Well, that was an interesting development. I thought Demo reel was ok, but if Doug thinks continuing NC is the better option that's fine too. As long as he's fine with it.

I have mixed feelings on the removal of a cut-off date.
On one hand, now he can cover all sorts of movies. There are a lot of crappy modern movies that would be fun to see get the NC treatment.
On the other hand, I hope he still covers older movies still as well, especially since what's being considered nostalgic has changed since he first started (2003 was 10 years ago! Hard to believe...). Part of the fun for NC for me is seeing long forgotten movies I've never heard of being brought into the limelight and seeing how odd some of them could get.

I saw the video yesterday myself, and I'm glad the Nostalgia Critic is back. But I'm also sort of torn on this. I mean I liked Demo Reel for what there was. It was still sad to see NC go but I didn't hold that against Demo Reel at all.
My only hope is that at the very least the new actors that did the supporting cast of Demo Reel get to stay around. I liked their characters, and I could adjust to seeing the characters go, sad as it may be. But it just seems like it would be rather unfair if there wasn't some way to keep around the actors that played Tacoma, Rebecca, and Quinn, since they were all good at what they did.

From what I have seen of Demo Reel, I liked a lot of the characters. I hope they cameo in the future.

I liked Demo Reel a lot too, and I'm of the opinion that anyone who said they hated it for not being the Nostalgia Critic needs a smack upside the head. With a meat cleaver. That said, I am very glad that a) it's coming back and b) that it isn't coming back because of a bunch of fanboys demanding Donnie DuPre's demise, but because Doug wanted to do more with it.

I really enjoyed the review. And I agree the movie was terrible. I mean what a waste. Those parents were utterly terrible, and so were all those other people. You know, I could see how this should have worked. It could have been about teaching the Greens not to be the kind of parents that use their kids as trophies or as tools to fulfill their own goals (which they rather were).
And it would have worked if Timothy actually protested or showed some of his own interests. I mean, the idea of that character means part of him is a kid, but on another level he's not human, and definitely more intelligent than he lets on (since he knew he was going to die, and he was only there to test his "parents").
Also...too many pencils.

On a sidenote, I am happy that the cast of Demo Reel is part of the Nostalgia Critic now, their skits were pretty damn hilarious.

^Agreed. Chia-Child was hilarious, and right on target for that film.

Great episode. The cast of Demo Reel was used well, as well. Doug's comedic acting was pretty good (I was in stitches at the entire introduction as he kept that same whimsical tone). The highlight was definitely the Chia Child sketch, though. I think nearly every gag in that cracked me up, and it managed to summarize everything wrong about the movie in a minute or two.

Definitely a solid review for his comeback. I have to say, if this is the sort of quality we get with him taking two weeks to put out Nostalgia Critic videos from now on; I'm all for the wait.

His speech near the end of the "Cat in the Hat" review has got to be one of the greatest speeches I've ever heard.

I've been enjoying every single one of his new reviews. That break from NC must have done wonders to him. I guess that extra week between episodes really does make a huge difference.

I think before his break, I was slowly having issues with Nostalgia Critic episodes because of the following: 1. A lot of the material he chose from was mediocre at best, leading to some very boring episodes 2. His constant screaming and memes got old QUICK 3. His constant crossovers became rather boring
I think now that he has the time, he makes the episodes all really shine. Plus the extra characters and subplots just adds more fun and gives him something to do rather than cutting from the movie to the critic sitting in a white room.

I think making weekly video reviews, on top of everythin else was starting to crack him. He's doing much better now. I even kind of like his minor videos, where he talks about things like Disney Princesses and R&J. I'm glad he actually stuck up for the Princesses.
I like how he uses the Demo Reel people. I see people constantly whine about them, but I think they're funny as hell and enjoy the subplots with them.

I also like his "editorial" episodes. First off, it's a good "break" from the comedy. He can just wind down and relax while the reviews are beingworked on. Second, it's nice he gives some intelligent counter-arguments to everyone else's opinion, a la "Looney Toons" and "Romeo and Juliet".
However, the editorials were hit and miss for a short while. The first one of Twilight was mostly stuff WE have talked to death about and The Where The Wild Things are was kinda "meh".
I think he is getting better though, so we'll see.
Also, the stuff he is reviewing is definitely better. Rather than going for the "blah", he's definitely going for the worse of the worse

Yeah, I think the movies he chooses to review now help. Sometimes he'd review pretty forgettable movies pre-break, but every movie he's tackled so far after has either been spectacularly bad and/or led to him looking deeply into the movie. As someone mentioned before, for example, I liked how he used the Cat and the Hat review not just to pick apart the movie, but also to show why Seuss's stories have stood the test of time and how adaptations that attempt to make something "hip" or "modern" can actually date it and completely miss the appeal of the source material. The skits with the Demo Reel guys definitely help vary the episodes as well and have been pretty funny.
I enjoy the editorials, too. My favorite was probably the princess one, but the Looney Tunes Show one makes me want to actually check out the show.

His editorials are definitely getting better.
What does everyone think of having him review something good for once? I know it's funnier to tear apart something awful, but I liked it whenever the Nostalgia Chick reviewed good stuff.

So he made his first Top 11 list since his return -- and it's on his favorite South Park episodes.
Remind me again why I haven't checked out the show?

So I am really enjoying Doug's videos over A:TLA. I think it is because we get to see how much he is enjoying the series, and there is just something awesome about seeing someone enjoy a series you love.

It actually took me a while to find those.
Did anyone watch the Jurassic Park review? That's one of my all time favorite movies, like top five. How easy does he go on it?

If I recall, he was nice to it. Yeah, he pointed out the flaws, but he still praises it and says it's a good movie.
Anyway, as someone who followed A:TLA from Day 1, it's fun watching his videos for it. I forgot what it was like to watch the series and not know what was coming next, and it's cool when he actually predicts a couple of things correctly that I missed. And, of course, it means watching him tear into The Last Airbender will be an even bigger treat.
