Returning to her tent, Miri dragged her pack into the central area around the fire where they had all been drawn to for the meal. Picking her dress up and scooping it up to her knees to sit delicately on a nearby log that she had been using earlier with practiced, lady-like grace, Miri created an improvised rack to hang a pot from her pack on while she poured water from her canteen into the pot, allowing it to boil.
Throwing ingredients from her pack into the pot, she used the handle of a shovel on the side of her pack to stir it before she let it sit. After a moment, she took several makeshift bowls, one never the same size as the other, and handed them to the group.
Kitter took his one with a heavy grab, spilling some boiling hot water on himself in the process with barely a care. He returned to maintaining his blade.
Sitting away from the large Paladin on the other side of the fire with the twins, Miri handed them their bowls carefully, lingering on Seneca for a moment before she sat next to Sephora. She quickly took two slices of heavy, hard-tack bread, handing it to them. The Paladin didn't seem to care either way for it, only focusing on his blade.
"Has anyone seen that Knight?" She asked. "I-... I made enough for him. I wonder where he is."

Vsti banished the farsight spell that was letting the dragonborn spy in the Maidens party. They were camped for the night, not too far away from where Vsti had made a temporary nest in the boughs of a large tree.
It wasn't much of a party. Three humans, some elves... was this what the world was coming to? No representation from the dwarves at all, and Vsti knew what the Dragonborn thought of this. Perhaps a bad omen, that the Maiden who would be ushered by the paragons of all the major races was now dealing with this little band of misfits. Some would say that it meant a fall from grace for those who did not participate. Most didn't believe in such superstitions.
Vsti wasn't sure what part to believe. Belief was not something that came easily to Vsti any more.
A hardened ration was chewed on, and a few sips from a waterskin were taken before it was time to meditate for the evening.

The knight had, yes, disappeared by now from the party, into the shadows cast by trees, beyond the paths - following the sound of running water into the distance.
A small creek ran through this area, he knew that much. It didn't take him long to find it, either, and still hear the party in the distance. As he came into sight of the creek, a soft, wistful smile came to his features. He leaned against a tree, and stared out along the banks of the shores. Across the creek, a white kerchief stood out against the muddy grass, its contents long ago having turned to dust.
"Ah, still there..." He sighed, sinking against the tree to the ground. In his hands was a small leather book, with a silken ribbon wrapped around the covers. He unwrapped it, opening it to pull out a pencil from deeper within. "It's good to see you again, my friend."

The Maiden sat quietly, huddled in her tent with a tome. The only light in the tent was the gentle illumination of candle. She sat there, quietly, as she glanced at the yellowing pages of the leather-bound book. The book was quite known across the mainland for gathering various tales from the Second Age.
Aleyn's sight fell on the text, reading the rather dated Common text in the current story. The story was focused quite a bit on the exploits of a paladin warrior during the War of the Heavens.
[...]And thusly, the Paladin drew his blade, the magic of his sword radiated an emerald green. He strove forward, leaping into the sky to slay the giant minotaur burdening his people. His helmet's bleached white, skull-like face glared at the creature as the blade swung down,, slicing off the beast's right horn in one swoop. Woutel's beast growled in surprise and pain, it's attention focused directly on the King. [...] --- A rustling was heard not too far off from the camp, deeper into the forest. The rustling was far too large to be an animal, and the barrier closing off Otzam laid in the opposite direction, towards the west. Far off laughter and conversation could be heard, as well as the distinct sound of cheap armor being tossed around.
The travelers most definitely knew that the thief band wasn't to far off from them. Lunath would find they weren't too far off from him either, as the laughter of one grew closer and closer to his spot.

Too preoccupied to associate the distant noises with anything other than scurrying critters and rustling leaves in the wind, Miri remained with the twins, eating her food quietly and making sure not to disturb the brooding Paladin across from them.
However, accustomed to such incursions, Kitter stood up, leaning on his blade. Throwing the whetstone to the ground, Kitter looked at the others.
"Get the Maiden." He ordered, to any of the three. Miri put her soup gently next to her and ran off to go grab the Maiden from her tent. "Runts, listen."
He swung his blade over his shoulder, the edge of it digging into his bare flesh.
"Maiden... Maiden..." Miri said quietly, skulking as she went to the girl's tent. "Are you alright? The Paladin said to come get you."

The laughing and clinking reached the night. He quickly looked up, clapping the book shut and sticking it into his armor, drawing forth his sword and sneaking behind the trees to check. He didn't see them, but he knew that they couldn't be far off.
It was no use staying here, there must have been at least three in whatever group was coming. He wound back along the pathway to the clearing as quickly as he could, locking eyes with Kitter. They had heard it too.

The dragonborns fin like protrusions on the side of the head twitched as the sounds a rather noisy camp being made. It had to be a larger group than the one the mage was following, but unfortunately, while not on a direct route, it was still closer to the chosen sleeping tree than the party of the Maiden.
Vsti breathed an annoyed breath and considered climbing down. Dragonborn didn't even nest in trees normally, despite being able enough climbers. No, abandoning this campsite wouldn't necessarily help anything yet. Instead the meditation was returned to, extending mage sight once more to investigate the noisy neighbors.

Sephora ran after Miri, "Is she okay?" Sephora said, "Maiden, please are you all right?"
Meanwhile Seneca sat frozen, and stared at the hulking Paladin, shaking a little bit in fear. It was after all his turn for watch, and he had been flirting with Miri instead of watching out for the Maiden.
"I..I'm sorry, don't hurt me." he begged.

"I'm not sure." Miri said, rather nervously, as she soon took off into a full-sprint to get to the Maiden's tent, hiking up her dress so as not to stagger over herself while navigating the rocks and holes in her path as she sprinted to the tent. "Maiden!"
Walking up to the Human, the Ironclad Paladin wrapped his hand around his throat, glaring into his eyes and very soul, gritting his teeth.
"Pick. Up. A. Fucking. Weapon." He said, shoving the man away after allowing him to breathe. "And go after your sister. Make sure the Maiden is safe."
With that, Kitter went to approach the sounds, blade hefted over his shoulder, digging into his flesh, albeit the Paladin didn't seem concerned. He walked tall, chest out. This was his natural state, adrenaline through his veins.
Pure and aggressive. He was at the bend before the break, something akin to a nightmare. With his armor on, one could see him snapping earlier and tearing the forest apart in his effort to look for something to tear apart with his fingers and slaughter in Righteous Fury.

Seneca made a stange squealing noise as Kitter reached for his throat, and as soon as he was released he began breating heavily.
"Yes, I...' Seneca quickly unsheathed his daggers, "Are these enough of a weapon?"

[...]The emerald blade withdrew from the neck of the beast, gore splashing the boots of King Atzom's armor. The beast gave a final gurgle as it died. The warrior king stepped down from carcass of the daemon as it slumped to the floor.
The king turned his attention to his companions as they came out of hiding, particularly noting the priestess. "Perhaps we are to head to the realm of fae, Lady Alexandra." [...]
This shout from the Elvish Cleric snapped Aleyn's focus on the tome, who turned her head in confusion. "Yes?" She asked Miri, evidently not having heard the thieves' racket. "What's wrong?"

"You tell me, runt." Kitter said, in reference to his weaponry before he walked into the brush, still walking tall in an effort to peak over. He wasn't one for stealth and needed a clear view point of where these men were. "Go protect the Maiden."
"Come here, you cunts!" The paladin called out, pushing aside brush with his heavy frame, holding his blade. "Skulking in the night like fucking cowards!"
"I think it would be wise, young Maiden," Miri started, occasionally peering around to make sure that they were safe. "That we get somewhere safe, with someone who has weapons or training. A precaution, of course. We just want to make sure."
Holding her hand out, Miri smiled kindly and affectionately, flashing her intelligent eyes at the girl.
"Come. Bring the book. You can read by the fire." She continued, attempting to keep the girl calm. She was conditioned to this sort of thing, having campaigned among the men as a field surgeon. To panic now would put them all at risk. "I've made some food for you. Come along, Maiden."

Upon returning, Miri and the Maiden would both find that the fire was larger, and the shadows more pushed back - as, seeing that they had some form of time before the bandit party would get here, Lunath had built it up more to see better with.
"Everyone, stand at ready. They're quieter now - they might try to attack us from more than one side. Be on your guard, and whatever you do, protect The Maiden at all cost."

The cackling of the thieves' party was echoing still, in the middle of the forest. Kitter would notice that the sound of the laughter and clanging of cheap armor grew louder before a sudden silence. Moments would pass before he found the band's camp for the night, hastily abandoned. It seemed that the thieves had scattered about the forest when they heard him, leaving behind the loot of the day and the meat of an elk over the fire.
"Oi, cunt." He would hear above him. An arrow was shot at the paladin's foot. There was another arrow fired by him. And another. And another. All from different directions. He was facing at least three archers- likely more. "What d'ya want?"
---
The Maiden's companions would hear the sound of laughter growing closer as the shadow of the thieves danced about. There were at least a dozen other thieves, beyond the ones Kitter was currently handling. They rested just outside the fire's glow.

"You make me fucking sick, you know that?" Kitter said, turning to look at the arrows embedded in the ground near his feet in disgust. Making a show of slinging his blade over his shoulder, Kitter choked up a wad of phlegm and spit, launching it in the general direction of the archers. "We'll see."
With a turn, Kitter took of towards the light once more, his powerful legs launching him quickly out of the range of the archers. He made sure to stay as close to the trees as possible, making sure he had cover. His blade barely seemed to weigh him down, an extension of his own body.
Able to hear the laughter and the clang of armor, Kitter saw a shadow - a silhouette of a man - in his way. His heavy footsteps made no mention of stealth and the man turned to face him. That was his first mistake.
Going shoulder first, Kitter put all of his weight into the blow. The impact sent the man staggering back, with Kitter following his trajectory. He scrambled to his feet.
A wasted effort.
With a swing, Kitter flung his blade off his shoulder. It carved a half-circle in-front of him before Kitter got a handle on the blade, keeping it steady.
Whimpering, the man's torso promptly slid off of his body by the waist, his intestines spooling out of his body as Kitter claimed first blood, resting his blade on his shoulder once more.
"Are there any others!?" He called out, making shadows and faces. "Come next, he who wishes to find cock parted from body!"
"M-Maiden, we have to go..." Miri said, the calm demeanor in her voice giving way to urgency. She gripped the Maiden's hand and pulled her along quickly, attempting to get towards the fire pit. "Kitter! Seneca! Lunath! Help!"

All the lack of subtle activity annoyed Vsti. This clearly wasn't a bandit attack. The broadcasting of their position beforehand pointed to that. No, this was Kitter, single handedly deciding to attack fifteen, probably more the mage sight wasn't clear on that matter, brigands and killers who knew the territory and were better armed and prepared to fight in it.
The bandits had done what was smart, they had divided their forces as soon as they knew there was an enemy force attacking them. A delaying force was left for Kitter, mostly archers but some others hidden in the trees as well. Try to scare him off with a few warning shots, keep their camp secure. Meanwhile, circle around and ambush his support team with overwhelming force. Take them out, and let deal with Kitter, the only one that's proven to be a threat so far, at their leisure.
Vsti growled softly as a spell was cast. The dragonborn didn't know if a sudden blizzard would slow and blind these mammals as much as it would fellow dragonborn, and there was an even stronger possiblity that there wasn't enough power or materials in the sky to make a blizzard. A chill wind might be the best that could be done. A pity something better couldn't be used, but there were only so many spells Vsti had learned. A number of them worthless.
Well, combining the distraction with a few well timed and hopefully well placed Mage Steps, it might be enough to save the Maiden from Kitter putting a knife to her throat, metaphorically speaking.

The thieves- or whatever it was they'd call themselves- stopped suddenly as Kitter took one of them down. Before anyone could act, and as Miri pulled the Maiden closer by the fire, a dreadfully cold breeze shot through the camp. The fire flickered out ever so slightly- fanning the flames out just a bit, but enough to hide a few of the thieves from view.
Kitter would notice that three of the bandits suddenly seized and fell over in shock, their dragonborn lineage letting them down. This dwindled the figures down to nine, perhaps ten. One of the figures abruptly moved forward to the camp.
The man was tanned and had heavily built musculature that seemed to have shown he survived in the military at one point. They would notice, as he stepped closer in the camp's fire, that he had a hostage- pinned to him with his arm, and with a knife ever-so-slightly in front of her neck. The woman was human, with skin as tanned as his, wore what appeared to be a rather elegant dress- indicating that she was either royalty or nobility kidnapped in a trip.
"Easy now." He spoke calmly and coldly, keeping control of the situation. "Put the weapons down, or the bitch gets it."

Occasionally, Miri would drag the Maiden closer to the light source emanating from the campfire and, by proxy, closer to the two armed men who were protecting the group. She made sure to keep one arm wrapped around the Maiden so that she didn't run off or get separated.
"Just... stay with me, alright?" Miri said, faking a smile to calm the girl as she kept watch on the edge of the camp to make sure none of them made a move. "Make sure you stick with Kitter, okay?"
She turned the Maiden to make sure that she was flanked on one side by the fire, while Miri, Seneca and Kitter formed a boundary around her. The Cleric watched quietly as the events unfolded, staring at the hostage girl in shock.
"Kill her." Kitter said, blade still held over his shoulder. He looked the Human girl up and down, glaring at the large man. "Kill her and find your cock separated from body. All of your men."
"You enjoy fucking young women?" He continued. "Drop the girl and fuck off back into the night, or I'll sever your cock from your body and fuck you bloody with it."

Sword still in hand, Lunath moved further in front of the Maiden, Miri, and Sephora. He glanced between the man and the girl, attempting to figure out just what was going on.
"Please," the girl suddenly blurted out a plea, glancing between them all, "Do whatever he asks!"
...Something wasn't quite right with that, he thought. Perhaps the way the girl was hastily glancing between everyone and up at the man, or the way she wasn't even cuffed... but beyond that, there was nothing he could figure out to alert the others to the fishiness of this subject. To them, they would just see an aristocratic woman scared for her life.
"What is it you want?" Lunath asked mostly to himself, glancing into the new-found shadows behind the man at his party. "You're obviously a band of thieves, given by the amount of loot you have dragging behind you... I doubt you'd like to actually kill anyone. Thieves seldom do. Fight, perhaps. Kill, no. But then... why would you have a hostage? Unless..."

"Oh fuck!" Seneca said as he saw the bandits. He looked into the eyes of the poor girl, and slipped his weapons back into their holsters. Sephora just whimpered a little, she didn't even have a weapon to drop she had left her staff by her sleeping area. "I said put your weapons down, you mutt." The thief barked to Seneca, drawing the knife closer to his hostage's throat. "Do you want to see this cunt die?" "Kill her." Kitter said, blade still held over his shoulder. He looked the Human girl up and down, glaring at the large man. "Kill her and find your cock separated from body. All of your men." "You enjoy fucking young women?" He continued. "Drop the girl and fuck off back into the night, or I'll sever your cock from your body and fuck you bloody with it." "Funny how you're one to make threats, Lord Kitter." That cemented where the thief came from- he was, at the very least, from one of the several kingdoms that formed Batriel. The question was, however, which one? From his features, he was likely from one of the Island Kingdoms- areas scattered about the Great Sea that divided the Mainlands and Etelm. Meaning, in all likeliness, he was a damned elf. "You're out numbered, a good two to one- much more if any others show up out of the woodwork. And all you have is that cursed blade." The man spoke, calmly and carefully. "You'd be able to mow us down, perhaps, if it weren't for your biggest folly." The thieves' leader barked an order in a strange tongue- perhaps some sort of code they had devised? It hadn't mattered much, as Kitter would find one of the roving thieves, just outside the party's sight, shoot an arrow into his shoulder. "Set down the damn sword." What is it you want?" Lunath asked mostly to himself, glancing into the new-found shadows behind the man at his party. "You're obviously a band of thieves, given by the amount of loot you have dragging behind you... I doubt you'd like to actually kill anyone. Thieves seldom do. Fight, perhaps. Kill, no. But then... why would you have a hostage? Unless..." "What I want is for you to set down you fucking sword and we can talk from there." The man said, noticeably nudging the hostage in the back for some reason. "I'd rather like to keep her alive- could get a good fuck or two outta her. But if the she dies, she dies!"

"You put your fucking weapons on the ground and I'm going to make you beg for the sweet release of death, runt." Kitter warned, staring side-long at the boy as he put his weapons on the ground, biting his lip in fuming anger as he returned to face the Bandit's supposed 'Leader' and their 'Hostage'. "Want to see how I earned my fucking title, cunt?"
He was a smart and intellectual man. He knew something was up with the whole situation, given how the woman was given a free range of motion and seemed to be playing along with his suggestions.
When the arrow was let free by one of the Bandits, he had some commendable aim that would make any General put him up for laurels and medals. It impacted neatly into Kitter's shoulder, through one-side and out the other. The arrow stuck and Kitter staggered back slightly onto one foot.
Giving no external recognition of pain other than a release of breath, Kitter stared at the men as he gave his arm an experimental test of its current range of motion.
"Elf-girl." Kitter commanded, still keeping eye contact. Reluctantly leaving The Maiden, Miri rushed over and began to inspect the wound. "Fix it. Now."
Working under pressure, she kept staring between the Bandits, The Maiden and The Paladin's wound. It was disturbing, really, how well the Paladin took the pain as the woman snapped off the head of the arrow as well as the shaft so she could pull the rest out and begin healing it.
"You want to talk? Talk." The half-naked Paladin commanded. "If not, rush me and see how many of your Men will find their death before I find mine."

The Maiden was alone, by the fire, surrounded by the enemy.
One mage step to bring Vsti beside the Maiden. One to take them both away.
The cold winds blowing didn't inhibit Vsti, the chilling magic not having been cast if Vsti themselves were not at least highly resistant to the effects. A lack of snow was a disappointment, but not a fatal one. The fact that it had incapacitated, or at least inconvenienced, some of the bandits due to their dragonborn heritage was a surprise. Bandits were not, traditionally picky about who they let join... but for this group to be so multi-racial was also not common. Bandits had a territory, as did each race, and usually only recruited from their own territory.
One mage step to bring Vsti beside the Maiden. One to take them both away.
A blast of wind to the fire first would distract any eyes that were on the Maiden. There was a strong chance that this would warn others that there was a magery manipulating the airs, bringing the chill winds and miasma(which there would be more of if there was a suitable lake or river or moisture on the grass from dew... unfortunately it was doubtful there was enough of that to fog the air. Not at this time of day. Besides, any doubt that this was mage craft would be gone the moment a blue reptilian figure appeared from the thin air, took the Maidens hand, and they both vanished again just as swiftly.
One mage step to bring Vsti beside the Maiden. One to take them both away.
The destination point had been picked out earlier, and was a good safe distance away. More so if the Maiden could keep herself from screaming as the world suddenly shifted around her. Mage step was sometimes confusing and often disorienting, though to a mage it could be... fun. Like a dance, the slight vertigo from spinning yourself through the complicated steps and twists of the body adding to the enjoyment. The destination point was already shrouded enough that rival mage site would overlook it. Further, the large still pond offered a suitable scrying surface to allow the Maiden to watch how her companions were doing. A pity... Vsti would have liked to offer the Maiden a nice cup of hot tea while they talked, but they were well away from the inn they met at.
One mage step to bring Vsti beside the Maiden. One to take them both away.
Vsti put all the preparations in motion, making the first step...

"If you grab those blades, mutt, I swear to the gods I will slit her fucking throat!" The bandit shouted to Seneca, ignoring Kitter. "And if the bitch dies, you all fucking die!"
The winds blew again, this time fierce enough to snuff out the fire completely. The winds hadn't been
Of course, the thief's words were suddenly deafened by the startled gasp of the Maiden as a blue reptile took a mage step. The magic used in this left a odd, almost unreal 'squishing' sound of the teleportation.
Another mage step was heard then, one to take the Maiden away shrieking. A sudden stiffness took the air then, perhaps even physically so.
"...B-bloody hell!" The thief stuttered in shock with his eyes opened wide and all color drained from his face, holding a culture-based fear (and possibly reverence) of magic. He shoved his hostage forward onto the ground, turning to run into the forest.
((Kinda crappy, but oh well. You'll probably face his men shortly, at least.))
