The turn of the century brought with it amazing technological wonders with which mankind was able to conquer and tame the lands, bringing with it a manifest destiny of civilization. Rail ways stretched from one end of the continental North America to the other, while culture and refinement from the mother country of England continued to spread in the name of Queen Victoria, and later King Edward.
Land barons, railroad tycoons, and similar such capitalists found themselves with wealth beyond their wildest dreams, able to influence governments and maintain their profits while the rest of the world toiled under them, dreaming of one day becoming gentile themselves, often to mimic the dress and speech of their capitalist oppressors, in as much as they were able.
As such, the glories of steam power and the newfangled invention by Thomas Edison, electricity(who actually did no such thing, but to hear his PR talk you wouldn't know that) have spread far and wide, with massive mechanical forces able to tame the American Frontier in ways that nobody would have dreamed of.
And though the standard of living has increased dramatically, the gap between the wealthy and the poor has only continued to increase, driving some inventive minds into madness as they are unable to see the fruits of their labors. As such, crime rates begin to rise...
Which is where you come in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~Character Sheet~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear (Person character is close to, or "diary")
I arrived in Cliffside today with just my trusty(equipment list) to my name. It's not at all like (Name of hometown). The whole place is carved out of the cliff face here, with steam lines supplying power and communication throughout. They even have some kind of broadcast electrical energy system, like Tesla wrote about, it provides free electricity to the whole town. The only problem is that you have to be used to all the physical work, there aren't really streets here so much as ladders and the occasional ramp.
This is the perfect place for a (Character job type) like me. They can really use my (special skill or ability of job type) here. I don't even have to worry too much about persecution here, as everyone seems to have some kind of outlaw or outcast background, so nobody even bats an eye that (reason for being outcast).
I've been dodging people who are looking for someone of (character description). That sounds an awful lot like me, which means (group that wronged character) is still looking for me because (motivation of group that wronged character). There will be a reckoning soon, I can feel it.
I haven't forgotten (motivation for adventuring). I'm still following my quest and (group that wronged character) will eventually pay. This town is just one step towards my goal. But at least here I'm not alone. I've already found some people who seem very much like me, when I thought I was all alone. Together, maybe we can strike back at the world.
There's rumors that the train lines that run some miles from town. They say that (group that wronged character) loaded some special cargo on the train. If I can get a group of like minded gentlemen and or ladies together by the end of next week, that could be my first step towards my goal.
Forever yours (Character name, include Job Class title if applicable)
((You also start with 100 'show' points. Points are spent by being the center of attention, and gained by 'good show' or 'top form' and basically being gentlemanly or ladylike and allowing others the spotlight between your exploits.))
