Reaper Man's my favorite stand-alone book in the Discworld Series...that I've read thus far.

The discussion boards are mostly limited to one thread per book/series.

TerryP is awesome. I, too, completely adore Death. But Susan Sto-Helit, Angua, Vimes, the Archchancellor, Vetinari.... dammit, I may as well just name all the characters, because they're all fabulous. Although my favourite 'mini-series' has to be the Watch books.

My favorite character has got to be Moist. Although Death is only a hair below. I really need to catch up on the series, though. I've only read like 12 of his books. >.>
Although I heard recently that Terry Pratchett has Alzheimer's, which is one of the saddest things I've learned...

One of my favorite authors (if not the favorite). And I've heard from somwhere that he has said (rearding his alzheimers) that the day he will no longer be able to write he will consider suicide Don't know if it is true though...
But on a less depressing note: I think my favorite series is The Watch... or Death... or Moist... ehm I really can't decide, all of his books are so good.

I've only started reading Discworld recently (Guards! Guards! and Men At Arms to be exact), and I think I'm already hooked (long hours at the bookstore deciding what to buy D:).
I gotta say, my fave characters so far are basically the Night Watch guys.

Why did I not find this thread sooner. My favorite character has got to be Granny Weatherwax simply for this quote from Lords and Ladies: Though to be fair I also adore Death, Rincewind, and Tiffany Aching. As for if I have a favorite book of the Discworld series, I don't. I try and re-read a good chunk of them every year. I've even begun to read Hogfather around Chirstmas time ever since I first read it back in '00. And the live action film done by the BBC, is amazing! Teatime scared the crap out of me by just...being there.

Terry Pratchett is proof that it is indeed possible that too much awesome can exist without exploding. I'm convinced that he can bend laws of physics with sheer mind-forcery.
My absolute favourite character is Vetinari but Moist, Death and Sally are all close seconds. But I can't say there's even one character I dislike. How does he do it?

Simple. Terry Pratchett is JUST THAT AWESOME.
Agreed with the City Watch love. Sadly, the first book in that set I read was Thud!, not too long after it came out. Kinda spoilerific. Ah, well. It's a great serieslet, and the next book's gonna be a Watch book (probably the last Watch book, sadly...). So, favorite characters? Vimes, Death, Susan, Moist, the Librarian, Tiffany, Granny Weatherwax, Polly/Ozzer, and Om and Brutha, I think. In something vaguely resembling that order. Funny thing is, I just got a Nook so my roommate won't murder me for bringing an entire 30-some book series to college this fall... now I have to decide which ones to re-buy first. My guess for top five, then? 1. Night Watch (My all-time favorite, or close to it) 2. Small Gods (Favorite standalone, definitely) 3. Hogfather & Thud! (tie) 4. Making Money 5. Thief of Time

SO. THREAD REVIVAL TIME. Favorite Discworld species? Personally, I'm quite fond of the dwarves, though the trolls and Nac Mac Feegle are pretty cool too. I like trying to figure out how exactly to explain the role of gender in dwarf society to people who have never read any Discworld books. It's actually quite entertaining and I suggest you try it on anyone who you want to never have speak to you again. Best results come if you spring it on them without warning and while a much more entertaining activity is nearby--in the middle of a good movie, for example, or at a bowling alley.
