Yes he is! You just don't have the common sense to realise it! For a change, just ask yourself: what you would have done.Think deep about it. If you really truly would have done it differently, then you can judge! Well... Yes, I would have in fact. We wouldn't have judged in the first place if we did not consider that the right thing was not that.

Compassionate does not mean lending cars to vampires so they can feast on humans in a different county.
Compassionate does not mean stealing blood from blood banks to feed a fetus half breed.
Compassionate does not mean wiping out predators, because you think you may be balancing nature cause of it.
Carlisle is compassionate like a guy giving out smallpox infested blankets. Try again, Twifan.

Sorry, I'm just feeling bitter after seeing stupidity festering.
Hell, if Carlisie is supposedly compassionate, why does he need extra money from the stock market? Plus he could at least donate stuff or work for free.

Carlisle is a doctor, there for he must be compassionate by responding to the suffering of others. He does this every day as his job ^To borrow your own quote, "Compassion is the response to the suffering of others that motivates a desire to help"The key word here is 'desire'; based on your own definition, this would imply that Carlisle wants to respond to the suffering of others simply because he wants to help them, regardless of the benefits and/or risks to him himself. If he only helps people because it's his job (like you just mentioned) but doesn't really care about their suffering, it's not compassion. Likewise, although it's possible for a person to become a doctor out of genuine compassion toward the sick and/or injured and a sincere desire to help them, it's also possible for someone to become a doctor solely out of a desire for prestige and/or money, even though they honestly couldn't care less about their patients. In short, just because a person is a doctor does not mean that they are compassionate.

In short, just because a person is a doctor does not mean that they are compassionate. The reason for his desire to help is irrelevant, the point is that he has a desire to help, whether that is for selfish reasons or not. Desire is defined as "a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen" and that is true. He wants to help in exchange for love, companionship, or for a karmically-based reason. No matter his reason, he frequently helps people, for example, he does not want to kill people so he feeds purely on animals. Whether this is for the sake of the humans or so he doesn't "become a monster" or both, that is irrelevant. So, yes, Carlisle has a desire to help. No matter his reasoning. Compassionate is a different word from kind. No-one said he has the power of kindness or selflessness. But he does help.

People are complaining about Carlisle's consumption habits. Vampires drink blood. Would a vegetarian convince every omnivorous human to stop eating meat? If they were selfish and conceited, yes. Otherwise, no. Vampires are a different species to humans, they consume blood. Would you starve a common vampire bat? There are three types of bats that drink blood, none of which have been complained about, yet you all insist on "stopping vampires from killing humans". As much as I love twilight, vampires aren't real. It was a film. So it doesn't really matter if they " kill" people because those people were characters and they didn't actually die. But my point, animals (yes, humans and vampires too) are very SELFISH beings. We want to eat, become stronger, take things and do whatever the hell we want. So, considering a vampire's nature to drink blood (which is an immense urge) Carlisle is actually pretty good for stopping his consumption of human blood. Imagine you were starving on an island. That's how they feel with no blood. How many lives have they saved by consuming animal blood? No matter his reasoning, he has SAVED hundreds, nay, thousands of lives. So they slip up a few times, it's a difficult thing to do. Try stopping eating chocolate, biscuits, crisps, fry ups, etc. And replace your diet with leaves (imagining that leaves have all the nutrients a human needs, for the sake of the example). Its hard, you might sneak a bar of chocolate or two. That's what they are doing as well.

Plus he could at least donate stuff or work for free. Even though compassion is the desire to help someone who is suffering, I imagine Carlisle would frequently need to replace furniture/walls etc. because he has 5 vampire children. He frequently moves house and owned houses in other countries/states. If you think teenagers (who want to newest tech, break all kinds of stuff and want cool cars) are bad, multiply that by 5, add a pinch of vampire venom and bippity boppity boo, completely broke. Alice is known for buying everyone designer clothes. What about Emmet, who throws his weight around? Fistfights and cat-fights with super human strength? Think of the cost.

Hello. I have not ever focused on the character of Carlisle. My favorite is and will always LEAH. To be honest the only one with a big heart for me it's just she, but nobody sees. Not sees the empathetic Edward and not even the compassionate Carlisle, as the sweet mother Esme. I believe that for them everything is reduced to something material, rather than spiritual. Perhaps in addition to LEAH, the other character decent was his father Harry. I like to think it was the only one able to see all the good of LEAH. It had to be a conversation about Carlisle, but with me it always turns on my favorite shape-shifting. I apologize for the bad translation.
