immediately disappeared.
In her place they'd find a small, pale lizard.
"...Oh, bugger," it hissed.
Lunath, by this time, was long gone, running out after the bandit leader, sword at the ready to apprehend a criminal.

"Oh fuck!" Seneca yelled, "Sephora get it before it goes away!"
Sephora quickly levitated the lizard, into the air with her staff, "So you're a changeling huh?"

It twisted around in the air, flopping over onto its back.
"Ugh, yes. Also, levitation doesn't really work as that big of a combatant against me, I could change to another thing. Lizards are just hard to get out of."

"Kill the Abomination." Kitter said casually, not even looking over as he passed his torch off to the skittish Elven girl, using a dirtied rag to clear the blood off his blade while he waited for the group to assemble. He grit his teeth as Lunath ran off. "We're not taking... it... with us."
"They're all liars and thieves." He continued, throwing his rag onto the ground as he smeared the intestinal contents of the Bandit he slaughtered from the blade. The body still lay near the fire, blood, gore, digested food and shit spilled onto the floor. "It'll just fuck us over the next chance it gets."
"Cut its throat and be done with it." Kitter mused, reclaiming his torch from the anxious Elven girl, who was too intent on focusing on the enclosing forest and the Maiden within to care about their newest companion. "You think you can handle that, Runt?"

"Now wait just a - minute!" The lizard grunted, flipping over and changing once again, this time into a human, crouching in the air with a knife held in front of him. "We changelings are not abominations, and I, good... persons... happen to be a victim of circumstance in this case!.... Mostly. I mean, I didn't want to be going around with those damn bandits, the idiotic bastards, but - they got me in a weak spot. You'll do good to understand. Bottles are not a fairy's friend. Especially not a fake fairy trying to make her way in this cold, hard world - I'm tangenting, I should stop."

"I'm not killing anyone because of what their species is, Kitter. Do you know how many times that sort of thing is directed toward us?" Seneca said.

"We take it with us, we waste our food, water, energy and potentially our lives transporting it to the nearest town governed by the law." Kitter remarked, inspecting his blade to make sure it was up to par in his intelligent eyes, running his hands along it affectionately. "Our race. Mm."
"And if we set it free, the fucking cunt will rejoin the Bandits. Killed by them, maybe." He continued, carrying the blade over one shoulder. "Kill it. Save us all the fucking hassle."

"Uhm, yoo-hoo! This 'thing' has a name and is still right in front of you?" The man rolled his eyes, rocking back to cross his arms and pout. "Why would I rejoin them? For one, they've up and gone any-who, and it's not as if I WANTED to be with them." He yawned, crossing his legs and looking around at them all. "But alas, go ahead! Try to kill a kidnapped bystander which, by the way, you've had a hand in kidnapping again, who could easily, by the way, help you gain supplies and money.... No, no, no, just go ahead and try to kill the person who can turn into a massive goddamn wolf if need be!"

"She has a good point. " Seneca said bluntly, "That sounds super useful." He turned back to the changeling, "But how do we know we can trust you? What incentive do you have to be loyal to us?"

"None, really," The changeling replied with a shrug, "Except for the fact that as a group, you'd all be easily capable of killing me. Plus, you all seem to have a purpose and a place to go, something I'd like to have... even if I don't know what it is."

Pinching the ridge of his nose, Kitter embedded his blade into soft ground before he marched over to the siblings and their latest companion. He took a few deep breaths and stared searchingly at their former prisoner, glaring at the creature.
"Your Kind's manifested destiny is to lie and deceive." Kitter remarked. "You expect us to take the fucking word of your Kind? You can play the fucking Mutt like a fiddle, can't you?"
Laughing, Kitter grit his teeth and got further into the face of the woman... man... thing, making sure that in the confines of her chains she felt very, very pressured and insecure. Also, if she was afraid and fearful for her life, that was an added bonus.
"I'm not some fucking errant boy." He continued, his hands draped over the girl's shoulders, gradually creeping further and further up until he had them around her throat. He didn't squeeze or anything, but they were there. "The next thing we know, you're standing over our corpses, morphed like me or one of the fucking mutts. You think your tricks are new?"

"Well, there's no way I'm going to exactly convince you," the man replied with a shrug, completely nonchalant about being creeped on. "Just realize that if I wanted to, I could fly away right now, or I could have turned into something and attacked you all already. Why bother with pleasantries if blood is what one wants?"

"Quite the blood thirsty one, that paladin." Vsti remarked to the Maiden as they watched events unfold from a safe distance away. "I wonder... what does this mean for the future of the races... after all, your companions are to be made of each of the races in power. The fact that I see no dwarf or drow..." Vsti studied the Maiden for reaction. "When I was young I transcribed an ancient tale of the Maiden's journey... how the race of the Nylbog refused the call because they were warring with the dwarves who happened to be that turns Maiden." Vsti's dragonborn face tried to look thoughtful. "I've never seen a nylbog, have you? Their race faded from the records, their civilization collapsed, and I'm pretty sure that the dwarves won the war."
"Which brings us to my appearance." Vsti held the jewel marking a companion of the Maiden. "The High Church was asked for a paladin when your quest became known. It was refused. The dragonborn are preparing for their jihad... I am an outcast from the High Church, once a monk, now just a wanderer with some stolen knowledge."

" Don't call him a mutt, you mutt." Sephora said, "If he's one then so are you."
"Seph please," Seneca said, "I don't want you getting hurt..." he turned back to Kitter, "She has a point though."

"Because that is the bane of your race, no? Pathological liars." Kitter continued, the tension around the man's throat getting tighter and tighter, albeit allowing the man the liberty to breathe still, not yet wanting the Changeling dead. "Spies, traitors and brigands. Your entire race exists for the sole purpose of subjugation. A racial complex to integrate. Your species wouldn't exist if it didn't have something to lie to."
"Sure, you could become say... a bear? Maybe even a wolf? A fucking immortal God-King, if you wanted to." He continued. "Immortal or incorporeal. Whatever the case, you wouldn't leave this camp alive. I would see to it. I'm an asshole, stubborn and arrogant, I wouldn't die without taking you with me first."
Pulling his hands away, gritting his teeth, he looked at the siblings.
"It remains in chains. Tight chains. Bound and gagged. Lest I find you turned to beckon this creature's calls with its poisonous tongue." He spat. "And if you listened, my dearest fucking Runts, you'd find I was calling either of you the mutt."
Laughing, he staggered off to reclaim his sword.

"...Well that guy's a major douche, isn't he?" Nialleen asked of the duo, rocking forward to be on his stomach and leaning towards them, head resting on his fist. It seemed he was quite comfortable in the air. "Why do any of you keep him around when he's a racist bigot that insults you two as well as anyone else that comes in, apparently?"

Vsti was sitting in a meditative stance, looking at the pool and giving the Maiden freedom to roam about the clearing. Or leave, if she wanted to take her chances.
"Did they really?" Vsti asked. "One of the elves tried to get rid of him? And the larger, stronger, elf failed? I am saddened. The legends I had read, when they thought I was simply mindlessly transcribing, spoke of each companion being one of honor... not being at each others throats. I suppose you see now why I did not join your group. Perhaps it is lucky I found this gem after it had been disposed of along with the diplomatic team informing us of your second coming... but even disgraced as I am, I'll not work with those abusive. It is why I am banished, and I see no need to subject myself to it twice."
The dragonborn studied the Maiden. "Tell me, as leader of this group, how will you resolve such an issue?"

Aleyn had been taken quite a bit away from the party's camp. The elvish maiden looked about her surroundings, still in a panic. Magic wasn't something she was quite familiar with, exactly, much less on this level. She shot a quick glance at her 'captor', and then a glance at the pond, before taking a better look at what was around them. The maiden would, at the very least, recognize they were almost dead center of the forest. Evergreen trees surrounded the two, as did small openings that showed at least two campfires in the distance- one in north, and the other in the west. "Did they really?" Vsti asked, the words snapping the Maiden's attention back to reality. Listening carefully, the maiden nodded. The dragonborn studied the Maiden. "Tell me, as leader of this group, how will you resolve such an issue?" "I'm... not entirely sure." She admitted with a sigh. "I'm sure he has fine reason to be such an... abrasive sort, and it's entirely possible that he's not nearly as much usually..." If one thing was revealed from this it was that the girl, at the very least, lived up to the concept of the Maiden being naive.

"Perhaps you are right." Vsti tilted a reptilian head to the side in a display of curiousness. "I've not met many human paladins. I only judge by the paladins of my people. Most of them are... abrasive sorts as well. Perhaps it's in the training? Or perhaps the position draws those of a certain personality to it?"
Vsti shrugged and watched the group a little more, quite curious to see how they would react to having lost the Maiden, particularly with the added distraction of the bandits and the changeling. The dragonborn seemed to be judging them, and thus far had at least found Kitter lacking in 'heroic camaraderie' or whatever was being judged.
Then another question came up. "Were a dwarf or drow or even changeling to offer to join your party Maiden, would you even accept them now?"

"Were a dwarf or drow or even changeling to offer to join your party Maiden, would you even accept them now?" "Well, I do remember reading that the training is particularly grueling," Aleyn nodded in reply. It was a rather common side effect that those who managed to endure more than a few weeks of it- much less complete the months of training- often came out more bitter than before. Even so, the position of power frequently held by paladins attracted more than a few abrasives even before the training. "It's likely a result of it." The next question took the maiden by surprise. Something like that never even occurred to the girl. "Well," She replied, carefully considering her options. "I believe I would, but I can't say for certain." Lunath, by this time, was long gone, running out after the bandit leader, sword at the ready to apprehend a criminal. Lunath would find himself running through the forest, the bandit leader becoming farther and farther away as the knight's armor clattered loudly and slowed him down. The clattering drew notice of arrow fire, as Lunath saw the soft ping of an arrow making a nick in his armor. The thieves were clever- they didn't completely take an offense against the camp directly, and didn't leave the rest of their members in their own camp. Another arrow shot- this time hitting the armor of his left shoulder. Yet another shot and struck the Elven knight's armor, hitting the left elbow joint. At least three thieves were hiding. Perhaps more. The question was, however- where?

Lunath stopped, crouching slightly, sword and shield both up and at the ready. The arrows struck their marks, clanging off of his armor easily. A few calculations and -
With one quick flourish, his shield was thrust up into a section of the trees, hoping to knock his first assailant from their branches. Should he succeed, his sword was at the ready and thirsty for whatever bloodshed might be needed on this night.

Listening carefully at the very edge of the light from the camp, Kitter heard the distinct ruffling from the assembled group. He assumed it to be one of the Runts or the Changeling taking off whatever bindings it hadn't already escaped from.
Turning on a heel, he instead saw that in their place was the frail young figure of Miri, currently using a sharp metal blade to tear away whatever scraps of rope remained. He marched over to her, going to open his mouth and was promptly slapped by the elf girl.
Her hand stinging, her entire body shaking, she stared at the Paladin with tears in her eyes, more so now that she had personally insulted the man.
"Girl, I am not above hurting a woma-" Kitter started, but the scowl as the girl's adorable features soured, attempting to appear angry but was almost comical in nature. He instead turned to smile. "You want us all to die because this thing kills us?"
"Enough, Kitter!" Miri suddenly snapped, discarding the blade. She threw the ropes away into the fire. "The Maiden is out there alone, scared and maybe even hurt! We cannot stand here and argue!"
"I know that, girl." He insisted, bringing his hand up around her neck. She pulled away quickly before he clamped her throat to begin his routine of threats and hatred. "Smart and quick, aren't you?"
"A-... as the only Cleric of the Church of the White Queen in this assembly, I-... I am your superior..." She spat, attempting to sound stern and serious. Her intelligent features smoothed over once she realized that Kitter was smiling, standing up straight once more. "And... as your superior, I say we let the Changeling go free!"
Opening his mouth, Kitter instead turned to hysterical laughter and walked off to reclaim his blade, storming off into the forest. You could still hear his laughter, even from far away.
Shaking, she turned to face the Changeling.
"I-... I don't care what you did... but out there is a very young girl who is very new to this world. She is alone, scared and maybe even hurt." She said, her tear-filled intelligent eyes staring into the very soul of the Changeling. She knew how to tug at heartstrings. "Please, you know how to change your form at will. Something... something that could fly or run fast, please. We have to find her, I need to find her."
