Has anyone else seen this anime? I love this show despite the fact that it only has 12 episodes. The show is about magical shows -cliche but this one is unique because it shows that being one isn't what it all seems. Being a magical girl is basically giving your life on the line and it's very dangerous fighting witches who were once magical girls themselves. I love this anime because it takes a cliche and adds some tweaks to it. It's somewhat realistic. The lessons learned here are sign the contract before making a deal and make a wish only for yourself because if you make a wish for others, it'll ruin you in the end. There needs to be a balance between happiness and despair. Kyoko Sakura made a wish for her dad without knowing what her dad actually wanted. Sayaka made the mistake and I think she's stupider than Sakura since she made a wish for the boy who doesn't even seem to care about her AT ALL. [\spoiler]

A fine example of a deconstruction anime, Like.

A fine example of a deconstruction anime, Like. I don't know if I would call it a deconstruction though. While it does deviate a lot from the typical magical girl anime in several ways; it does still have some of the same focuses and themes (in particular the loss of innocence/growing up tropes and the strong focus on female friendship). Typically in a deconstruction anime you see common tropes being mocked or even made fun of (as in Ouran High School Host Club). JesuOtaku's review of Madoka Magica talks a bit about how this anime isn't really a deconstruction anime, but rather just an unusual approach.

Deconstructions do mean several things. For example Evangelion counts as a deconstruction even though it doesn't really mock the Mech subgenre. The deviations are stuff like "Hey you ever noticed that random creature that sits around and talks about magic powers and stuff? Yeah ever wonder where that came from?"

I love the anime since that all the characters are interesting and that the 'rules' behind it actually make sense.

^ Honestly the best part for me was - Everyone expects a superhappy magical girl anime, the show just lets you into this false sense of security and theeen...BAM! Off we go to nightmare land.(To be honest though, the moment I read that Yuki Kajiura made the OST, I was like... Well... This is definately not going to be what it looks like, Kajiura always makes epic OSTs for specific types of anime(On a side note, I saw it in the first place for the reason that Kajiura made the OST, her music is just awesome!))

I love Homura the most because she really cares that much about Madoka. She would really go back in time and time again just to prevent Madoka from dying but she couldn't prevent it.
I really hate Kyubey so much because he doesn't tell the girls about putting their souls in the Soul Gem. Then again, Kyubey (did I even spell that right?) doesn't have any emotions so there's that. He doesn't understand about having human emotions since his race doesn't feel any and it is considered insane to have some signs of emotions. Kyubey is somewhat of a deconstruction because normally when it comes to the magical girl genre, the animal is seen as the guardian to the protagonists. Think Sailor Moon and Card Captor Sakura. Whereas Kyubey is like the devil.
Madoka Magica is like 'dealing with the devil' kind except that instead of the devil, it's a cute... little thing. What crept me the fuck out is when Kyubey ate his own fucking corpse after being shot by Homura. That shit is disturbing.
I hated Kyosuke so much because of how mean he is to Sayaka. I get that he was upset because he couldn't play the violin anymore but she was always there for him when he was having a rough time. When he got healed, he didn't even tell her and just left the hospital. What an ungrateful bastard.
I don't hate Hitomi but she is just rather... weird. She also has a crush on Kyosuke knowing that Sayaka also likes him and yet she never visited him in the hospital.
Anyways, I didn't mean to ramble but there are some things in the anime that bothered me. Other than that, this anime is enjoyable. It was only 12 episodes which sucked since it was way too short.

^ Well, the one thing that really(And I mean REALLY) did bother me was - "We did so that humanity advanced and if it wasn't for us you'd still be in caves". REALLY? If it wasn't for aliens stealing the souls of little girls we'd still be primitives. I always hate it when it's stated that humans are in fact worthless and anything they ever achieved wasn't their achievment at all.... BUUUUULLLLLLLSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTT is all I got to say on this.
As for Hitomi... Well I can't say anything - we barely know anything about her in the first place. Kyosuke is kind of an ass isn't he... Oh well, if you're into nightmare land, not getting your crush is the least of your problems, I'm sure. Kyubey(I think you did in fact spell it right)... Can I please strangle it, I don't care it has millions of copies to replace itself. It gets all the more fun the more you kill these disgustingly cutesey creatures. And quite frankly, I think I really like this Soul Gem concept - power comes with the price of turning them into a living corpse... Brilliant Also - how about the thing that Madoka in the end kinda turned into Magical Girl Jesus?(Com on, I can't be the only one thinking it) Am I the only one thinking that her just dying in order to save everyone would have been a more powerful moment?

Well... she did wish that witches wouldn't exist anymore.

Yeah. She did wish for that. And that somehow got her into a higher plane of existence because.... You know I won't question it, it's not that big of a deal plus the rest of the anime was pretty awesome

Kyubey was doing what he was doing for the sake of the entire universe, though.
