Anybody like it? I enjoyed this book very much, loved seeing the Gollum-Bilbo scene and how Bilbo got the ring and Mirkwood. A bonus for me, was Smaug.
Anyway, discuss.

I think I actually preferred the Hobbit to the main Trilogy... /shot Because the Hobbit was interesting all the way through, whereas there were many points in the main story (particularly Sam and Frodo's bit once they'd split up) which I found so difficult to keep reading through, because I found them so uninteresting.

Agree with you on the Sam and Frodo parts, as much as I like the Triology there were parts in which there were kinda boring.
What did you think of the way the dwarves scaped?

^I'm at the part where they escaped the wood-elves and are at the port city. I'm kind of having trouble getting further, but that happens with me and Tolkien.

^It'll get better, promise!
Btw: Hugo Weaving has been confirmed for the movie to reprise his role as Elrond and Lee Pace has signed for Thranduil.

I loved the book (all three times I read it). I truly can't wait to see how the movie turns out!

I love it. I'd like to read it again, but at the moment my copy is in the hands of my fiance; I told him he should read it, and he's a very slow reader. XD
I found it easier to get into than Rings; there's a very slow bit at the beginning of Fellowship which is very hard going to get thru. I can see a lot of less determined readers giving up at that part and renting the movie instead.

I've been re-reading it for fun (and in prep for the movie) and can I admit that one of the reasons why I love the book is because there's a dragon?
In movie related news Orlando Bloom will return as Legolas... did I miss him on the book? And Evangeline Lily signed to play an elf.

I assume people has already seen Lee Pace as Thranduil, yes? Have to give him credit, he looks fierce.

I've been giving some thought to this, but anyone else think that Thranduil's quote about Bilbo and the Mithril armor (sorry forgot the actual word) is a shot to the Sons of Fëanor? I mean, it's "You are more worthy to wear it that many elven princes", imo is a up yours to the Noldors in general and Sons of Fëanor in specific. Thoughts?
