(This is Pichu's idea, by the way. Thank/Credit her for the thread.)
That's right, an Original Character Tournament right here on TS! Pick a character (or construct a new one, either one), give them their backstory of entering and fight like their lives depend on it! ...Unless they DO depend on it, in which case just fight.
If an existing character is already familiar with everyone here, you might not need a bio for them, but try to make one just in case. Or, at least just give their reason for entering.
Simple RPU rules apply here: No god modding, no auto-hitting, and be fair to your opponent/opponent's character. This is all in good fun, remember. ;D
Exact rules are in Pichu's post below. I'll copy/pasta the basic plot up here: "The year is 2250 and the wars of the multiverse have been over for almost 20 years now Earth time. The timelines have since diverged, some worlds have aged centuries, other ones simply days, but in spite of this a relative peace time has settled over the multiverse and everything is as it should be.
However the cosmic forces never seem to stay peaceful for long, and in the wake of another catastrophe, a strange force has taken warriors from all over the multiverse and transported them to a strange world that both defies physics and time itself. In order to get out and return to their own times, the combatants must battle their way through this new, strange land in order to return to their own times and finally get home.
But unrest is stirring in the depths of the multiverse, and a strange power lies in the wait, threatening to destroy the entire multiverse as a whole. Can our heroes escape this strange new world and save the multiverse once more? Or will the drive to get home force them apart and drive them to destroy each other?"

Alright! I got ninja'd on this! =O
So... I actually wasn't planning on posting this so soon. I was hoping to be able to post this myself when the time was right for me but, so it goes. We'll make due. This project is largely unfinished for me at the moment, but I guess it might be a good idea to see who would be interested before designing an entire plot that no one is going to use.
All right, so for anyone who doesn't know: An Orginal Character Tournament is a type of creative contest that was made popular by Deviantart.com. In these tournaments nicknamed OCTs a bunch of artists get together and create original characters and then bring them together to make them fight. There is usually a backstory involved, one that can be either light hearted or serious. Usually there is a fictional prize involved for the characters, from prize money to having a wish granted.
Since this is our first OCT (to my knowledge) I'd rather keep it at something simple, so the plot won't be anything very complicated. I'll post that up once I've worked the kinks out of it but for right now let's go over some ground rules.
The rounds are direct elimination. A bracket of all the contestants will be made up once everyone who wants to be in has signed up. You will be allowed two characters apiece in this. One character to act as your primary fighter, and an optional secondary character to act as either support, back up, comic relief, spiritual guidance, ect.
Each character needs to have a character sheet that lists all the character's personal traits, skills, weaknesses, and anything that might effect the way he or she (or it) battles. Your character can be anything, from a human, to a super powered mole rat, to a moving statue. The more creative the better.
Each battle will go like this (its slightly different from what Sky suggested actually):
Each combatant will get paired off with another person's character. That person will then have to write up their version of how they think the fight would go if THEIR character was the victor. This can be done in any way: through writing up a scene, drawing, animation, claymation, live action video has even been done before. So any means that you want to use to illustrate your battle from your character's point of view with your character as the victor. Both of these scenes will be posted and a panel of judges will vote on the character that they think gave the better match.
Your character's victories and defeats will not be judged directly by your character's skill. Rather, it will be your skill as a story teller and your ability to faithfully characterize both your own character and your opponent's that decides whether or not you move on to the next round. As rounds progress you can add in other people's characters who have lost their direct elimination rounds, bring back old rivals or old friends, and by the end, when the victor of each pool fights each other, it can be an all out brawl.
Couple of rules to add:
1)Don't be whiny. If you lose one of your rounds you should accept it with grace. If there is any sign of a judge being unfair to a contestant, that judge will immediately be kicked from the panel and rejudging will take place, but other than that, if your character was voted as losing then you lose.
2) going along with that, don't be a jerk. This is just a game, and its about having fun. We don't need someone running around and throwing their weight around just because their character can apparently beat up your character.
3)Keep it clean. Try to use your best judgment and don't do things to your opponent's characters that you wouldn't want to have done to yours. This includes things like rape, sexual violence, bodily mutilation ect. This isn't to say you should start crying if your character gets hurt in someone else's scenario, and you should always take your opponent's scenarios with a light heart. That said, don't take out your aggressions on your opponent's character. It's not becoming of you and it will probably lose you the round.
4) Try to be fair. Even if you think your character could simply walk in and rip out your opponent's soft fleshy throat, you need to give at least some sort of plausible fighting scenario.
5) Have fun! Go the extra mile to make something really enjoyable for both you, your opponent and your judges to read through. Make them laugh. Make them cry. Play around with both characters' traits and backstory to construct something really fun to read. It'll make for a fun and interesting story in the end.
And lastly, here's what I need from you:
First off, post in this topic if you're interested in joining this OCT. I'll have charactersheets and a plotline up (it's going to be something very simple this time, so any character can join) as soon as I see enough people are interested.
Second, if you want to be a judge PM me. You can still sign up a character for the tournament (actually I'd really encourage you to still sign up a character), you just won't be able to judge your own battles.
I'd like to have a panel of at least four judges before this thing starts and at least eight contestants.
Lets see if this is going to work. Any takers?

Alright I lied.. a little...
Doesn't make sense not to add a prompt yet, so I'll add one here.
Brandon, if you'd like to copy paste some of this and add it to the first post then that'd be swell. Just to save people the confusion.
"The year is 2250 and the wars of the multiverse have been over for almost 20 years now Earth time. Wait, that year wouldn't make sense. Both Cyril and Silas would be hundreds or so of years old by then.

They're being pulled out of different settings and timelines and all meet up in that year. They'll still be whatever age you want them to be.

Well, I've been waiting for a chance to use Aya Brea in an RP so it might as well be now. Got a basic outline for a character sheet?

RPU OCT

Sure!
It'll just be to get a general concept of your character. Enough so that someone else would be able to write a workable scenario with them in it, but you don't need to give a full history of your character. You can give us the rest of your background as your plot continues.
Anyway, here are the character sheets:
Name: Age: Physical description (or a picture*): Personality: Fighting style: Abilities: Strengths: (As in what makes your character a good fighter. Either skill with weapons, with magic, character is very crafty or witty ect.) Weaknesses: (Skills that your character lacks, weak points that other characters might be able to exploit. Limits to his or her power, ect.) Brief backstory:
*If you decide to use a picture it must be drawn or otherwise created by you.
Have at it.
