She really is a twihard? Why does that not surprise me? I hope her bad taste in books doesn't rub off on you..No worries I'm extremely picky on what I like. While I do have my guilty pleasure reading, I can pick out and annalyze what is crappy in a book. High five on that one! Cause I am exactly alike in what I like too and I can pick out the crappy or nonsensical things as well.

There's somethings I like that I know are bad, i.e. Generation Dead series, but I like them anyways. However, it doesn't mean I'm going to go crazy over them if someone doesn't like them. In my experience, most HoN and Twilight fangirls tend to forget that other people may not like books that 1) glorify stupid teenage relationships, 2) have vampires, 3) may not like YA, and 4) have love triangles in them. I haven't met any sane fans of either series, offline or online, who accept other people's opinions.

She actually used "in my opinion", and mentioned how all, even hate, comments were welcome. O.o

^ That's kind of shocking and rare. Most fangirls and fans I've met and know refuse to think that people dislike things. I've met few people who are sane about things they like. Then again, it might be the college I go to.

It's mostly the internet where I find these things, since it's overpopulated by dumbasses and trolls mostly.
In real life, people aren't that bad.
I know I don't get on people's cases if they don't like something. Hell, I get on my own cases with the stuff I do like! I can usually tell you the flaws I found in the Yu Yu Hakusho anime or Yu-gi-oh! I'll even complain about, Monster, of all things (though my only complaint is that the story takes way too long than it should)

Lady Phoenix, that sounds really cool. It's hard to find reasonable people, especially on the internet. It's good that you did.

Alright, reading through this right now.
This is the worst thing I have read.
And that includes the erotic short story re-telling of Snow White with social commentary that I've read.

Can't believe nobody's yet pointed out the creepiest thing ever - all these sex scenes and the blowjob scene in pretty much the first few chapters of the first book etc. THIS IS A MOTHER/DAUGHTER WRITING TEAM. I'd die if something like that was even mentioned in front of my mum, let alone discuss it and write a book about it OH GOD *cringe*

...I really want to know how a mother/daughter team are comfortable with writing softcore (well almost) porn in their books.
...-shudder-

P.C. Cast is a romance writer, so that explains the softcore porn leanings.
I imagine her daughter only gave input as far as "Oh yeah, that is totally how teens act!!" because otherwise, you can really tell that an older woman who is largely out of touch with popculture and youth in general is writing this.

I made the mistake of reading one of the Cast's "romance" novels and I almost threw up. I hated it and it really turned me off romance novels, even thought the only reason I ever read romance novels was to make fun of the sex scenes.

Funny thing, this woman is a teacher. If anything, she should be MORE in touch with the youth than her daughter, because she sees hundreds of different teens every day. Guys, I didn't think it was possible, but it happened. Zo-ho became an even bigger mary-sue. Apparently, she's not just favoured by the godess, given all the powers of the elements, and pronounced high priestess of the vampires beofre she's even twenty. No, that's not nearly enough. She's reincarnated from some clay doll who was Kalona's lover. That...just...I...even. This series is getting worse and worse. Zoey just gets more love interests as time goes on, and she never has to decide between them. What kind of lesson is that to teach girls? And after everything that's happened, nobody seems to have realized Nefert is fucking evil!

There are gonna be like 12 books right? Does anyone else think this would be better/could be condensed down to at least 3 or 4?

^ Yeah, they should have been condensed. I get having a longer series if there's an actual epic (for lack of a better word) storyline, like Harry Potter or any other series with an overarching plot, but from what I remember, this is just a day-to-day poor-Zoey mindfuck with no sensible timeline.

I know a crapload of teachers and my mother is one. If you think for one second that a teacher is 'in touch' by virtue of being in contact with young people daily, holy God you are in for disappointment.
That said, I tried reading Marked.
I gave that shit up.

I love House of Night. It's so bad and hilarious to read, though I've only read the first one. By the way, why the hell did Zoey HAVE to take over the evil-darkness-girls-something-something-I-forgot-how-it's-called club? Sure, Aphrodite was gonna take over the school, but Nyx would've probably stopped her before that, no? Also, why is the book only tells about, like, 3 or 4 days and it's about 300 pages? HP was an entire year in 300 pages. I'm just not following why did it go so slowly.

Exactly and with HP it was 7 books for 7 years at school. At first I thought HON were going for that but they can't have 12 school years? And then the plot seemed to stop from them "growing up" and moving through school etc and it's all just stuck in the same time/place now (if that makes sense? I only read up to book 6 or 7) These books seem to drag on and on, not moving the plot along at all.

^ I agree, the problem is that they seemed to insist on almost every day being told. As a result, one year has already spanned what? Seven books? With more on the way? I bought this book two years ago and there's a quote that comes to mind, admittedly over telling you not to let your characters' sexual desires override their other qualities, but it sums the point up. 'The reader also knows that everyone poos. But if the first thing the character does is poo in front of the reader, they will be known as the Pooing character forevermore.' In any case, from what I've read, some ideas emerged from a writing class PC Cast runs, so you could argue that it's a case of too many cooks. No, readers don't expect everyday to be exciting or a battlefield. However, I don't want to read more than a couple of lines about part of horse-riding classes being about learning how to muck out a stable, even if the horse becomes significant to the plot later.

I love the timeline in these books. Each book takes place over a few days? Yeah, that could definitely be condensed into a few books, especially since besides the ends of the books, nothing really happens. But the pop culture references are just lulzy. Going to see 300 in theaters in the same year that Twitter became popular and Glee came out? Fail!

Yeah. It's pretty much that bad. I think the time between book 1 and book 2 was like a few months, and I'm not sure about the second and third book, but I'm sure it wasn't very long, but the time between all the other books is a matter of minutes/hours/few days.

And I think the book started in like... 2007? Around there? Yeah, they're fucking with the timeline big time. It's just showing they want to appeal to teenagers in every aspect, so they leech off the biggest new trends and be all "Lookie here! It's this big new thing everyone likes!" to hope it gains viewers. But sadly anyone with half a brain will realize they have a screwy timeline, shake their head, and put the book back down.
This series will be done for in no time.

That's a big no no in any media, having too many pop culture references. Doesn't that writer know that's how a book becomes dated? Even Smeyer knew this!

I hate this series so bad it makes my skin crawl. Endless pop culture references, endless stereotypes worn out like an OCD narcoleptic's snuggy, the main character is a shallow, slutty brainless marysue, who doesn't even have the basic human dignity to figure out who she IS in order to decide which man best suits her (and there are dozens who are all as hot as models). Hell, even Bella could do that much, even if it was a lousy choice. The constant mention of brown pop (WHAT KIND OF BROWN POP YOU *BLEEP* THERE'S MORE THAN ONE AND YOU OBVIOUSLY DON'T CARE ABOUT PRODUCT PLACEMENT SINCE YOU MENTION EVERYTHING-POP CULTURE!!!) As stated before, NOTHING HAPPENS. Seriously, if you cut out all the circular arguments/squabbles between friends who use repetative insults that no real person would even use, and all the scenes with people creaming themselves so bad the House of Night should just be one big creamery (ew), you'd be left with a thirty page book, tops. I could rant about this forever but I think I might have a heart attack. The only reason I hate Twilight more is because of the whole child grooming thing. Really, it's that bad.

You know what really annoys me about the series? (Well actually, theres a lot of things but this is the one that's annoying me most right now.) Zo-ho being High fucking Priestess.
First, she didn't get the job by proving herself to be a good leader or a wise person. She got it because that tattoo on her head is filled in, and she has a bunch of useless powers. That's a good lesson - being a spiritual leader isn't about being a good example to other people, it's who's the godess' favourite.
Second, Zoey is incredibly young. She's what, eighteen? And having all this responsibility heaped on her. She hasn't finished school yet, or gone through any training, yet she's already got such a high position. Why does anyone think this is a good idea? These vampires (as far as I recall) live for hundreds of years, it wouldn't hurt to give the position to someone else while Zoey gets some well needed maturity.
