We do a yearly pantomime, if that counts.
This year, it's a very loose version of Aladdin. I'm the Genie. >D

We did Fiddler on the Roof. Ours was, apparently, one of the best that many people have seen. For winter, they're writing their own play on women's issues. In the spring, we're doing the non-Disney version of The Jungle Book.

This semester my college put on two plays: Noises-Off, and Medea. To say the least, they were both epically epic.
Next semester I think they're doing two more, and one of them is supposed to be Grease.

We just did Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
We sold out the last two shows and had to set up extra chairs because of walk-ins. Both had standing ovations. And the drama teacher has said that, without a doubt, if we ran more shows, they'd all be sold out as well.
FUCK YEAH

Last year we did Chicago as our spring musical, and it was really good. This year we're doing Cats, but I'm not sure if it's gonna be as well-received as Chicago was.

This year our musical was Urinetown and I thought the cast did a good job (even though people were complaning because it isn't as well known as Cats which another school in our district did ) For our winter play we are doing Noises Off which I wanted to try out for but wasn't able to because of issues.

This year, our musical is Thoroughly Modern Millie, and the play was The Diary of Anne Frank. I wasn't in either of them. The cast of Diary of Anne Frank was great, and I'm sure that Thoroughly Modern Millie will be great other than Millie's (who is the choir director's daughter, and the choir director also directs the musical) performance.

My school did this version of Oliver called Olivia.
I designed all the sets and helped paint them, it was so much work I spent a week off from lessons just painting all day, I also helped on the two days it was shown moving stuff and changing the backdrop. I was so exhausted by the time Sunday came.

The only school musical I ever did was Into The Woods and I played Cinderella's father. It was fun, I guess.

We did "A Christmas Carol" (that went to state finals with two other schools) and I was part of cast and crew for that one. EDIT: What makes our production super special awesome is that it's living black and white. The whole thing is in black and white - the set, the props, the costumes, and even the actors. It's pretty legit. We had red things at the end. Scrooge had a red coat and a red tophat. We got a standing ovation at Conference.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't notice this sooner, but I have been in many plays throughout high school and next week I will be in Peter Pan as Mr. Smee. It's a really, really fun part and the Captain Hook I am working with is amazing! He may seem like a dork in real life, but on stage... he is amazing...
I also been in Lion Witch and the Wardrobe as the White Witch, Rhonda Allen who is pretty much the main girl's rival in Our Miss Brooks, and the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz...
All of my play experiences have been really amazing and whenever I perform, I feel like I can forget about all my worries and just become another character and enter a new world. It's such an amazing feeling.

That is super special awesome. Wish I could've seen it--that whole concept (black and white IRL) just intrigues me to no end.
Let's see, what have I been in? When I was about 13, my mom enrolled my sister and I in CMT (Children's Musical Theatre); the older group was doing Grease, and the younger group was doing an original production that basically boiled down to a '50s rock-n-roll revue. The younger group's age ranged from approximately 5 to 13 or 14; there was a group of 5-year-olds who came in at one point in the show and did Rockin' Robin, which was just fucking adorable.
I chose to be in the younger group because 13 was right on the cusp of the age division, and I knew I wasn't a good enough dancer to do Grease (although I say this after having seen the previous session's older group do 42nd Street, which involves a hell of a lot more fancy footwork). Also, I find Grease incredibly annoying. But I digress.
I was also the Sheep in my middle school's production of Charlotte's Web in eighth grade. Then I kind of retired from the stage, as it were, mostly because my little sister started her dramatic career at that point; the next time I was in any kind of production was my second semester of college (last spring), when I was in the Vagina Monologues.
It hardly counts, because the guidelines for how you can stage the VagMons are so exacting that it allows for very little creativity on the director's part, but I thought I did a good job despite losing my voice on opening night and having to try my hardest not to croak through the other two performances (thanks, honey and Dayquil!). I did "Because He Liked To Look At It," for anyone familiar with the show.
I'm glad I did the Vagina Monologues, and I intend to go to at least one performance every year that I'm able because it's for a cause I support (ending violence against girls and women, sometimes specifically girls and women in a particular country, this year it was Haiti), but I don't think I'll perform in it again, not for a while at least. Get 20 girls in a room and it's not long before the claws come out.

Well, a little update on my Peter Pan play, I got my costume done for Smee and my director is awesome... There were these girls who requested we play Justin Bieber for curtain call (those rabid freshmen) and half of us including the guys were like "Please no, please no, please no" so he listened to it and danced like a food and said "No..."
Seriously, what a relief... Justin Bieber... in my Peter Pan? Come on people! I can thank my lucky stars that, that didn't happen. Dress rehearsal tomorrow... Still need glasses for Smee though...
Also, the pirates really need to work together... I hate it when I fee like I am trying to let my heart out and everyone else is goofing off and missing their cues. These people have so much potential! I mean, me and Captain Hook can't do all the work around here!

My school can't have a production this year due to quakes from both this year and last year, but before last year's quake they did West Side Story.

Right now my school is doing Mini Off Broadway One Acts. I'm in the Repunzel Uncut one as Townperson 2 and I only have about 15 lines but the other "townperson" and I get to do alot of action. I'm also in the improv group that will be performing between one acts. I'm pretty sure that the only reason I made the improv group, however, is because I can do accents somewhat.

Hey, the right voice can take an improv sketch from "mildly funny" to "fucking hilarious," theginger. Be proud of your talent.

How many of you know about a short play called "The Secret Life of Girls"? It's a short play (about an hour) that deals with premature maturity, self-destructive behaviours, and bullying among the harsh world of middle school girls.
AND IT'S INSANE. I thought it was gonna be kinda cheesy, but someone had a script they let me read backstage during one of our shows and it was.... pretty good, actually. It doesn't have that cheesiness a lot of shows seem to (well, the ones I saw as a middle schooler). It doesn't attempt to grab the audience with schlock. It just tells a story about middle school girls that holds you by the throat and doesn't let go. It makes me genuinely uncomfortable to read some of these lines. Partly because the actresses are really nice people, and partly because these all seem to be conversations lifted out of life. It doesn't come off as fake.
We're performing it for one middle school in our school district. Apparently bullying is something counsellors deal with since day one of every school year. @_@ I never realised how things were until this.

That's the case with most improv troupes. I'm kinda jealous; improv is a lot of fun but I don't have the time/resources to join or start my own troupe. So I just go to Random Acts of Insanity shows and live vicariously through them. xD

We have three plays a year and one musical. Unfortunately we have the worst hipster director in the world in charge of the theater department. She may have gotten a degree in theater but she still doesn't know how to act or direct.
FORTUNATELY the musicals are pretty much run by the choir director. This year was Singing In the Rain and last year was Music Man. They were a little too...dusty...for my taste...but the singing and dancing was awesome! Yay choir director!

Your tears don't even make up for one costume selection she's made... But maybe i'm just bitter because she hates me therefore i can't even stand trying out for plays anymore. She's in her twenties and spends most of her time trying to relive her high school days, but as queen bee this time (she was "uncool" back then, so she power struggles with people like the ones who didn't like her back then...which i guess is me). I used to feel bad for her...until i saw she made kids embarass themselves on stage Plus she treats the stage crew like crap :/ that's the very worst thing.

What selection did she make? I might regret knowing, but now I'm curious.
Wow. Nothing like living the past. I do fear for the future of your theatre department, though. Theatre is a powerful tool and I hate to see it misused.
@_@ You never treat the crew badly. In fact, I tend to treat the crew a little bit better than the cast. > > I fear the wrath of the techies.
