The winter night was cold one, with a shivering cold breeze filling the air of the Elven city of Aseril as the sun set in the distance. The streets were bustling, surprisingly enough at this hour, as people of all walks of life went about their business in the city streets. The sound of merchants and consumers haggling prices carried itself into to the city's local inn.
An Elvish woman with blond hair sat at a small table near the door, staring at it with baited breath. She was told by her church that she'd be meeting... people soon enough, and that they would be carrying the same form of emerald that was in her broach to identify them to her.

Some time would pass before the door to the inn swung open once more. In through the sleet, in through the frost, came a tall figure, blanketed, at first, in shadows. He lingered there for a moment, icy blue eyes scoping out the maiden from the darkness.
It would perhaps be easy to say that she, however, wouldn't notice him more than she had noticed any of the other patrons of the inn coming in; that is, however, until the figure moved out of the shadows to sit several seats down from her at the table.
He didn't look nearly as frightening as he had in the darkness- cold, heavily-lidded and baggy blue eyes, yes, with frail, limp whitened curls resting against his face; his shoulders drooped, his armor making it look even greater of a dip than it may have been, but his head was lifted, and beneath a pale complexion a smile played out against frost-bitten lips. Her eyes, however, may have gone immediately to the bit of emerald dripping from a chain on his neck.
"I assume you're Aleyn," he stated, rather than questioned, his eyes looking tired as he motioned for one of the nearby attendees to get him 'anything.' "Though please correct me if I'm wrong. I've been hired to be among your party."

The door swung open once more and one of the dragonborn came in. Blue all over, and wearing almost nothing, the creature had it's limbs wrapped about itself and shaking, shivering from the cold. It closed the door behind itself immediately, it's gender quite indeterminate, and reptilian eyes looked around the room. It immediately noticed the fire and went straight for that source of heat, stalking over on clawed feet to warm itself with a hiss.
When confronted the creature replied with a muttered answer, saying that it did not seek food nor lodgings nor drink, just to warm itself by the fire. The blue scales showed many tones, smoother creamier colors on the underbelly and down the inner arms and palms, while the back had dark blue splotchy stripes. It seemed to wear no clothing, nor have any identifiable sexual characteristics. This was, after all, a lizard person.
Taking a position where it would not be in the way near the warmth of the hearth, clawed hands rubbed one another to promote circulation and heat flow through the body. Only then did it start to study the rest of the room intently, as though looking for someone... or something.

Some minutes later, the door opened once again, this time to admit a wary Drow girl with a mandoling slung behind her back. Briefly, she took in the three occupants, then made her way to the fire, deciding to stand not far from the dragonborn.

Clutching her heavy satchel close to her frame, bunching her heavy winter coat lined with fur to shield her from the sheer wind that blew her hair away when her hood tumbled from her head. She attempted to remain inconspicuous, albeit both her frame and face gave her away.
Stepping into the inn, she spotted the hearth immediately, albeit the reptilian figure 'guarding' the hearth set her unjustified anxiety on edge. It was wrong of her, as her practices taught, to deny anyone based on race or creed, but her mind kept it in the fore front as she stepped forward to warm herself. An attendant came over and a gentle hand laid a single coin in their hand to bring her a single bread roll.
Her mind pushed the cold away to remember her initial mission, fingers tracing her emerald broach as she spotted a girl, similar to her own. She must have been the one so revered. Miri was lucky to have even been graced by the girl, let alone to journey and support her. All of her teachings culminated in this girl in-front of her.
"M-Miss..." Miri said, her voice barely rising. She pushed her locks of hair away, a gentle smile creeping up onto her face. "W-... uhm... you're the one, right? T-... The Maiden?"

And yet again the door swung open as two halflings or humans, came in, a male and a female.
"Seneca..." the female whined, "I thought we were going to be leaving the city soon."
"We are... We are..." Seneca grumbled. It was obvious he was on his last nerves from having to interact with the girl, "We gotta meet the client, Sephora."
He approached Miri and Aleyn, finding himself fidgeting with a decoration on a nearby table, "Are one of you the Maiden?" he asked.

"I assume you're Aleyn," he stated, rather than questioned, his eyes looking tired as he motioned for one of the nearby attendees to get him 'anything.' "Though please correct me if I'm wrong. I've been hired to be among your party." "Yes, that is I. May I ask who you " The Elvish maiden nodded, her eyes showing that she rather shocked. After all, Lunath was around her age, sent by the Church of the White Queen to protect her on her quest. Either they are banking on her death, or this man was quite talented at whatever it was he did. And judging by how a worker scowled at his gestures as she ran off to grab the man a drink, perhaps his skill was getting people to dislike him. "M-Miss..." Miri said, her voice barely rising. She pushed her locks of hair away, a gentle smile creeping up onto her face. "W-... uhm... you're the one, right? T-... The Maiden?" The second newcomer came to a surprise to the Wish Maiden as much as Lunath did. And judging by her wardrobe, this newcomer was a cleric from the church. Trying, and failing, to mask this surprise- again finding someone relatively close to her age, or someone who aged marvelously, on this blessed mission- Aleyn nodded with a small smile of her own. Seneca approached Miri and Aleyn, finding himself fidgeting with a decoration on a nearby table, "Are one of you the Maiden?" he asked. It was at this point, with the approach of a third to the table Aleyn sat at she came to two conclusions- the church should've warned her of the personalities she'd meet and that it was uncanny how fast these people assembled. Perhaps these people were dead serious about this job? Or perhaps the gods were lazy, and aligned the Fates for them all to meet in the span of five minutes. "I... yes?" The woman replied, making her awkwardness around people even more apparent. Judging by how the girl reacted to these people, at least someone in the inn thought that it wouldn't have killed the church to give their messiah more social interaction as a child.

He gave a soft sigh as the server passed a glare, and looked towards all of the others who entered, all wearing the emerald in some way on their persons - he was surprised that they had all come so quickly. Of course, the interactions of a few caused him to crack a smile before looking back towards the Maiden to answer her question. He extended a hand.
"Sir Lunath Damayla Amiel Stardreamer, of Nahmel's Lerem - small town, it's alright if you haven't heard of it. Knight of the Majesty."

"You are." Miri said, her voice hushed into an astounded whisper as she looked at the girl, so close to her age yet so above her position. This girl was the culmination of every teaching she had ever been given, years of devout testament given a manifest destiny right in front of her eyes. "The Maiden."
"I-I'm Miri, your gra-... Aleyn." She said, hands shaking as she held the bread roll close to her chest, shuddering before she looked at the woman. "Can... can we get you anything, Aleyn? Food? Water? Anything?"
It was obvious in her tone that Miri was more than nervous, barely making eye contact with anyone save Aleyn when addressed. You could feel the star struck empathy peeling off of her.

"No, thank you. I'm fine." Aleyn hardly noticed Lunath's reply, being a tad bit more interested in talking with Miri. Not to say that she didn't hear it- she was just less socially awkward when discussing the church. "Haven't I seen you at the church, actually? You have a familiar face, at least."
At this point Lunath found that the worker had brought him a large bottle of the worst whine the inn had, slamming it down to the table. One could see how bad the wine was just by... glancing at it as it bubbled in its bottle. "That'd be four silver." The woman said flatly.

Nodding, Miri lowered her head in respect at the figure, so revered by her convent throughout all of her teachings. She was almost a God made manifest, a lucky thing for Miri to even witness, let alone take part in. She felt a hair stray from her face, going to catch it with her hand.
In her anxiety, however, she clasped the bread into her forehead, causing her to stagger a bit and sigh.
"Hnng-.. uhm... I-I'm not sure, Maiden." She said, head still kept at a bow. "W-... I attended the Church of the White Queen, your grace."

He looked up, smiling at the server despite knowing the wine was bad and knowing that she was purposely being rude.
"Ah, I would have thought it would be five..." He handed her a small stack of silver coins. "Keep the change." He looked back towards the maiden and the girl - Miri, he heard - who seemed rather giddy about all this, and watched them contently.
He didn't however open the bottle.

"My name is Seneca Demis," Seneca said matter of factly to Aleyn, as he absent mindedly pocketed the trinket he was fidgeting with.
Sephora smacked his hand, "You're doing it again Senny."
"I told you not to call me that in public," Seneca said, "And doing what?"
" Stealing. Put it back."
"Oh..." Seneca said,
Sephora turned to Aleyn, "Sorry Maiden, we think he has kleptomania. We don't have enough money to get him formally diagosed though. I'm Sephora by the way, his sister." She held out a friendly hand to the other blonde girl.

"My name is Seneca Demis," Seneca said matter of factly to Aleyn, as he absent mindedly pocketed the trinket he was fidgeting with. Sephora smacked his hand, "You're doing it again Senny." The cleric looked over to Sephora as she chastised the human boy, awkwardly jutting out her hand to shake the girl's. She wasn't really used to the sight of humans either, really. Perhaps even moreso than the world outside of the church in general.

Attempting to carefully balance the items in her hand, coupled with the heavy, for her, pack settled across her back carrying her workload, supplies and medicine. She turned with a grunt and grasped their newest acquaintance's hand with a delicate hand, shaking and smiling.
"Miri." She said. She was wary of the pair, obviously, most likely due to their thieving nature, worried about her pack being given an unnecessary once over. "I-I'm a healer from the Church."
"O-Oh." Miri continued, turning to face the Maiden respectfully. "I-I've heard, your Grace. I-... I know so much about you... and what you mean for all of us."
In an almost exaggerated manner, the door suddenly flew open with a heavy pushed reinforced by a golden, plated hand that soon followed through to reveal the frame of a hulking man. Large sword sheathed, hung over one shoulder, massive pack pulled over himself, combined with the heavy book, larger than Miri's entire upper half, in one hand, held by an iron chain.
With resounding footsteps that held more dread than anything, he took a straight line to the assembled group. Save for the emerald adorned chain around his neck, one might have worried more for the safety of the Maiden.
Throwing his pack on the floor at Miri's feet, causing her to jump, he let his sword arm go loose, one hand pulling the hood from his head as to allow him to pull his helmet from his face, revealing the grizzled man underneath. He could have been attractive, if one liked scars.
"Are you the Maiden?" He said, almost in a demanding tone as he looked at Aleyn. "Are you?"

Sephora gasped as she saw the scarred man, "Seneca its another one of us!"
She walked up to him a bit oblivious to his obviously hostile demeanor, "Hi! Not very often I meet another human." she said gleefully.

With the full force of his entire body in motion, Alex turned his entire frame to face this excitable young girl. His intelligent brown eyes scanned her as he scooped to her level to stare her in the eyes.
"What do you want, pup?" He said, whispered with a bite that spoke of barely bridled annoyance and contempt. "Why do you, dear pup, disturb my fucking space?"

"I... I'm sorry, I've never met a human that wasn't my brother before. I just got a little excited," Sephora said, letting out a small whimper and averting her eyes.
"Leave her alone," Seneca said softly.

"There is no time for your pathetic questions." He continued, before he stood up to full height and stretched out. "Get out of my face, errant pup."
When the voice of a secondary assailant caught Kitter's ears, he turned on a heel. The massive frame creaked with the weight of his armor, most likely heavier than the Human in-front of the Paladin. He took two massive steps to close the distance.
"Speak louder." He started. "Or find your throat ripped from fucking neck."

"What the fuck did you just say, you pathetic little mutt!?" He bellowed, before an almost unnaturally quick reaction shot up causing him to clasp his hand around the boy's throat, attempting to lift him. "You are the fucks that bring our name to shame!"
"You do not raise your fucking voice to me again, runt." He continued, squeezing. "Ever."
"T-... That's enough, please!" Miri pleaded, her voice going quiet immediately after she said. Alex turned his head to look at her. "Please?"
"Fuck off, prick ears." He responded, before he discarded Seneca to the ground. "Understood?"

Seneca's gold eyes widened in fear as the older human began choking him, he struggled to unclasp the hands around his throat, and tears began welling in his eyes as the need for air worsened.
"SENECA!" Sephora shrieked. "Let him go please!"
When Kitter released Seneca, Sephora rushed to him, "Are you okay?"
Seneca was just a coughing mess sprawled on the floor
"We can always turn back and go home." Sephora said
"No... no we can't" Seneca said. "We're sticking this out."

Rushing over after gently placing her pack on the ground, Miri stood by the assaulted man's side, concern evident on her face as she attempted to get a look at his neck.
"Please... let me see." She said, looking at the man and smiling sweetly. "Are you okay?'
"You won't survive this fucking journey." Kitter continued with his argument. "That's one more stain upon our people put to death."

"Ah, thank you, Sister." Aleyn was primarily focused conversing with the other Cleric as Alex had arrived. Of course, being as oblivious as she is when focused on something, she had been completely ignorant of the Paladin's approach to the table.
That is, until she heard the halfbred Rogue's choking by this new comer. Turning her attention promptly, she saw Miri attempting to stop the Batrielian human from choking the younger man, as well as helping said younger man up.
Her heart began beating even faster in a panic. The Maiden hadn't been exposed to such violence- always being sheltered, always being taught to avoid such events. Needless to say, she was rather afraid of the man already.
"P-please avoid such acts, Ser." She muttered lowly, her tone carrying fright. She wasn't even sure if he was a Sir or Ser, or whatever paladins called themselves, for that matter.

The commotion had happened too fast for much to be done about it, but by the end, as Alexander Kitter was talking about how Seneca wouldn't last the journey, he would suddenly find a sword somewhat close to his own neck.
"You will refrain from such brutalities in the future. These are your teammates, and you are to treat them with the utmost respect that you would show miss Aleyn herself. Your fight is not with any of us - don't make it so."
The sword was removed, though not replaced in its scabbard just yet - Lunath was a cautious sort, and this man was a violent sort.

"Do not shed tears, Chosen Child." The disgruntled Paladin rumbled from the very depth of his core, a deep bellow originating in the depth of his being and resonating from his throat through gritted teeth. "You are too valuable in life to be put to sword for the sins of your father."
Turning to swing his longsword over his shoulder, as to support the massive blade's gigantic frame, he felt the bitter edge of a blade against his throat. He stood unnerving, angling his head to glare at the man. It was discerning how much venom he could spit with his eyes alone.
"Put your fucking sword away, prick-ears." He warned. "Or find it firmly shoved up your fucking hole."
As the situation turned to a calmer aspect, he embedded his gigantic blade into the ground to lean onto with a straight, imperial stature.
"Lay another hand on me again and find yourself impaled on my fucking blade." He warned. "We are allies for this journey, only to protect The Maiden. You think anything else, I will personally skull fuck you and your entire fucking family. Got that? Cunt."

Vsti watched as the paladin took to violence against the other... well who could judge, human or elf really? They were all so similar.
The sight of drawn steel however drew a hiss from Vsti's reptilian lips. This looked to be the makings of a tavern brawl. Something Vsti wanted no part of.

He looked over at Alexander, "We'll see who fucking survives longer, asshole. I'm stronger then I look."
"I'm sorry Senny, its my fault,' Sephora said,
"No its okay." He lookd back at Kitter, " How can you hate elves, your mother or father was one. I could never hate my own mother."

"Please, sir. Just... take it easy." She said, her hands gently outlining the curvature of the man's neck, looking for any bruising and pushing on certain areas to gather a response, her intelligent eyes looking up to spot a reaction. "He might have crushed something. Take it easy."
"Mind your own fucking life, runt. Don't pry into mine." He warned. "I am very, very, very sensitive about my history. I might just get insulted at any inquiries and, well... we all know what will happen next."
