Holy Jesus. Ready for some mindfuck? There's a 50 Shades fanfic... that was turned into a novel and published! ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/71458868.htmlWEEP, my fellow writers, weep, for it is truly a dark time. Fuck everything. There seriously needs to be a law that bans all horrible fan fictions from getting published. Seriously, I'm done with the publishing industry. Fuck them and the horse they rode on.

According to this, there is possibly going to be a fourth book: ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/71440910.html
No. No. No. No. Being like Christian Grey is not something to aspire to.
and
I wish I could believe they mean actually decent smut, but I don't think anyone who finds Fifty Shades steamy knows such stories exist.

I'm not surprised she's made a new one. May as well cash in while she can. Fifty shades freed sounds like it should be last though. What do you title a book after Freed?
It's all done too? I wonder how long it took he to write it.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it ended up called "Fifty Shades More" or something ridiculous like that, considering how much originality went into it to begin with. >_>

My guesses: 50 Shades of Life (Alternatively, Life in 50 Shades) (This is the one I think might actually be an option) 50 Shades Later 50 Shades Freer 50 Shades Returns Comeback in 50 Shades 50 Shades of Cash

My brother's girlfriend put up on her Facebook recently that she liked 50 Shades of Grey. I am horrified by this.

My brother's girlfriend put up on her Facebook recently that she liked 50 Shades of Grey. I am horrified by this. So did most of my Goodreads and Facebook friends. I think I give up trying to ask for good book recommedations from them. Also is it bad that I give up on the mainstream publishing industry? The last 9 books I attempted to read from it were so poor. That one article about 50 Shades fanfic getting published just sealed it in.

I know this is a thread to discuss the book but the nerve of this "author" is getting out of hand. She's suing a party planner for using 50 shades of gray as the theme: www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/fifty-shades-of-grey-author-el-1303667#.UEpw102l0EM.twitter"EL James’ agent Valerie Hoskins said the legal letter was not personal, adding: “You can’t just hijack something someone else owns.” Let those words sink in: CAN'T HIJACK SOMETHING SOMEONE ELSE OWNS. I would laugh if there wasn't a phenomenon occurring because of this crap but it just makes me angry. That women are gobbling this up and making the Christian Grey/Anastasia Steele "romance" a standard frightens me. As well as the fan-fiction of 50 that is getting published. This world sucks.

I would like to ask the agent to explain just how it is that using something as the basis for party arrangements is hijacking the base material. It's not like they're writing about the original material and publishing their own stuff, piggybacking the original material's success. ...huh.

^ Facepalms were invented for things like this.
EL James is definately starting to piss me off. At least Meyer largely just comes off as naive and clumsy about the words she uses.

A facepalm would only be satisfactory, I think, if I could apply it to them.

2 things:
1. OH GOD, 50 Shades of Grey parties? Just...why?
2. Even wihout the irony, its pretty stupid that James seems to be picking and choosing which things to complain about. Between planning paries based off of a published book, and publishing fanficion based off of a published book, paries seem to be the lesser of two evils

Then again, it would be straight-up hypocrisy for her to complain about people publishing fanfiction of her own published fanfiction. ...which makes it even more pathetic that she's complaining about people basing party arrangements on her published fanfiction.
You'd think that anyone who managed to publish a fanfic would be grateful for any sort of fandom they could get.

That's what really bothers me. Her putting off the Twilight fandom the way she has. She was a BNF but she went on and on about how she hated the fandom, and how she didn't consider herself part of it. I understand on some level, some of the fandoms I write for, I'm not into the insane fans (A:TLA I'm looking at you) but if some of them enjoyed my story, I'd thank them for their time, not treat them like shit.

I've considered joining in the massive gripe about 50 Shades, but I've not bothered looking into it, myself. Plus, it wouldn't be an abridging like I did to Twilight (and have yet to do to the rest of that series). Rather, as it's a fanfiction, it'd have to be one of my overly-dramatic readings, as is befitting a bad fanfic.

^ Yeah especially since James wrote a fanfic and published it. I think James hadn't expected the book to be that popular and now wants it all to herself.
Technically Smeyer should be sueing James for using Twilight's popularity and for almost breaching the copyright.

I heard there's now ''bonus'' material where the author has (re)written 2 or 3 chapters of 50 Shades Of Grey from Christian's P.O.V (*cough* Midnight Sun much??) If anyone has any links to read this I'd be interested.

. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but this seems like a gross abuse of the term BDSM. Dominants are dominant in bed. They don't extend the relationship to controlling their whole partner's life. Why would anyone find that attractive? Actually, Dominants can be dominant in every aspect of the subs life, which is a "Total Power Exchange" relationship. They still have the contracts and whatnot, and safewords are still used. But not all BDSM relationships are like that, and it's only in the bedroom. More often than not, the sub and Dom talk if it's going to be TPE or not, but with FSOG, I doubt that was the case from what I've heard of it.. Anyway, with TPE relationships, I think it's not controlling every aspect, but more that the BDSM is carried out outside of the bedroom, but if the Dom is abusive, then the sub has absolutely no control whatsoever.. I've RPed a D/s relationship before, so my knowledge comes from there. I might be totally wrong, though, so sorry if I am, but this is my understanding of it. This book actually makes me sick. It's just using BDSM as an excuse for Christian to be abusive, and people's opinions were already warped on BDSM lifestyles. Now because of this....book, they're even more fucked up. Not all Doms are abusive dickprinces like Christian and not all subs are pure, clueless, innocent, and doormat-y like Ana.

^ I'll tell you what I tell Twilight fans. So long as you acknowledge that it's not good quality, it's alright by me that you enjoy it.
After all, we all like things that aren't actually good when you take a step back and examine them critically.
(I mean, hell, I actually enjoy the Transformers movies. >.> And not "ironically." )

Oh I acknowledged that fact right away. xDDD
You know how Meyer uses the word Chagrin like a billion times? Try replacing that with "Inner Goddess" that's about how much that term is brought up. Sometimes twice on the same page.
Also, many times throughout the book, the "sex" scenes felt kind of awkward on my end. Just not really well-written. As far as "risky and daring" these reviewers are throwing around? Bull.

^ That's what I said on one of my posts on goodreads. And I got kicked out of book club I usually frequent, so I deactivated my account. If some of the sex scenes were less awkward, I would like it a bit more expect for the fact I hate Christian and mildly dislike Ana for being a doormat.

I guess we're not allowed to have opinions that differ from others nowadays. >___> Who even had the nerve to put it on GOODreads anyhow? xDDD
