If the truth be told, I'm in love with this city and I'm outta controlRepublic City. A beacon of freedom in a brave new world, four nations united under one flag. The oft-proclaimed center of everything. A city filled to the brim with people from all walks of life making their own legends, on their own journeys for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. A city full of people pursuing these pursuits by any means necessary - ruthless or otherwise. Where the firebender can stoke his own flame, the waterbender can splash in the tides of their own change, the earthbender can rise to the top from their own rubble (what do you mean, what about the airbenders? Motherfucker, you know what happened to them. Go talk to Tenzin and his snotty kids), and anyone and everyone in between can carve their own paths to fame . . . or infamy. With more sights, sounds, tastes, and element-bending martial artists than you can shake a boomerang at, there is no place quite like Republic City. Discover the history, culture, and diversity that make a booming metropolis the unofficial capital of the world, at least according to many of its residents. Explore each facet of what makes this city what it is, each with its own distinct atmosphere and personality. In Republic City, everybody's got a story. Have you found yours?
Three months after the events of the Equalist Uprising, Republic City slowly but surely recovers in its wake, returning to some sense of normalcy as the capital of the United Republic of Nations vies to recover its former glory. Much has happened since those dark times; the Republic City Council, due to its failure to 'represent the interests of the majority' (which mostly refers to its inability to prevent the Equalist Uprising in the first place), has made a final vote: to disband, and dissolve their offices of executive government in lieu of a more democratic Presidential process - the first of its kind. As the city struggles to reconstruct, tensions between benders and non-benders - as well as inter-bender struggles rearing their divisive heads again (the worst since the city's founding, some say) - boil just below the surface, and crime rates continue to climb as street gangs scramble for power and credibility. Even still, while the anti-bender Equalist movement was defeated by the Avatar, and its leader, Amon, discredited, their revolution lives on, turning to the underground and implementing less organized, more violent methods of fighting the good fight (well, their version, at least). Here's where you come in: you've found yourself in Republic City, one way or another; perhaps you've lived there your entire life, perhaps you've just hopped off the boat, looking for a fresh start. Perhaps you're a bender; perhaps you're not. Whatever path you choose to take, this is your story. CHARACTER SHEETSName: (do your best to be a little accurate to the setting, here; the Avatar world is heavily influenced by eastern culture, if you haven't noticed. Firebender names are typically Japanese-based, while earthbender names often use Chinese and other East Asian characteristics. Waterbenders are based off of the Inuit tribes.) Age:Appearance: (Picture of description) Bending: (If your character isn't, just write N/A. I'll delve into benders below.) Personality:Bio:
BENDING ARTS
There are five known bending arts; four of them (the ones you'll be using) bend a specific physical element while the fifth bends the energy within the human body itself. The four elemental bending arts are based on the four classical elements; water, earth, fire, and air, and each is manipulated through certain martial art styles which are reminiscent of the qualities of the element itself. Certain benders are able to effectively manipulate their element with minimum bodily movement, such as by using only their head. In even rarer cases, benders are able to perform their bending without the aid of any physical movement at all, by instead using sheer focus and force of will; a skill known as psychic bending. Each element is also associated with a particular nation in the world; the Water Tribe corresponds with waterbending, the Earth Kingdom with earthbending, the Fire Nation with firebending, and the Air Nomads with airbending. However, other bending affiliated groups exist, like the Foggy Swamp Tribes and the Sun Warriors. AIRBENDINGAirbending is the bending art used by the Air Nomads. It concentrates on speed and evasion, forgoing a strong offense for a versatile defense. As the element of freedom, airbenders use their capability to bend unencumbered by the ground or any other environmental factors, and use their own momentum as a weapon, evading attacks with astounding agility to tire their opponents out or building up massive inertia for explosive gusts of wind to make their counterattacks finishing moves. Airbenders, while rarely resorting to physical confrontations, are able to harness the immense and intangible power of wind. If you're gonna play when of these, you better have a good reason, seeing as they were essentially genocided less than a century or so back. WATERBENDINGWaterbending is practiced by some people of the Water Tribe. Similar to their element, waterbenders are extremely adaptable and versatile. Waterbending concentrates on the flow of energy and focuses less on strength and more on turning the opponent's own energy against them. While a bender's victory in battle depends on their skill or ingenuity, waterbenders, unlike other benders, gain a serious advantage or disadvantage depending on the amount of water around them, although highly skilled waterbenders can draw water from anywhere; they can draw humidity from the air and bend the water in living things, even plants. Or people. But that shit's fucked, yo, and forbidden. EARTHBENDING Earthbending originates from the Earth Kingdom. Like waterbenders, earthbenders gain an advantage or disadvantage in battle based on the amount of earth around them, though the conditions are not as extreme. Earthbenders stand their ground, absorbing or intercepting attacks until they can overwhelm their opponents. Unlike other bending arts, earthbending's strength equally lies in both offense and defense. Sub-skills for earthbending include seismic sense, metalbending, and sandbending. FIREBENDINGFirebending is used by the people of the Fire Nation, and is the most aggressive bending art. Unlike other benders who depend on external sources of their elements to bend, firebenders can create fire using their internal heat source, in addition to controlling existent flames. As the element of power, firebenders have to be able to maintain a constant source of energy and balance in battle, unleashing a volley of direct, successive attacks. Skilled firebenders are able to fly using powerful jets of flames.

Name: Tikaani Age: 40 Appearance: : She is rather petite, but that doesn't mean she comes across as non-threatening. Her eyes are light blue as most watebenders are and they'd be rather pretty... if they weren't so dead looking and didn't always look like they were piercing your soul. Unlike a lot of water benders who braid their hair and all, or put it up in some way, she keeps her dark brown hair completely loose most of the time. Also like most waterbenders she has a very dark complexion, even slightly darker then most waterbenders. Probably her most striking feature is the scar on the right side of her face, what is essentially half a Glasgow smile, a twisted gnarled line paler then the rest of her skin, extending from her mouth to her cheek. Bending: Waterbender, dabbles in bloodbending Personality: Can easily go from very amiable to extremely cold within a second, depending on the people she's around, and how willing they are to strike business with her. Her biggest obsession is with power, she wants nothing more then to control the entire criminal underworld of Republic City. Bio: Tikaani has spent her entire life in the seedy underbelly of Republic City, having been born to Yakone's former right hand man, who had become the leader of Yakone's former gang by the time of her birth. Tikaani's life had always been fairly hard, she lost her mother at an early age, when her father killed her for giving birth to a firebending younger sister, believing she had cheated on him (in reality there had been some firebending genes in the family from a few generations back) and he always pushed Tikaani to abusive lengths to shape her into a worthy sucessor. At the age of 18, she eventually had enough and had a brutal fight with her father, that left him dead and her with her scar. No one expected this child to be able to control a triad at such a young age, but Tikaani managed to hold on to power, and transformed her father's gang into the Red Monsoon Triad. Shortly after her takeover she became involved with a fellow gang member named Qimmiq and bore two children by him a son named Kaleo and a daughter named Ikari, though Qimmiq left her before Ikari's birth because...well Tikaani is fucking scary. By the time of the RP, both of her children have left, Kaleo because she cut off his tongue so he'd be unable to tell anyone about her bloodbending she dabbled in, in her attempts to become the most powerful Triad leader in the city, and Ikari because Kaleo took her away when he ran off, to try to give her a normal life. While Tikaani is a bit bummed that her only sucessors are gone, she has bigger fish to fry. She was one of the few high ranking triad members to have no lost her bending to Amon, as she had been able to barely get away when the Chi Blockers came looking for her, and keep a low profile until the revolution was over. And now with all the voids in leadership in the city... well she believes now's her chance to truly make the Red Monsoons the name to be feared in the city. Name: Kaleo Age: 21 Appearance: : Rather tall and lanky, and a bit on the muscular side. His coloring is the same as his mothers, dark brown hair which he keeps extremely long and is usually tied back into a pony tail, blue eyes and a very dark complexion. His features are rather sharp and pointed, and very "stereotypically handsome", and is said to be the spitting image of his father. And he also kind of doesn't have a tongue, which I guess is appearence? Bending: Waterbender who knows healing. Personality: Well he's kind of quiet for obvious reasons, though before his "detonguing" he was quite a bit of an arrogant snot, well on his way to becoming his mother. Now he is much more humble, dedicating his life to making a living for him and his sister. He manages to be very snarky and sarcastic despite being mute. Bio: Kaleo is the firstborn son of Tikaani and Qimmiq, and had been raised since birth to be his mother's sucessor. He was always an extremely prodigious bender, he ended up becoming a master in his teens, and was always very smug and arrogant about his abilities, and embraced his role as the future leader of the Red Monsoon Triad. But he had his reserves about many of his mother's more... questionable practices which proved to be his downfall. One night on a full moon when he was 20, he caught his mother practicing bloodbending. He felt disgusted and betrayed by her, and threatened to her that delving into the practice would only lead her to become like Yakone, being sent to prison and losing everything she worked for, and insinuated he would be the one to turn her in. Tikaani's response was simply, "Well I guess then I have to make sure you can never tell anyone," And she bloodbended him, made him pick up a nearby knife, stick his tongue off and cut it clean off, against his will. Kaleo was able to heal the gushing wound instantly, but the damage was done, where his tongue was, was now a small stump, and he would never speak again. This incident made Kaleo a changed man, only a day after the incident he ran away from his mother with his younger sister, and tried to eke out a normal life. Now a year later, Kaleo still has no idea what to do with his life, working a rather shit job, and barely being able to afford a shit apartment for him and his sister. After all when you were raised to live a life of crime and refuse to do it... how can you find a place in the normal world? Name: Ikari Age: 17 Appearance: (Picture of description) Ikari doesn't particularly look like a water bender, while she isn't extremely pale, her skin color only has the slightest olive tone to it. Her eyes are also a light gray instead of the blue that most water benders have. She keeps her long dark brown hair in odangos and pigtails ( a bit more realistic looking then most anime depicts the hairstyle... this is probably the best visual reference I can give imageshack.us/photo/my-images/688/usagir.jpg/) She inherited her mother's petiteness. Bending: (If your character isn't, just write N/A. I'll delve into benders below.) N/A uses bows and arrows for combat Personality: Ikari was the child that Tikaani ignored half the time, and it certainly shows as she's significantly more well-adjusted then her brother. She is a rather sweet and amicable individual who makes friends rather easily, though if provoked she can easily go from 0 to bitch within a second. She is her mother's daughter after all. Bio: Ikari is the second born child of Tikaani and Qimmiq, though she never met her father as he had ran off a few months before her birth. Much to Tikaani's dissapointment, Ikari turned out to not be a waterbender, and as such was most of the time put into the care of her randomly firebending aunt, Shila, while Tikaani focused her attention on her older brother. However even though she was the "spare" as the higher people in the Red Monsoon's liked ot called her, Tikaani still cared for her enough to finance one of the best known archers in the city to teach Ikari to defend herself. Ikari proved to be very adept at using bows and arrows, and Tikaani claimed she was "almost good enough to be able to take down a bender. Almost" Tikaani's plans for Ikari had mostly been for her to marry a higher up in the triad and spawn to keep her mother's line going... but a wrench was kind of thrown into that plan when Ikari came out as being gay when she was 15, and at that point Tikaani had no idea what to do with her other then let her just sit around and exist. A year later, when Kaleo was disfigured by Tikaani, he grabbed Ikari and ran off with her, and Ikari finally had the chance to live like a normal girl, a desire she had for as long as she could remember. When the Equalist Movement began, Ikari was at first intrigued, since her whole life she had been treated liek the lesser child for being the nonbender in the family... she began to have her doubts when she attended the "Revelation" and saw Amon debending the benders, and she refused to support them by the time the Pro-Bending arena was bombed, since she was terrified for her brother's life by that point.

Name: Jin Age: 46 Appearance: Tall and slim, with the usual Sand Bender tribe features done up in a dapper high class suit and tie, with slicked back short hair and a monocle mounted over his right eye. He often walks with a cane, more for fashion than disability. Bending: Earth bender. Sand bending specialty, water(and ice) bending techniques studied and used when the sand is in liquid state = Glass Bending. Personality: Sharp minded and clever, social and friendly, he's an upstanding citizen of Republic City, enjoying his position in the (lower)Upper Class as both an artisan, a business owner, and (arguably)Master level Earth Bender, enjoying the prestige his wealth brings him, and the opportunities it has opened for him. He is, however, a very good boss, keeping his workers appraised of how the business as a whole is going, and making sure that they are profiting from it as much as he is. He sees keeping his workers happy(even at his own personal expenses at times, as such he is only marginally 'upper class') as a means of giving his business a firm foundation to grow and expand and raise him as high as he can go. He's quick with his words to charm or distract, but honest and forthright(if perhaps a bit ruthless) in his dealings. "You want glass windows, you want me. If I'm not the only game in town, I'm not playing the game right." Bio: Born of the sand bending tribe, his family was a reasonably wealthy sand benders who used their somewhat stronger ability to push swift delivery of cargo(mostly mail and other light, yet time sensitive, materials) through the deserts. Desert life however was still harsh and at the request of relatives(why his name is Earth Tribe rather than Sand Tribe) the family moved to Ba Sing Se when Jin was young. Throughout his youth Jin was bullied for having "weak" bending ability(in reality he was quite gifted as a sand bender, but bending solid earth and stone was difficult for him as he never managed to 'root' himself, always shifting and moving). Instead he studied art, sculpting stone and crystal by chipping away at and polishing the materials instead of reshaping it by force. As a merchants son, he move again, this time to Republic City. Annoyed by what he saw as constant movement without being able to put down roots, he distanced himself from his family for a time. During his rebellious teenage travels he found the art of glass blowing. He took to it incredibly well, using both all his accumulated bending skills in conjunction, shifting from one to the next as the glass transitioned from one state to the next. A remarkable feat according to the glassblowers, who had never seen such a thing. Reuniting with his family, having a new purpose in life from his seemingly unique gift, he turned his families modest wealth into something more impressive as he started providing glasswork for a majority of Republic City. Every house wanted windows, and his company could provide them faster, more easily, and a higher quality than other glass workers. And when he couldn't, he'd buy up the competition and expand his business. These days he mostly uses his skills for artistic work, forming stain glass windows or glass art or jewelry while a number of workers supply the more mundane means throughout Republic City and a bit beyond. Even then, he's ready and eager to roll up his sleeves and help out if there's a big or complicated order, or just to ensure the quality of his workers products. He's even devised a musical instrument from his niche, the glass armonica.
Name: Wakan Age: 25 Appearance: Tall and athletically built, with heavy tanned skin appearing almost red compared to others. He has long black hair, generally tied back in a topknot(though not shaven). He typically wears buckskin in a modern interpretation of the traditional Sun Warrior attire with the neckwear and arm bands incorporated into a full shirt and the hard leather bracers as a part of boots and gloves. Sometimes he doesn't wear his sash, opting instead for just the pants and a more normal belt. On his forehead he has a stylized eye atop a pyramid. Bending: Fire Bender Combustion specialty style Personality: Devoted and serious, displaying a strong spiritual and mystical side balancing a meditative calm with his intense focus and drive. He wants to be an unstoppable power, and as such he has journeyed to Republic City intent on both learning new skills(studying, and hoping to become one of, the cities lightning benders) and to gain fame for his power. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't quite know what to do with this power in the city. He can hardly become the next Fire Lord after all. It hasn't stopped his drive to better himself, but he no longer sees a long term goal ahead of himself, other than to 'be the best'. He has a large reservoir of patience for dealing with other people and their quirks, but little actual understanding of social interplay and society as a whole, finding little use in dealing with anyone as a 'friend'. Bio: Born of the Sun Warriors, Wakan was one of their more gifted. Dangerously so, when his 'combustion' style abilities showed themselves. The shaman of the tribe found a way to keep him alive through his fitful early years where he was learning how to harness and direct his blossoming power. He learned from them to study a bodies chi and detect if there was any abnormalities, allowing him to tailor his power level safely, focusing heavily on technique rather than simply raw power. Either from fear of being consumed from the power he was born with, from ego at being the best(of his age, of his tribe), or from the thrill of harnessing such a destructive power, or a mixture of all these factors and more Wakan pushed himself to still greater heights. He would physically prepare himself with intense exercises and balanced diets, keeping himself as fit and his chi flowing as well as possible. He left the Sun Warriors on uneasy terms, many of them seeing his drive to be dangerous. Still, he does not seem to hold any grudges against his family and teachers and has not revealed that to be his origin during his travels. As such has left his life a mystery to Fire Nation, simply being a very powerful fire bender who came from nowhere to seek out new teachers and techniques. He was recently directed to Republic City to learn of the 'cold blooded fire' electricity.

Name: Soryu
Age: 18
Appearance: She has auburn hair thats cut boyishly short. Her face is very young and girlish looking, and her features such as her big green eyes, a smattering of freckles on her cheeks, and charmingly crooked teeth make her look a bit younger then she actually is. She has a rather short and stocky build
Bending: Earthbender, knows minor metal bending though the best she can do is fix dents in insturments.
Personality: Very flamboyant and outgoing, and has a way of grabbing the attention of people and stealing the spotlight. She doesn't really take her fame to her head...okay maybe a little, but the payoff for her isn't the money and fame, but the fact she's doing something she loves... not that she minds the fame and money. She is also very outspoken about her beliefs and occasionally uses her fame to convey them, some of these (such as her complete dissaproval of the Equalist Movment) could possibly get her in trouble someday... Also ebcause she is rebelling against her traditional upbringing, she is a huge supporter of social progress and of the times changing.
Bio: Soryu is the child of the governor of Kyoshi Island and a former Kyoshi Warrior. While the rest of the world evolved with the times, Kyoshi Island remained a place of tradition and very little had changed about it since the Hundred Year War, except for the creation of a large sea port that served as an important shipping point between the Earth Kingdom and the Southern Water Tribe, and funded by Varrick Global Industries. And Soryu absolutely hated it. She loved nothing more then to buy things from the big cities, reading news papers and magazines, and wishing she could live in the big city. Her biggest passion in life was music, she'd often spend her allowance on records that were sold at the port. Soryu began dreaming about making it big as a singer (something she had a lot of talent for) in the big city. At the age of 15, she thought she found her big break when Varrick Industries decided to throw a celebration celebrating the port's 20th anniversary, that would be hosted by the man himself, and also partially by her father. Soryu begged and pleaded and begged and pleaded to be allowed to perform, and finally her parents consented, just to shut her up, and they hoped she wouldn't make too big of a fool of herself. And it was quite the contrary, when all was said and done Varrick loved her performance, and told her she had a lot of potential, and that she could easily make it big and that he could even help. Soryu was estatic all her dreams were about to come true... until her parents said "No, absolutely not" Soryu was furious, and within the month she decided to run off and go to Republic City to take up Varrick's offer anyway. So 3 years later, Soryu has blossomed into one of Republic City's biggest teen sensations, a singer well known for her jazzy songs on the radio and her very vibrant performances of them. She is living the life she always dreamed of and is rich and famous and doing what she loves. Nothing could go wrong.

Name: Juri Lao AKA The Comet Age: 19 Appearance: Juri is young, spry and athletic. More than a little muscular, but not quite what you'd call "buff." She's a little taller than most women, standing at almost equal height to most men. Green eyes full of vigor and life. Hair is dark brown, in a short pixie cut that always seems to go from "relatively neat" to "half a decade of bed-head messy" by the time the day is done. Tends to wear simple, modest clothing from day to day...but her in-ring wear is usually some bright mix of red, white and black. Sometimes with face paint, her and the booking staff haven't decided whether to keep it or not. Bending: FIYAH Personality: She's loud, brash, arrogant, outspoken and has an ego bigger than the statue of Avatar Aang in Republic City's harbor. She's a show off and never misses an opportunity to taunt, mock, insult or otherwise demoralize her opponent...or anyone who gets on her bad side. She's a lose cannon who'd just as soon chuck a fireball at you than look at you! She's full of energy and spirit and it's damn near impossible to keep her down! She's...acting. The Comet is a facade, albeit a very good one that Juri almost always keeps on in public. But inside, Juri's actually a very calm, collected individual who likes reading, meditation, tea, idle chit-chat with friends and practicing her crafts: acting and firebending. She only puts on that persona in the ring to garner attention and get noticed...which has worked successfully. Bio: Juri had a relatively calm and peaceful life in a Fire Nation port town...something that never really suited her. Young Juri always felt like she was meant to do something big and meant to succeed...she just didn't know what it was she was meant to succeed at. Fortunately, she learned her true aptitude quickly: Firebending. Juri was a natural at Firebending and was considered something of a prodigy. She had the tools for her success...but not the means to achieve it. But those soon came as well. In a fit of boredom, looking for something interesting at the library, Juri happened upon a book chronicling the rise and fall of a sport known as "combat bending," which was entirely unlike the Pro-bending sport she knew of. This was...flashier, more exciting...dangerous. It was a shame the sport was all but outlawed and replaced with Pro-bending. Or so she thought. Another day, she over heard some sailors coming in from Republic City talking about the sport as if the event they were talking about had happened yesterday. Turns out, it had! Someone had decided to relaunch the sport in Republic City! Juri knew what she had to do. Over the course of several months, she saved up some money, left home and made her way to Republic City where she promptly sought out the combat bending promoter and asked to join. And she did, taking the role of "The Comet," a famous and very successful bending champion of the olden days of the sport. And according to her? Things have been uphill ever since.

Name: Wei Long Age: 26 Appearance: Wei is muscular and in extremely good shape. However, he hasn't gotten to the point where he's overly bulky and his muscles just get in the way. But you look at the guy and think "damn, that dude's built." Tan skin, owed mostly to a somewhat mixed Earth Kingdom heritage. Black hair that he's let grow out past his ears and just hasn't gotten around to getting it cut. Always seems to have a five o'clock shadow. Tends to prefer function over form for clothing: plain shirts, durable pants for working, a jacket if he's cold. Oh, and when out on his...nighttime adventures, he wears the standard Equalist Uniform. But that'll just be out little secret, alright? Bending: N/A Personality: Wei's a quiet but intense man that chooses to save his words. But he's rather polite, kind and caring person once you get past his rather gruff and almost silent exterior. Wei's a bit defensive about people and things he cares about...which is why he got into this whole Equalist business. He doesn't hate benders as a whole in the least...but the corrupt and people who use their power (literal and figurative) to abuse others. For obvious reasons, he's a bit secretive. Bio: Wei was born and raised in Republic City, the eldest child of three to the proprietors of a mechanics shop. Income was never truly an issue for the Long family, what with the boom of the Satomobile, which Wei's father seemed to have an aptitude with. If something you had didn't work right, take it to Long's Mechanics and whatever you took in would work twice as good as the day you got it. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows (and motor oil) for the Longs, though. A nice business like theirs naturally drew some attention from some...less than reputable folks. Shame if something happened to that place, no? Naturally, the Longs payed protection money to one of the many triad gangs of Republic City. As Wei grew up, he learned more and more about how much the triads ruled by fear in this city. It sickened him. So, when he heard of a group trying to put an end to such tyranny, he leaped at the chance to join. Wei became a member of the Equalists, learning chi-blocking martial arts among other skills. His mechanical skills came in very useful, allowing him to repair and improve on many of the Equalists' gadgets and weapons. However, Wei never saw too much action as an Equalist, since he abandoned the organization late into their plans when he saw they were doing the same thing to benders that the triads did to non-benders. Fortunately, that allowed Wei to avoid getting arrested, attacked or worse...but he DID keep his gear. It took him a while to think up the idea (and then work up the nerve) but Wei decided the only way to stop injustice was by taking justice into his own hands. He couldn't go to the police, since they were doing all they could and would just put him in jail. And organizations like the Equalists just corrupted themselves. The only way to fight it was alone as a vigilante...and hey, he had a perfect mask already and tools to get the job done...why waste 'em?
