No karma function? I actually see that as a plus. It just sets things up for people to be passive-aggressive asses or to get overly anal about how much people like you depending on such a trivial system.

I'm personally all for deleting karma and any sort of upvote system. It really is needless feature.

Most people (myself included) just had their karma changed to a number they liked shortly after moving here anyway.

I think I was 19 when we started this site and I am now 24 years old. That's a good 5 years this site has had (in various forms).
Why am I no longer active? (well apart from this moment...)
Life got in the way.
But I still have a soft spot in my heart for this site, so I like to come back.
Maybe I will try to come back, but I have a full-time job now, and a long distance relationship, and usually the time I have to come on here, is when everyone is asleep.
But maybe that doesn't matter too much anymore.

I know what you mean, Aunt Dew. I'm in college now, and that really takes up my time. And, while I like it here for sure, when I do get free time, other sites and things are priority.

Life in general has gotten in the way of any major or even moderate participation in TS for some time, for my part. Ironically, what drew my initial attention to the site were the threads which dealt with neither pro nor anti Twilight topics. Most of us surely knew that the fad would die down. Just like the currents of waves in the sea, Twilight came upon us in waves which grew large, crashed against the shore of popular interest, and were swallowed by other waves of influence.
My main interest in this site lay in the opportunity I see to explore and critique political trends and ideas, many of which are at once silly in their conception and yet serious in their consequences. Even now I struggle against some ideas while (hopefully) defending others; there is much work to be done still. It's unfortunate to me that many of the debates are not--or at least do not seem to be--of interest to members anymore. That was a part of the site I particularly enjoyed. And sometimes I think I can see it emerging once more.
I definitely like the idea of the site morphing into one which critiques general literature. But I also know full well how difficult it can be to find time to post on this or any site. Life has a way of making our interests difficult to endulge in. Perhaps another consideration is that although many people may not participate in the site, perhaps there are at least some who enjoy reading the exhanges between members. Additionally, other members may need only see the staff continuing in its current direction to be inspired to post again.

I'm gonna go ahead and jump into the thread ten days late...
I think we should keep the site largely literary and generally snarky. The snarky, literary people and feel were what made this site so much fun (and they still do), and I'd kind of like to keep that. So, maybe we could become something more resembling a general critiquing site? I'm in favor of advertising, too, bringing in some new blood and all that.

I still have a bit of a fear that 90% of the boards are going to be stripped away in favor of making the site definitely on one topic. ._. /paranoia

I can make some banners for people to use that could link to our forum. I just would like to finalize the [possibly new] new of our site before I make any drawings.

It just sucks that this site is inactive because almost nobody visits anymore. I remember that TS was very active around 2008 to 2009. I wonder when the fall started. I got banned before so I wouldn't know. Anyways, there must be any way to bring the site back to normal.
Every time I log in here, it's almost as if nobody's around because some of the topics are really old.
Twilight is dead so there's no point into beating a dead horse.

Literally the only forum that gets posts with any form of consistency is the RPU. A few others get some activity, but they're just slower - the writer's section, the art board. But you're right, Twilight is dead, which is why the site needs to be rehauled.

We're not planning on deleting any boards. The staff is actually discussing adding some more sections (such as one for the sole purpose of posting critiques/reviews) and changing some others (such as changing the Twilight boards to Stephenie Meyer boards). That sounds like a really good idea. I think that's what got this site so popular at one point, just the fact that people had a place to rant and discuss Twilight with people who generally come off as intelligent and rational. Plus this was a place where the rapid fanbrats didn't pop around frequently.

We come off as a bunch of shits hating on a book and author that nobody gives a shit about anymore, and honestly is a major detraction to appealing more people. The idea now is to switch over to a focus on writing and RP, since those're the only thing that keep this site remotely alive.

I didn't mean you should do that with Twilight anymore, I'm just saying that "popular bad books" can be a great subject of discussion. And since they're so popular, you'll encounter a lot of people who will violently try to attack you as it were for disagreeing with the book they seem to be so obsessed with. I did word it a bit dodgy in my previous post I see, my apologies.

We'll just look like hipsters hating on popular books to be ~different~, and honestly, that's an image I want to move TS away from.

In all honesty, I kind of saw this coming, because Twilight isn't going to last forever. I thought to myself, "What would happen to this site once the Twilight franchise died?" I didn't expect it to happen now though. 2008 seemed like it was only yesterday. Time flies by really fast and the next thing you know, it's fast forward to 2014 and the site is now almost lifeless.

The fangirls moved on to the next fad and grew out of Twilight. From an outsider's perspective, gearing the site to hating popular books is gonna make us look like haters and we'll look like a bunch of negative, bitter people. It's best to make the site feel... positive every once in a while.

/kicks the old thread.
It is a bit of a shame to see this place so quiet. I know I've not been around in forever (and I actually forgot about this place) but I joined here when we were on the second board, and I think it was around the time Harry Potter ended for movies. I don't think having it as a forum that criticises books is a good idea, but I think maybe having it as a general literary discussion forum could work? Idk, like just talk about books whether it's praising, criticising or whatever (although maybe not because last time I was here, it was kind of like that).

Haven't you noticed that the Literary Discussion board isn't as active? Sure, some topics are but as a whole, it's not as active. Maybe turn this site into a site that sporks other works? It's better to turn TS into a giant art site or an RPG one, since the only board that's constantly active is the roleplaying universe.

We're hoping for the board to become more of an arts in general site. And true, the RPU is the only thing really constantly active, though that comes mostly from a small group of us (though we'd freaking love if more people would join in xD).
