Yeah, still just playing around here. Work in progress, not finalized. Red's helmet is supposed to look like a whale, but I don't think it comes across. I actually have a blue whale sprite for the "zord" it's just too big to fit there and doesn't quite fit the stylings. The narwhal bits I think may need to be blunted more. Not sure. Greens helmet should look like a shrimp or lobster wrapped around his head, the head over his forehead, the claws on the side of his cheeks. Doesn't turn out, but given the antenna, it's not a total loss. Blues helmet should look like a turtle wrapped over the head, with the turtle head covering the forehead, and the shell covering most of the back. The orca white spots behind the eyes don't look quite right to me. I'll keep working. Also I need to bulk up the orca "zord". All the zords should probably have legs. They're supposed to be amphibious, land and water. Of course, I was having enough trouble with just the turtle. Also, I need to do the animation, showing the armor plates basically popping out of the ribcage, breastbone, hipbone, ankle bone, forearm bones, and the helmet coming from the back of the skull to wrap around. The silver on the "undersheath" mode shows where the armor plates come from, I just need to do the break downs. For that matter, need to get some effects for under sheath forming. Flames, electrical sparks, etc. Yeah, White doesn't have a fully armored form yet. May never get it. Anyway, have fun with the zombie battle. Then it's returning to civilization and meeting the main villain: Thelema Jean Swidgett. I'm going to be interested to see how this turns out. Attachments:

I love them! THE NARWHAL REMINDS ME OF THOSE DO-RE-MI DOLPHIN BATH TOYS FROM THE 90S, BUT WITH A HORN

I think the narwhal stuff is fine, narwhals don't really have blunt horns anyway

Post by JW% on Mar 11, 2013 15:46:21 GMT -8
Sorry, blunt the NOSE, not the horn, sorry. Since the base sprite I made it out of is actually a dolphin enemy from Megaman 5. Orca too really. Dolphins tend to have more pointy noses than narwhal or orca
Either way they need to be enlarged slightly to make room for the little robotic walker legs.
More to the point, IC thread is all you guys writing your fight scenes. Make them badass and triumphant(you know who you are) or have your characters totally shellshocked and battle fatigued(remember, you're fighting gore filled zombies that need to be chopped up into bits small enough they can't keep crawling after you)... I'm letting all of YOU adjust the Grimdark-o-meter right now.

Already spoken to you privately on this, but of note, there isn't a really good way to introduce your character any time soon, and both blue and black colors have been taken. Either Purple, or the alternative we spoke of please.
I like the vampire squid idea though.

Still playing around with it. The suit mockup(in Ryans colors) is there to show you the difference between just the "underwear" and the full on armor. Also, the motorcycles are majorly works in progress. The sprite shows the riders wearing the loose uniform(the grey overalls), but also wearing the armors helmet. Plus the headlight looks like some sort of gun, what's up with that? The whale mecha is also still a work in progress, but the idea should be there. Bulked up the Orca and Turtle a bit and I'm happy with how they've turned out. Also put in the White Ray, which will need some work. Yes, Oz, Tiktok, and one of the medical zombies cameo. Time to work on the other villains... just as soon as they launch some sort of attack... Attachments:

Fleshed out her profile a bit more. Weapon change from: African Knife to Scythe Scythe has two modes: as a regular scythe and as a chain sickle.

I'm still playing with the sprites. Work in progress sheet for Ryan and Lyra. I might want to pad out the transformation sequence, or might not. I'll have to see what it looks like actually animated first. And I need to colorize the grey bases for the running and jumping poses. I was thinking of making a little video game using these sprites... morphing into your suit takes away a few hitpoints, the armor takes more, but in those forms you gain a new health bar and also deal better damage... Yeah, anyway, when you guys head back to base, White is waiting for y'all. He's actually been having a busy day... Attachments:

Okay, don't think this was ever completely stated, but Warrior of Light ~Penny~ and Adlai Stevenson are writing the, or at least A, villain.
Which means that the monster the characters(sans secret agent Trivia and Brian) just faced is under their responsiblity(or in this case just Penny). The monsters appearance and capabilities is theirs to come up with and introduce. The creatures motivations, origins, and link to their main villain are theirs to reveal in their own time(and if I don't feel such things fit in the overall world which I am responsible I believe I should have a right to veto their inclusions, though I hope that won't be necessary), and they should be working with the players for the battle sequence(battle sequence looked fine to me, whats everyone else think?).
I would appreciate that the appearance and capabilities be listed here for reference, but that's not needed. Y'know, in case I want to try spriting this monster.
That means that any reveals the scientists make from studying the corpse are Penny's responsiblity to write up.
I offered my suggestions, and her response was "noooo, we shouldn't kill off Ben this soon!"(was going to make the mucus paraylzing and the claws of the hell hounds carry a curse that lets demons enter through the wounds, so anyone both spat on and clawed up would become demon posessed) so I'm leaving it up to her to give you guys a satisfying conclusion to this adventure, and any future adventures focusing on their storyline.
In the meantime I need to phase out the Vahzilok threat.

Okay, here's an attempt for the map for the graveyard and funeral home that the four kids are to guard for the night(and during service). Is there any more information needed that I should add to the map? The idea is that I've included the graveyard, the funeral home/church, the nearby tall building(it's supposed to be a barn, lower right corner), and a few other abandoned buildings in the area. The rest of the area is surrounded by the now typical suburban homes. Attachments:

It was asked what stats the Guardians of the Brink would have under the FASERIP system of Classic Marvel.
Rather than answer that, I'm going to use the 'new' SEARCH system I'm trying to work out. It works very much the same quite frankly, and I'll walk you through it step by step...
Prior to undergoing the process that Oz used on everyone, let's assume that Austin was "normal" for a child his age/size. We'll use him as a base.
As such, he would have the following stats:
Strength = 3 He can neither lift, nor carry, more than a child his age and size. Agility = 3 He is neither good at throwing a ball, nor at hitting things with a stick. Endurance = 3 He can neither be hit hard, nor can he hold his breath long. Charisma = 3 He doesn't know how to be the center of attention, nor does he know how to blend into his environment. Reasoning = 3 He is neither book learned, nor quick to notice details. Heart = 3 He is both easily swayed, and has a hard time focusing his energies.
This is average for a child. Average for an adult would be 5s across the board. (Actually, Austin probably has more "agility" and "heart", I'm not sure. He seems stupidly brave and probably played catch with his little brothers, but for the sake of this I'm leaving him as is)
Hitpoints Drama/spellpoints
Because of the setting, Austin would SUBSTAT out like this:
Strength = 3 ~Striking = 3 ~Lifting = 3
As he grows older he will probably gain more Lifting than Striking. The world is a civilized place, and hitting people is generally not done, while carrying and moving things is still encouraged.
Agility = 3 ~Ranged = 3 ~Melee = 3
This will probably remain even, as Agility is also used for driving skills, and in a civilized world Austin would learn how to drive.
Endurance = 3 ~Blocking = 2 ~Soaking = 4
In this setting you are encouraged to be sensitive and report even the slightest pains, so you do not build up a tolerance for 'blocking' incoming damage. Conversely, because of better than average diet and medical care, the average citizens build up much better "soaking Endurance" for resisting diseases, fatigue other issues. So Austin can't particularly take a punch... but he could pull an all-nighter studying.
Charisma = 3 ~Charm = 4 ~Stealth = 2
The social setting encourages people to make themselves known, to stand out in the crowd. As such, Austin is much more likely to try to charm someone than he is to stand very still and quiet and blend into his environment.
Reasoning = 3 ~Logical = 4 ~Holistic = 2
The social setting also trains it's children in book learning and the use of technology, but sadly does not encourage "outside the box thinking" or quick reactions to 'gut feelings'(information gathered on a subconscious level) mostly because the culture hasn't found a way to grade this kind of thing. Austin knows how to read... he does not know how to learn a new language just from watching people use it.
Heart = 3 ~Bending = 1 ~Holding = 5
Once more, this is blamed on the setting. While not completely mystically disabled, Austin, like most everyone else who is 'normal' will never be able to cast spells and weave magicks and bend the universe to his will. However, years of watching television and seeing all the lies(and efforts to us "Charm Charisma" against the voters common sense), has created savvy and stubborn people who don't believe everything they see on TV and hold on to their beliefs when others try to sway them.
Now, AFTER Oz got through with everyone, the following changes were made:
First of all, every stats doubled. If any of their stats were above 6 before this doubling happened, the sudden massive change couldn't be handled and the doubled stat was compared against their Endurance Soaking number. If the doubled stat was higher than their Endurance Soaking(before IT doubled!) then they suffered a heart attack or brain hemorage and died in the pod.
Fortunately, most of the team survived, and Austin, at the first day after his skin had regrown, had stats like this:
Strength = 6 ~Striking = 6 ~Lifting = 6 Agility = 6 ~Ranged = 6 ~Melee = 6 Endurance = 6 ~Blocking = 4 ~Soaking = 8 Charisma = 6 ~Charm = 8 ~Stealth = 4 Reasoning = 6 ~Logical = 8 ~Holistic = 4 Heart = 6 ~Bending = 2 ~Holding = 10
For a comparison, here is what the first Vahzilok zombie stats out to:
Strength = 10 Agility = 5 Endurance = 20 Charisma = 2 Reasoning = 2 Heart = 10 ~Bending = 1 ~Holding = 19
A good enough reason to run away from them.
'Scalpel' statted out something like this:
Strength = 20 Agility = 20 Endurance = 20 Charisma = 15 Reasoning = 5 Heart = 5 ~Bending = 2 ~Holding = 7
And I have no idea what the monster stats out to...
But how did Brian defeat Scalpel? Well... by fully equipping and training and just development of the body allowing the augmentations to fully take effect, the following additions are be added in story even now:
Strength +15 Agility +15 Endurance +20 Charisma (+10) ~Charm +5 ~Stealth +15 Reasoning (+15) ~Logical +5 ~Holistic +20 Heart (+15) ~Bending +20 ~Holding +5
Powers: Personal Armor (+50 hitpoints) Personal Forcefield (+10 Blocking Endurance, can not be blindsided, can be overloaded/disabled) ~Can be used to cling to walls Personal Weapon (+20 damage)(+30 in Bens case, but then he doesn't have a melee weapon) Personal Sidearm (+10 ranged damage) Elemental Affinity (may manipulate their chosen element Bending Heart rank for the cost of one drama/spellpoint. May have a number of known manipulation techniques equal to 1/5th their Logical Intelligence, rounding down.)
The players are not quite at THAT level, but that is the intention of reaching when our heroes qualify as true "super heroes".
~~~~~~~~~~~
projected SEARCH stats for Austin(after he grows into his powers)
Strength = 21 Agility = 21 Endurance = (26) ~Blocking = 24 ~Soaking = 28 Charisma = (16) ~Charm = 13 ~Stealth = 19 Reasoning = (19) ~Logical = 13 ~Holistic = 24 Heart = (19) ~Bending = 22 ~Holding = 15
Hitpoints: 68 Dramapoints: 54
Powers: Personal Armor (+50 hitpoints) Personal Forcefield (+10 Blocking Endurance, can not be blindsided, can be overloaded/disabled) ~Can be used to cling to walls Saber (+20 melee slashing damage)(total damage from a single strike: 41) Personal Sidearm (+10 ranged particle damage) Elemental Affinity ~Wind Blade (Ranged Slashing damage at Bending Heart level. Can be added to melee.) ~Wind Glide (+Bending Heart to movement, including leaping and breaking a fall)
Total of, about, 180 points? Give or take? Less than Triumph City characters? A little. This is more of a "Street level hero" in Triumph City. He'd have to work as a team to take down a true supervillain. Like Asmodeus.
Okay, posting mostly to kick this up to the top of the OOC forum again, but I do have some things to day.
Lyra is going to be out of it for awhile. She's going to be in Brian's med bed. That's not to say I'm forgetting about her. She's going to have nightmares of Oz drilling open her skull and prodding at her brain, which may or may not be true.
Brian, Ben, and Austin are available to interact with one another, but it's the middle of the night and both Brian and Ben are pretty badly beaten up(Brian looks a bit worse but Ben got hit emotionally pretty damn hard). The three WILL be encouraged to show up at Lucy's funeral IF Ryan and Zeph can get the body back. If Ryan and Zeph do NOT get the body back, Ben and Austin(and maybe Brian) will be sent, with the police, for a coordinated morning strike on Dr. Krylov and company. I'm picturing it with the police having the building surrounded while the heroes go in to beat the crap out of the villains and give the police a safe way in.
Now... as for the rest... you have a choice, in broad strokes, that one of the following occurs(in order that I'm considering them, least to most).
Zeph and/or Ryan get pulled over by the police. Not really considering it all that much.
Zeph and/or Ryan crash. They're tired both from the fight, it's the middle of the night, and neither of them are good drivers. It's highly likely one or both of them could get into an accident and hurt themselves. Given the general tone of the RP, this is highly likely to happen... but not something I've placed too much plans on.
Zeph and/or Ryan trigger their motorcycles transformations. This drains them, putting them basically in the same boat as Lyra(at the part when she started generating lightning, not as she is now) when it comes to the inability to continue a prolonged fight. But the added speed and that they'd be FLYING means they'd be much more likely to catch Krylov and less likely to get into an accident. They could probably catch up to him and wreck his truck in the middle of the street(eventually drawing police attention). This means they have enough time to subdue him(maybe) and reclaim Lucy's body(certainly) before they start getting woozy and pass out (and/or the police show up), with their last vision being somebody in the same kind of suit as them saving them, then Austin and Ben(if they're up), seeing Brian hauling the two of them back to base for a good nights rest before they have to all get dressed up to attend Lucy's funeral and comfort her family.
Zeph and/or Ryan drive like maniacs and catch up with Krylov after he's arrived at his base, but before he's managed to unload Lucy. Advantages here: Zeph and Ryan aren't as drained as they would be from using a power, they discover Krylovs base(something Oz wants) and they start the fight before Krylov has a chance to dig in and make preparations against them. Disadvantages here: Trivia doesn't get a chance to show up until it's all over, and she's not needed then.
Zeph and Ryan drive sensibly and catch up to Krylov in his base after he's unloaded Lucy. Advantages here: Zeph and Ryan are for all intents and purposes fully recovered from the last fight and will be able to tear through anything short of another Abomination Suit, plus they've found his base, plus Trivia has a chance to show up and help out(though she may or may not be needed). Disadvantages here: It's possible Krylov might manage to dig in and they'll face more opposition than just him and his driver zombie and any of the unloading crew.
Thoughts?
Opening this up for new players/characters.
The second batch of Guardians will have either a mineral, metallic or jewel theme to their colors. So instead of "Guardian Red"(who we already have) it's "Guardian Ruby"(totally different, right?) or... uh... "Guardian Iron"(Iron is red, right?)
The second batch won't be thrown into thing like the first was(expect more, slower, development of training and powers), and won't be working under Oz, so it's going to be some time before they get rolled into the game, and some time after THAT before they meet the other player characters. Infact, this second batch could be seen as "evil counterparts" to the primary heroes. The player characters get to choose if they're actually evil or not of course.
Oh, and if corte agrees, Ben's father will be recruited as the "evil counterparts" drill sergeant and trainer. Hopefully to give 'em hell.
Right, Just occurred to me, the second group of kids won't be picking their weapon. They're issued and trained in their weapons, rather than just a open closet and being told to pick whatever is shiny for them and getting the training after the fact.
... also this was primarily made because some new players asked to join... but oh well.
Okay, I'm wondering if we should time skip this a little, at least get the children to their day off(or they're day grocery shopping, or whatever you want to do). What we're basically skipping is the cheering up of Lyra and convincing her that being a blasphemous inhuman creation that shoots lightning is not a bad thing.
Basically I want to advance this to introduce the next threat, and also bring in the new team of kids.
Right then, as soon as I get around to it, we're skipping forward. The team will be transported from the base to town, where they attended the funeral in peace and then have the rest of the day free to do shopping.
Also, Trivia will be laying bleeding on the floor of the base she tried to infiltrate, possibly with brain damage.
So... post what you want for breakfast or the funeral before I get around to advancing the story. I really want to re-open this to newcomers by allowing the second wave to be introduced.
