"Don't a lot of like real life animals get more moody when they're about to reproduce? I mean Romy's pregnant and she's moody and violent sometimes." Marco said half-jokingly "Is it possible the kaiju was being "suicidal" because of that?"

"So, wait," Dan said, thinking. "The Angelous' Core is like a parasite, then? Wait, that means they're born with a parasitic nucleus. That....what? That makes no sense. Why would anything evolve like this?"
Dan's answer just made himself more confused. Dammit, was this all some elaborate trick April was playing on them?

"So, what you're saying is... we may deal with some form of 'kamikaze' kaiju?" Max asked, finally speaking up. He'd come back in and followed the others who weren't patrolling out here, and had been silent for the entire talk. "Actually... what kaiju are kinda... prominent around here, anyway?..."
Liz had also followed them inside, although she was still rubbing her shoulder. There was no sign of injury, none at all- but her mind kept reminding her of the pain shooting down her arm from it. She sat between May and Marco, and listened half-heartedly.
"Everyone gets moody and violent sometimes... it's called hormones."

April looked at Marco and Dan(and Liz). "You're both right. Children are parasites." She said it with a clear indication that she still considered them children, despite everything.
"Yes, that's exactly what I was saying." April gave Max a smile, as though she'd taught a cockroach an amusing trick. She came out from behind the desk and walked over to them. "And that's a very good question. Here is a briefing on the most common kaiju, both daikaiju and otherwise, you'll meet here in North America." She almost looked like she was going to pat Max on the head as she handed out the pamphlets.
"Predominately in this area we will be dealing with tunneling and desert daikaiju, though near enough by is the largest known concentration of plant analogy daikaiju, and the kaiju parasites that inhabit them. Giant squirrels and bees and such. The Gulf of Mexico, which is a surprisingly short mecha trip away," or super sonic jet flight... by foot it was much much too far, "Also contains a number of interesting aquatic types that have only been seen near the Bermuda Triangle. Some of them are... exotic types, that are difficult to describe as being similar to any beasts."
She finished passing the pamphlets out and went back to her desk. "Your assignment for today is to pick one of the local Daikaiju you are likely to encounter and prepare a lecture for your fellow pilots on how you think they should react if they encounter it during their patrols. The library and base intranet is open to you, since I don't plan on grading you anyway. Just giving you extra duties if you fail to follow orders."
She considered for a bit. "Unless there are any questions, I think that's all we need here in the briefing room. Next will be your living quarters, including the recreation areas, medical bay, and cafeteria I'd think." She gestured for them to take the door, or for them to ask any further questions.

"You were a parasite then once yourself Miss Anderson," Marco said, without thinking. After the words fell out of his mouth, he just looked at the pamphlets innocently.

April gave the 'innocently studying' Marco a glare, but it lacked the pure venom that had shut down Patty. It seemed more a glare on general principles, rather than actually caring at all about what Marco had said.
Besides, if rumors from the conventional forces were true, April had never been a child. The city builders had been trying to get a geothermal vent to power the city and had Dug Too Deep, allowing April to be spawned from the blackest depths of hell itself. When she learned to mellow out a little, then maybe Satan would take her back.
With no further questions seeming to be forthcoming, the group once more went to the elevators. "There are only a limited number of surface or nearsurface structures, so most of you are going to be housed in the luxury dorms." April explained as they descended to a more secure level. "And even then, some of you may need to double up. While we have ample facilities for up to fifteen mecha, it's generally assumed that you will be circulating throughout the North American bases so you can cover the most territory. If you manage to survive training of course."
The elevators opened into what looked like a two floor food court from some mall. Hanging and potted plants, along with occasional water features kept things pleasant, and the tables and benches looked both functional and comfortable. Indirect lightly filtered through the place as if to imply a skylight, though there was none at this depth. A few people were taking their late breakfast or early lunch at this point, so it wasn't all that crowded. "Your dorm rooms are actually a floor below, and have their own kitchens if you prefer, but here is usually where one can get your meals. Recreation centers also line the area, since I know you're just waiting to spend time slacking off. I'd show all of you the gym, but honestly do you see any of yourselves exercising where it not required?" There was also a pool, and many of the recreation centers would double as training areas.
"I bet you never thought you'd make it this far Mister Kistiakowsky." April said, turning to try once more to get Darren sober. "After all, you're still provisional... but who knows, your little project might put all the rest of these Pilots out of a job. I guess you should enjoy the easy life while you can. Oh, sure, if you manage to retire back to the city below you'll probably be even more respected, but even here you've got to get used to it. You're Pilots. Wealth is at your fingertips, without you out there risking your life people are going to die, so you'll be given the good life in exchange for going out. Good food, soft beds..." April noticed someone hurrying over to their group and gave a little unpleasant smile. "...whores throwing themselves at your feet..."
The young woman looked over dressed as she hurried up to them, wearing large thigh high boots of shiny black with red flames. Her red skirt was short and tight enough you could see the black underwear with every step she took, and her entire outfit, including her elbow gloves and the bands with catears on them holding her dark hair up in pigtails, seemed to have glowsticks somehow attached or woven into them.
"Hi!" She said, smiling from beneath probably a bit too much make up. "I'm sorry I missed you, but I guess I found you eventually. Hey! Patty!" She swooped the little girl up into a great big hug before looking her over. "How was your birthday party? Have a good time?" Patty nodded happily and chirped an affirmative but the new arrival was already steamrolling ahead. "Hope you liked playing with my boys, they really liked being with you." She gave a stage whisper to the rest of the Pilots. "Especially when Jay was paying for it."
"Anyway, I seem to have missed the memo that you were all getting the tour, so sorry if I'm a mess, but I'm part of the base, and I'm here for you guys too. My name is Samantha Catherine." She started trying to shake hands with everyone at once. "You can all call me Sammy Cat if you want. I'm not part of the military or anything, so it's good to be a little informal, let down your inhibitions, y'know?"
She focused for a moment on the new arrivals. Dan, Darren, Giselle, etc. "Hi! Are you new here? We'll have to get to know each other... y'know, if that's your thing. Or if it's not that's cool too. I don't want to pressure anyone, I just think it's easier for all of you if you take some time to relax a bit, right? I hope I can make you comfortable with me so we can enjoy our time together." This woman was clearly trying to put on a winning, yet semi-professional smile as she introduced herself as April fell back and watched the scene play out. "So what are your names?"

"Giselle Jaeger." Giselle began, managing to hide the apprehension she felt when the woman came up virtually out of nowhere. Where's Eren? Oh right, he's with Jay and the other mechanics... She thought to herself as she shook hands with Sammy Cat.

May sighed at the sight of Samantha's outfit, shaking her hand.
"...Probably should've worn something less... revealing."

Marco frowned at April's "whore" comment, though he didn't say anything.
He nodded to the scantily clad woman, "Hey Sammy Cat how are you?" he said politely. He wasn't gonna ogle her like a piece of meat. She wasn't his type anyway. Not that anyone in the room knew that other then Sammy Cat herself.

"I bet you never thought I thought I'd make it this far, Ape? Eh?" the moderately sobered up pilot replied, jabbing a pair of finger guns their belligerent instructor's way. "At least I think I thought that."
Darren wasn't all that caught off-guard by 'Sammy Cat's bouncy introduction, and was significantly more amused by April's readily apparent hatred of the perky shrink. He took her hand lightly, smiled politely, and nodded, letting her pass through the rest of the group. His eyes had already drifted through the most obvious choices before she'd even said a word, anyways.
Besides, he was much more interested in April.
There was, after all, nothing sexier than a woman you had to salute in the morning.
"I'm Darren," Darren said. "Awesome to meet ya."

Max looked over to Sammy Cat, and then immediately down at his feet. He mumbled something, just barely audible.
Liz gave a small laugh.
"I'm Liz Duvall, and that's Max Crosser. Nice to meet you, Sammy Cat. Uhm... what's your job, exactly?"

Sammy Cat seemed intent on keeping her momentum going, rather than admitting that she'd been forced to rush out of a party on her day off when she heard that today was the day April had scheduled to give the new arrivals a tour. To the point that she hadn't even been able to change her cloths from her flirty clubbing outfit.
"Good to meet you Giselle... or do you prefer Miss Jaeger? Pilot Jaeger?"
"Probably should have changed, but I almost didn't get to see you at all, so better to show up as is instead of not at all, right May?"
"I'm doing great Marco, hope all the new people can be our friends too."
"Awesome to meet you too Darren!"
"Hi there Liz, aw, Max, are you a bit shy? That's okay, but we could work on that you know..."
All of the above fired off rapid fire as she continued to force herself forward. Then she caught Liz's last question. "Oh! I'm the base psychiatrist. I'm here to make you all more comfortable with your job, and if something is bothering you, or you just want to talk, I'm here to listen, give you what advice I can, y'know, basic mental health. I want all of you to be comfortable and relaxed, and I know your job is very stressful, so I volunteer up here at the base. Why? What did you think my job was?" That last bit she just blurted out, and her face slowly started draining of color as she realized what the answer probably was.

Sammy Cat's face made a very awkward attempt at both going pale, and blushing bright red. To her credit though she gave them all a smile. "Very nice to meet you all. I'll be seeing you later, my office is always open for all of you."
And with that she beat a hasty retreat, possibly to go cry in the bathroom for a bit out of embarrassment. April at least looked rather pleased with this turn of events.

"'Miss Jaeger' will do, I'm sure." Her only (outward) response to the revelation of being introduced to the base's psychiatrist was raising an eyebrow. On the inside, Giselle was already promising herself that she would NEVER seek out Sammy Cat's services.

"I have no room to judge her for what she's wearing. I'm wearing a pilot suit thats skin tight, everywhere. Why couldn't we change again Miss Anderson?"
" And is our tour almost over?" Marco added after a moment He really wanted to relax now... maybe get to know the newbies.

Giselle walked over to April. "Miss Anderson, as you probably already know, I am married and therefore I'll be sharing a room with Eren." She kept her voice low, not wanting the other pilots to overhear.

"Of course you are dear." April said with a sour look. "And we simply must keep your little boy toy close so he can get help you make babies, right?" Her tone was easily loud enough the others could hear. "No worries dear. You two can have a room to yourself. Unless of course you want more company... but you'll have to ask someone else about that. I don't approve of that sort of thing."

"Its all cool, Max. I'm the same way." Marco said laughing. "I think we'll-"
He overheard April and frowned, "Why do you care so much about her personal shit?"
This was one reason he hadn't come out yet. He knew April would sneer that same way toward him if he let it slip he was gay.

Giselle did not take kindly to humiliation and even less to April's degrading remarks about Eren. "Lucky for you that I don't care for that myself then." With that, Giselle excused herself to check out the dorm rooms.

Carefully allowing his mechanized suit to maneuver around obstacles and trace the general outline of their intended path, listening to the boy over the communications. As they passed the farmers in their up-armored utility vehicles, he waved. It was a giant twist of mechanism that creaked and whirred, casting a shadow over the workers before he returned the hand to the under-barrel of his rifle to steady it.
He watched the scenery go by, almost frightened by the fact that from his view-point he could see almost everything. It was almost picturesque, a moment he wished he was able to get his camera out and capture for everyone underground to see. The coastline was always his favorite.
"I-... Is that four years with the military?" He asked again, trying to keep the flow of the chatter going to keep each-other occupied. He looked at the water warily as they did. As beautiful as it was, monsters could spring up from it at any moment. In-fact, anywhere was their playground.

"Imma gonna still live with Daddy." Patty told April as she left to allow the others their time to get settled in.
"Fine." April replied. She did her best not to backhand the little girl that was skipping around. April felt she needed a drink at this point.
"We live by the hangar already, an' I need to get to my mecha as fast as possible next time, an..." April was already gaining distance, so Patty decided to skip over to the rest and see what they were doing. There were a few of the Pilots she didn't know.
Or maybe look for a sandwich...
