It also would have made the books not as popular. I mean, who wants to say they read a book called "Forks" that's NOT about cutlery?

According to amazon.com, Eclipse will be on sale on Sat, December 4th. There has been little to no fanfare about this release, with everyone still talking about how awesomely well HP7 is doing. I wouldn't even know it was coming out so soon if I wasn't on a movie site reading reviews, and noticed a sidebar advert with the Eclipse DVD cover on it.

There are Eclipse posters everywhere at our mall!
I know when it's coming out only because it's been unavoidable for weeks.
I'm sick of Edward or Jacob staring moodily at me every time I shop.

Oh well see, I don't go to the mall, that's probably why I haven't noticed anything. Even with the commercials, I haven't seen any for the DVD release.

It also may not be that way everywhere. I live in Northern Canada; not much daylight this time of year, not a huge selection of things to do in the winter darkness. A DVD may in fact be something to get excited about.
Sometimes the level of interest in things like this is higher here than in other places. I feel like Twilight is still more popular here than elsewhere, too.

^ Me, too. I especially agree with you on the Vanessa Carlton song, as "Twilight" happens to be one of my favorites on her Be Not Nobody album. Ditto. I love that song so much, and a bunch of Twitards on my hall ruined it for me. I'll listen to that song when I'm home or away from school so I can have peace.

Isabella is no longer the top baby girl name. Sophia knocked Bella out of the #1 position to #2.
Was there any doubt?

At least as annoying to me as the outright idiocies of Twilight are ideas that actually could have been good in more skilled hands, but Meyer stomps them into the ground.
For example, Bella's shielding power. If you think of it on its own terms out of context, it actually makes a lot of sense: a person who already has the power to shield herself could learn to expand that shield outward and and protect others too. That could make for some neat development as she figures out how to use it.
The problem is, by the time that plot point comes to prominence, it feels like an asspull because Bella has not spent any significant time developing the power, and up till that point no one had seemed very interested in exploring the nature of her mental protection.
If it had been set up all along, it could have been a good and logical development, but by Book Four it's too late to introduce something like that with no build up. It didn't have to be an asspull, but it was because it feels tacked on rather than organic to the ongoing story.
That's one thing that annoys me about Twilight. Not all the ideas are bad, but even the good ideas suffer from Meyer's hamfisted writing.

I don't know what twisted urge made me do it, but I was browsing around my old files and found Breaking Canon PDF, and ended up reading some paragraphs. I came across something that made me want to puke and then commit some violent act. Let me share one gem of a line:
Seemed like maybe getting your choices taken away from you wasn't the very worst thing in the world. Maybe feeling like this was the very worst thing in the world. - Breaking Dawn, chapter 17.
So, I am supposed to think that becoming a slave to another person, getting all your choices and your freedom taken away from you is not that bad? I'm supposed to think that feeling angst for getting rejected by the person you love is "the very worst thing in the world".
I'm disgusted. I want to slap Meyer and kick her ass to the moon and back. This sheltered little moron seriously thinks that not getting your perfect romance is worse than not being able and having the right to speak up your mind and live freely in the way you want to! I'm sure that any person that has to live under oppression every day would appreciate that statement! That shit - people not being able to make their own choices - still happens in this world and it's not funny or okay to imply that it's actually something good! *stomps out in RAEG*

I'm going to want to slap myself every time I listen to it now, wondering, "Why the hell did I do something so stupid?!".

So an excerpt from Twilight was on the tone assessment in my English class.
Seriously, it was the one where Bella whined about Forks and how she made her dad vacation with her in California.
THE TONE IS WHINY, BUT THAT CHOICE IS NOT ON THERE.

THE TONE IS WHINY, BUT THAT CHOICE IS NOT ON THERE. I hate that part so much! I moved halfway across the country when I was Bella's age (including a major climate shift from warm to cold,) and it wasn't the easiest thing ever, but I wasn't so damn whiny about it even in my head. I think I find it even more grating because I have experienced it and it still seems very overblown how sorry she feels for herself.

It's when I read about TEACHERS using their fangirl side to present a biased assignment/lecture concerning anything in pop culture to attempt to brainwash their students that really cements my decision to homeschool my kids. That was a very long and clumsy sentence and I'm too tired to care, mmkay?

I'm glad my old freshmen teacher is a To Kill a Mockingbird fangirl and not a Twilight one.
Anyways, another teacher sometimes defends twilight, but in reality, she's one of the most interesting people I've had the chance to be taught by. Anyways, my sister viciously defends the books. Though, I'm getting her into reading books like Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings, but the effects aren't really working seeing as she didn't like the Giver, interpreting the ending wrongly, and likes "Fallen".
I feel a face palm coming. It's hard being the tome master of the family. It really is. I go into the living room everyday and shudder whenever I see that god damn eclipse movie my mother recently bought. I keep trying to feed her more good book series, like the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, but now she says she wants to read Eragon next. I read and liked Eragon when I was younger but I dunno what I'd think with a more mature perspective now...

I don't know if you guys know this, but for this past Fall 2010 semester, there was an entire course about Twilight that was taught at California State University. The class itself is called "Twilight: The Text and the Fandom.", and here's what it says on The Examiner's website about the course: I clicked through the professor's website, and there are many interesting topics regarding Twilight and pop culture, Twilight and social class, gender, the media, etc. It doesn't seem any different from the topics already being discussed in this forum, and some of the observations made by the students taking that class have already been made to a certain degree by some members of TwilightSucks, such as - "From a psychological perspective, Bella fears abandonment and is co-dependent, Charlie seems borderline depressed, Edward has self-esteem issues"
- "The saga functions as a modern fairy tale that teaches abstinence, that “true love” promises a happy ending, that males are the protectors, that beauty/body image are important, that wealth brings happiness"
- The message of the saga is “You can have a happily ever after as long as you transform, get married, are white, and marry into the upper class”
Regarding the "abstinence porn" topic, here's a post written by the professor on PETA's hypocrisy on exploiting animals for fashion while exploiting women's bodies to further their cause: seducedbytwilight.wordpress.com/2009/11/10/twilights-abstinence-porn-morphs-into-activist-porn-re-christian-serratos-nude-peta-ad/I recommend reading through some of the articles for further analysis and discussions.

I'm not one to agree with giving Twilight any more credit than it deserves by having an actual course on it, but it seems to really delve into the problems many of us have with it.

I'm in a special program where we study philosophy instead of the general texts (no Shakespeare! ), but there are some things we have to do along with the general classes, such as this silly tone assessment. And my teacher did not write it. What really bothered me was that the Wizard of Oz, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and even the Ramayana (a classical Indian text) was on the assessment. And then Twilight. Way to go, school.

So I'm kinda shamefully addicted to The Vampire Diaries TV show. At first I was worried that it was just Twilight: The TV show but it's so much more awesome. They actually follow vampire lore (can't walk in the sun unless you have a rare enchanted ring, can't come into a house unless invited, must drink blood and while you can survive on animal blood it makes you weaker) and best of all, Elena is a kickass character and Nina Dobrev is fabulous. So long as you don't put a picture of the heroine, the vampire boyfriend and the werewolf against a picture of Bella, Edward and Jacob we're good. So, I was watching the episode last night where Tyler accidentally kills Sarah and triggers the werewolf curse and trying to explain it to my sister who's only watched bits and pieces of the show. I tell her that the character doesn't want to be a werewolf, that it's a curse and she asks why he wouldn't want to be a werewolf. I kinda looked at her and was like "because then once a month he losses all control of himself and could kill someone." To which she responded, "Oh, they aren't like the werewolves in Twilight?" I managed to not strangle her. I deserve a medal. Anyway, I told her that he was a real werewolf and to think of Remus Lupin not Jacob Black. Luckily she's a Harry Potter fan and only a casual Twilight reader so it got through to her. But still: her first association with werewolves was Jacob Fucking Black! Who now that I think about it has abilities that far closer mirror Sirius Black's animagus than Lupin's lycanthropy.

Ugh. Yeah some fans keep comparing the two, and a few have claimed that L.J Smith and the CW copied Stephanie Meyer. Lol, what?
L.J Smith published Vampire Diaries over a decade ago. In fact, if I remember correctly, it was published in 1991, when I was a baby. Sure, she's getting them republished as adaptations, combining volumes together with new covers, but that's all. I'm tired of hearing fans going "She copied off Meyer!"
Yeah, because Meyer's "vampires" so follow the vampire lore
I like L.J Smith's series much more, I grew up with those books. I see the Diary vampires as more realistic than the meyerpixies in both the books and in the show. I mean, at first I was iffy about the changes they made in the adaptation, but I enjoy the show, remember not to compare it. I like some of the characters more now.
I also wish fans would stop comparing werewolves to Meyer's "pack". They're not werewolves, in lore standards or even in her series. They're shape-shifters, and not very logical ones. I don't get the shape-shifter gene passing or imprinting or vampire sensery crap. -.-
