It was sudden- nobody quite knew what happened, but in a matter of months the peace of Loswa solar system plummeted into a war of great proportions. The Epolytino family, a noble house of great military strength and even greater wealth, launched a conquest of the solar system's planets.
Few stood in their way- even the House Dimageda, the royal family of Linize, fell in a matter of weeks from an unrelenting assault. The entire house was slaughtered- except for one. The newborn daughter of the family, the royal princess, managed to sent out of the solar system in secret. The supporters of the Dimageda family, and many other royal families killed, were forced to either bow to the new reign or go into hiding.
The reign of the Epolytino Empire was established, with Linize becoming the throne world of the newly formed empire. Though rebellion forces did manage to gain support, particularly amongst supporters of Epolyino's enemies and fallen royal houses, very little of it was vocal as rebellion coups were smashed with ease. And as years went by, even the most diehard supporters began doubting their cause. After all, there was nothing to rally behind. Nothing to inspire the troops, nothing to encourage enlisting.
For years, nobody knew what happened to the Dimageda Princess- only that she was sent off somewhere in the Milky Way. Until, that is, another ship was sent to the same galaxy, with incredibly similar coordinates.
Although arguably insane, an idea came across some of the rebellion- if the Princess was still alive, and if they could reach her, they would have something that showed their efforts weren't futile. The Princess was the perfect symbol for the rebellion- a sign that not all hope was lost for them.
Without much to lose, and with even less time to follow that trail, a ship was launched after whatever- or whoever- was sent to the planet the Princess was sent to. As fate would have it, it was a small, developing planet marked as 'Terra'. A planet that in many ways was behind the developments known to them- they hadn't even colonized their moon yet!
Of course, this presented an interesting scenario- they had to recover the princess. They also had to do it fast- and, if they had to, abduct anyone with her.

{Key planets}
The Empire's reach goes beyond these planets- but these are the key ones, or otherwise important to the story.
Linize is the current throne world for the imperial Epolytino family. The planet is known for its lush, lively surroundings and rather high standard of living, owing to the fact the population is often higher-end nobles and their servants. Linize was formerly the territory of the Royal House of Dimageda, until the the Epolytian Empire came into being- with the resulting wars claiming a majority of lives in the Dimageda family.
Toris is a jungle planet. Toris is known for its strange weather conditions leading to it becoming a peculiar part of the empire- if it weren't perfect for growing more exotic crops. Because of this, Toris is known for primarily being the stomping ground of farmers, though with it are some decently sized pockets of civilization.
Muint is a brutal, harsh planet which cannot sustain life on its own. This planet has been converted into both a prison, but also a training world for the Emperor's Guard, as only those who have the strength, stamina, and resourcefulness are worthy of protecting the imperial family.
Aldas is perhaps the most populated planet in the empire. A sizable chunk of civilians live here, making it arguably as important as Linize itself. Because of the heavy amount of civilians, the planet is incredibly industrialized and densely packed.
Belede is a backwater desert planet that alternates between freezing snowstorms and brutal heats. It isn't part of the empire's reach, and is incredibly difficult to get to- and as such, anti-imperial forces often use it as an activity hub.
Earth is Earth, circa the early/mid 2010's. Not much else to it, beyond being where the exiled Dimageda princess was sent to-- and where someone else was sent to recently, confirming suspicions of where the exiled princess was.

{Tech and other}
The technology of Loswa is a bit odd. While the technology is no doubt miles ahead of the stuff that Earth has, it has a worn-in look to it. On top of this, the non-Earth characters attire is definitely medieval-themed in nature. Think Star Wars mixed with Legend, and you'd get a pretty good idea of what the aesthetic of world is.
Beam weapons- both laserguns and beamswords- are common in use amongst peacekeeping agencies, and are easily acquired by most civilians so long as they have proper paperwork.
Shielding is particularly common amongst those who can afford it, which renders the majority of weapons ineffective. Beam weaponry- be it a laser gun or a beam sword- does absolutely nothing, and most bullets will have impact dulled to the point of uselessness. This keeps use of basic weapons, like swords and knives, common and more than just the domains of eccentric collectors.
Warp drive technology is often used in high-end spaceships. Warp technology makes it possible to easily travel outside of the solar system in a short amount of time. Warp technology also leaves very little of a traceable trail unless directly spotted when launch takes off- it's entirely possible to get a rough estimate through it, but it's incredibly dangerous and unsafe to follow that trail on a gut feeling alone.
Notes on how Loswan humans differ from Earthlings:
Lankier build
Shorter average height (roughly by 2-4 inches)
Lack of collarbones and wisdom teeth
More varied pool of natural eye and hair colors (ie, you can be anime as shit)
