Is anyone else depressed about TS's current state? This site is awesome and used to full of life and fun but now no one's here anymore and many people decided to leave for various reasons. Does anyone else know what the hell is going on? Where is everyone?!

I would say it's because the Twilight craze is finally dying and therefore there is less of it to snark, but we do so much more than Twilight. We snark anything that deserves it. I don't get it.

It could be that the website itself is dying and people are starting to move on. There's another community that I feel a lot more connected to and that's where I go to interact. Here I just sort of lurk.

I don't get it either! It doesn't make sense because even though the Twilight craze is dying down, we always snark plenty of other stuff! It's like everyone died or something I was always worried that once Twilight was done this site wouldn't exist anymore but as we started to move on to other things to snark I thought it would be okay. I guess I'm just not ready for TS to die out. We got to do something to not let it die.

Honestly I kind of like the quieter more empty TS better, because my time on TS when it was a lot bigger was full of lots of drama (which was why I took a 2 year hiatus). There's just enough action going on here that its not completely boring, but I can also see what you're saying. There is a bit of nostalgia thinking about back when the forum was hustling and bustling with dozens of people online at once.

I've been sad about this, too. I really miss the good ol' days whenever Twilight was huge and everyone wanted to talk about how much they hate it. I would say it's because the Twilight craze is finally dying and therefore there is less of it to snark, but we do so much more than Twilight. We snark anything that deserves it. I don't get it. ^ Yup. I still remember that whole thing about a supposed "feud" between this place and "The anti twilight movement" and the place where people posted threads about Twilight fan encounters and how some people kinda abused that. Time flies.
If you'd like more people to join you could always just mention it to people who are looking for a community, but either way I'm OK with it.

The slow down in activity is part of the reason the staff is currently working on trying to figure out ways to re-organize the forum to make it a little less Twilight centric and more focused on literature. Its also part of the reason we're getting rid of the dead clubs.
And in general, the slow down can be attributed to two things. 1) The Twilight fad is dying down and 2) Several members are simply just moving on.
Final edit (although I make no promises): If you have any ideas to improve the forum, please don't hesitate to pass on your ideas to me or another staff member.

I think we can admit that the Twilight fad (and the vampire fad) has finally died down. Not only that, but a lot of people have grown up or are simply busy with their lives. Hell, my old snarks are a good 1-2 years old.

Maybe we could add to our title to make it more inclusive and to advertise that we aren't just about Twilight? Like Twilight Sucks: And Other Opinions on Modern Pop Lit or something like that?

I think this could be a good idea, as well. I think that could be a good start, and I mean yeah there was a lot of drama but I loved always having something new to talk about with making new threads all the time and there was a lot of interesting people too. I was also thinking we could all use this thread to come up with new suggestions or ways that we could get people to come on here and possibly get those people that used to be here back.

Maybe we should add a Host movie and book section like we have of Twilight? Seeing as the movie is going to come out soon and supposedly there's going to be another book

We could just extend the Twilight Section to simply be the Stephenie Meyer section

You can ask former members about coming back, but it's their choice in the end. You can't FORCE them them come back if they don't want to, and you shouldn't.

I too want this site to come back to life. I love this board. It's full of intelligent, well spoken, and fun people. I have to disagree with Firefly about the level of activity, for me it's too slow. Several hours can pass before anyone ever says anything anywhere, and that's just strange to me, especially compared to what this site was like before. I mean even I didn't go to this site for a long time, but I don't want it to die.
I think the solution isn't to simply change to The Host. That's another extension of the fad. And if it's really a fad, it's temporary. That will only give us a small boost, but eventually we'll be back here.
We need to focus on literature, or as ozymandiasii suggested, just pop culture critique in general. Trying to get old members back is good, but we also need to focus on getting new people, which means getting the word out, like Pinkemon said.
I know we usually didn't advertise ourselves before because we might attract rabid Twilight fans, but I think at this point it's not a bad idea.

Yes, we really should start moving on from twilight and start branching out more. If you guys have suggestions for new names for the website, we now have a page: tsdcv3.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=supdates&action=display&thread=5432

I think this is a good idea as well but what I'm wondering is how the site would be set up and organized. Would the discussion threads we have be the same excluding the twilight ones? I also wonder if the old members would come back when there's a make over. Also, would that mean there would be a few new mods or staff members as well?

Part of me wants to ask about possibly bringing back the fangirl attack threads, since that used to be a HUGE part of the site and brought in a lot of attention, but that would probably cause a lot of *negative* attention.
I too think we should move on to pop culture as a whole, but I think we should keep the Twilight boards as they are. There's WAY too many posts on them to just have them grouped under "romance" or "Stephenie Meyer."
I agree that it wouldn't be a bad idea to start advertising. I think people would want to discuss things on here if they knew about it, especially if it's for pop culture in general and not just Twilight anymore.

And really, I'm sure people are wondering why the hell I'm so hellbent on reviving this site when I could be talking or hanging out with real friends. But honestly, this is my safe haven. The problem is that I don't connect with people my age because all of the ones that I used to know only care about getting high or partying and not having intellectual discussions about literature. When I first saw this site, I fell in love with it because my mind was like, fuck yes! FINALLY some people who are around my age who like having discussions like this and actually fuckin read!!!! I'm sick and tired of young people looking at you weird when you ask what they like to read but omgz!111 Readingz only for nerds!11 I have an extremely hard time making friends and when I went on here more frequently, I wanted to be friends with most of the people on here because they were nice and cared about literature. What I'm curious about is how we change the site a bit to have more of pop culture. We should keep the site as it is but don't we already have pop culture things on here? We have the music, books, and tv section, no?

This place also feels like my haven on the interenets, so I hate to say it die. I was thinking maybe we could have people snarking like TV shows and stuff, in addition to literature and fanfiction. I would love love love to have someone to rage over degrassi with.

I was actually brought here by Melina Pendulum from her youtube channel. My first thought was 'Finally! People who don't like Twilight! I can vent my frustration here.' After being here for a week I began to feel comfortable and even though I have trouble expressing what I'm trying to say to others I feel like I can express my opinions without people getting up in arms.

What I'm curious about is how we change the site a bit to have more of pop culture. We should keep the site as it is but don't we already have pop culture things on here? We have the music, books, and tv section, no? I am in a similar boat. I don't really have any in person friends, at least nothing really close. And it's only made worse by the fact that I don't know if I can even drive (bit of a long story) and I live in Miami, where cars are the major form of transit, so any outing for me has to basically be planned in advance. So my friendships are online. And while I've managed to do rather well for my situation, it gets rather lonely sometimes, not having someone to talk to, or waiting for answers when you really want someone to talk to. Maybe I'm being selfish like that, I don't know. As for changing the site, I think the idea of changing the name that the mods started is great. Changing the name to something else will help separate us from the idea that we are still simply a "hate site" as some might think looking at the name now. And with Twilight dying down, people are less likely to go to search engines and look under things like "Twilight sucks" (which, is actually how I found this board in it's original version way back). I think we could still keep the Twilight boards and everything. The arguments and rebuttals that have been made are too good to get rid of, and too reflective of why this place was made, the types of discussions we wanted to have. But we could, for example, take those sections from the main board and make them subsections of one of the literature boards. But what's important is that we get people talking, and create a community for people to talk and be friends...and rant about things that make them want to ram their head through a brick wall of course.

I tend to lurk around in the Twilight Fanfiction and Serious Business sections these days. I'm still semi-active. I still check to see what's going on. Life gets in the way sometimes, though. I think the reason for the slowdown might be because of school, college, work, etc. As for boosting up activity? Well, I have been trying to recruit new members. X3 Doesn't always work, though, sadly.

Hey everyone, I mentioned in the Name Changing thread Proboards v5, and I wanted to share some more information about the update and some concerns/ideas members have come up with. 1. This is not an optional update, the update will be applied automatically either this summer or this fall. What I want to do is go ahead and apply this update to TS during my Spring Break (in a couple of weeks) that way I can personally keep an eye on TS while the update is being applied. 2. More information about the update can be found here. 3. Some of the new features that would come with the upgrade include: Restricting who can see your activity feed, blocking certain members from messaging you, "friending" other members, hiding posts from specific members, and the ability to follow other members. 4. The upgrade also provides specific benefits for Hippie, Nebbles, and myself as admins. The new way that the staff area is set up allows for easier reorganization of the forum (which includes the creation of new boards, deletion of old boards, creation of new categories, and etc). However, it is not perfect 1. There is an optional feature which would allow members to like posts. There are some problems that could happen with a system like this. 2. There is no karma system. 3. The update would cause the current version of TS to lose its custom plugins, but I would be able to recreate these on Proboards v5. In addition to questions about Proboards v5, I noticed in the name changing thread some members were talking about changing the URL of the forum. The good thing about this is that when a forum URL is changed, Proboards automatically redirects to the new URL. However, there doesn't seem to be a clear majority decision about whether or not to change the forum URL. So the decision to change the forum URL may be saved for later. Several members also talked about advertising for TS, when the new name is decided, a new forum logo will be created and I will make sure that there are versions of the logo that will be available for all members to use on other sites to help promote TS. I am also trying to get Proboards to feature this forum through Twitter. Twitter advertising would be easy to do myself, but Mars has the login for the Twilight Sucks twitter and no one on the staff has been able to contact her in a long time. I'll try to use my personal twitter and tumblr to promote the site in addition to making a couple of posts about it on the Twilight Sucks tumblr. If you have any other ideas for advertising, let me or another staff member know. Aabbiq made a great suggestion in the staff section earlier today. Aabbiq suggested the creation of either an entire section or board where members would be able to post only critiques or reviews. If you have any ideas, do not hesitate to post them in this thread (the Name Changing thread should solely be used for suggesting new names for the forum) or PM a staff member your suggestion. I will try to check on TS every day this week, but I can't guarantee that I will be able to because of my student teaching schedule and my plans for this weekend (which were made months ago). If you want an immediate response from me, the best way to get one is to e-mail me at meghanjh@hotmail.com P.S. Castlemoon, I hope you don't mind me making this thread an official thread where members can post ideas for how to increase member activity, increase the number of new members, and general suggestions for how to improve TS.
