"Why so?" Max asked, genuinely curious.

" When my dad died he was kind of... Being a dumbass. He was exactly how April described up, he bought into the rock star mentality and thought he was invincible. He was basically doing a stupid stunt and a kanji tore open Rey and made my father fall to his death. So that's why I don't have fun with it like the Williams kids do. And why I'm so...cautious."

Somebody had gone through Pilot Kistiakowsky's room by the time he got back to it. Somebody had pinched his stash.
That second somebody however was not Commander Anderson, and it made her rather annoyed as she stalked through the hallways looking for somebody under her jurisdiction to vent her anger on.
Jay had suitably avoided her so far, and was not technically under her jurisdiction anyway. He was also the someone who had pinched Darrens stash and paraphernalia . He let the kid get settled in the room before coming in with a 'we've got to talk boy' expression.
Meanwhile two mecha and one jet patrolled outside, and further still the information gathering division under Miss Louise waited for the satellites to pass overhead to give their images. They couldn't move the satellites in orbit, though they were mostly still functional and provided proper telemetry, but something about firing the thrusters seemed to attract the notice of... something under the sea. That had the power to shoot down satellites and other objects in near space.
So the satellites only maintained their regular orbit and imagery, which meant waiting for them to give a good sweep of the area to see if there was anything that needed to be tended to. The section to the north they had declared the 'Garden' needed to be watched, as the massive(but fortunately immobile for the most part) daikaiju there tended to have dangerous tricks when they started to bloom. Also, a gathering swarm of other kaiju could be detected and dealt with.
But, they needed to wait and rely on ground radar and of course regular patrols, to tell what was going on for the most part.
((Waiting on Al and/or corte to post for their patrol duo. At this point I don't care what, it could be 'see's nothing for an hour, heads home'. Also, Warrior of Light Penny has control of April Anderson again.))

((Consider this me dropping out of RFF. Kitter is up for grabs, so is Fynn. It's this or just constantly waiting for me to post all the time.))
The patrol went as it did, with little in the way of interaction from Kaiju, save for the rare occurrence of a ligament or feature across the surface of the water while crossing the beach before they made the round about to circumvent their patrol.
Before the day was over, they had made it back to base and into the safety of their respective bunkers to rest, recharge and resupply.

Most people would have considered it a job well done, not seeing any kaiju on a patrol. After all, that meant that the base was safe from any current attacks, and that whatever was around had been exterminated.
No.
Louise had been on the job long enough to feel quite apprehensive about the lack of activity - specifically, the DECLINE of activity. Typically, there was something more - even just the overgrown versions of those bug kaiju that April seemed so fond of, or little screeching beasts of some sort or another - anything. But there was just nothing today, and that in itself was cause for alarm.
Her mind went back to That Day, or really, That Week. There had been no activity whatsoever, all the smaller kaiju around the perimeter had seemingly become extinct. They had even taken patrols at different times of the day than they regularly would have - there was just nothing there. That was, of course, until the Class 4 Daikaiju had nearly wrecked the above grown base, killed a few bunnies, soldiers and mechanics and sent her and nearly everyone else into the medical bay while the pilots sorted it out together. And even then, they had gotten the call almost immediately afterwards about the only Class 5 Daikaiju known to man.
It was generally very, very bad to have this level of non-activity, and it was no surprise that Louise was feeling quite tense after the mechas came back.
She wheeled herself and her kitty mug over to her coffee maker, and poured herself a new cup to try to calm her nerves.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Pilot Williams!"
The name came from above, on the catwalk as Adam would get out of his mech. Looking up, he would of course find none other than his trainer.
"Did you find anything? Details, please."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Oh..." Max looked down then. "I'm sorry... I guess, in my head, I just... want this to all be like a superhero comic, yknow?"
He braced for the inevitable laughter.

Max nodded, heaving a sigh and laying back on his bed, looking up at the ceiling.
"I just wish it could all be, yknow. Not complicated and stuff."

"Sonar detects a presumed class three Daikaiju off the coast. Mass displacement and underwater speed match that classification." Annastasia reported to Miss Louise. "Both We currently have no A178th Hund Krieger, Zaltonus, and Sierra Romeo have returned to the hangar and are being recharged. Sierra Romeo is reported fit for combat, as are all the other mecha." Her tone was gentle and undemanding, almost toneless in it's statements as she read the information from numerous reports and compiled it into that brief.
"Shall I contact Commander Anderson to ready a sortie, or shall we wait for further information as target approaches?"

Miss Louise held her breath as Annastasia reported to her, nodding solemnly.
"Yes, please contact Commander Anderson. We need our pilots ready in time."

Annastasia leaned towards the microphone at her station. "Commander Anderson to briefing please." She said, and started compiling necessary data into a packet. An identical packet was sent to Commander Xanthony as well, should conventional military be required for scouting or otherwise.
The satellite images were starting to come in now, with another one of the crew working under Miss Louise studying it. So far it didn't show anything too out of the ordinary. No immediate activity to worry about, save of course for the occasional large Daikaiju wandering. And the only one of those visibile was the one in the water. The 'bridge bunny' in question frowned and tapped a spot with his finger, bringing in a zoomed in image of the mountain side. Something had opened up a new tunnel there. With a frown he filed the information into his report and moved on. Too far from the base to be an immediate concern, but not entirely ignorable.

Romy who was sitting next to the bridge bunny looked over at the picture, "Are we just going to wait and see?"

"Can't be helped." The young man said, still intently watching the monitor as the satellite continued it's orbit. "Don't want to take my eyes off the screen, in case there's something more dangerous closer to the base. We don't get satellites on this orbital path very often. Have to use every resource we have. I'll file a report when I'm done."
If Romy thought that the cave in was important enough, she could report it herself. But it was still some distance out. Several hours by mecha, days by foot assuming a person could survive the trip.
Meanwhile, at another terminal, Annastasia would wait a bit longer before calling for April again. It seemed that Commander Anderson and Pilot Williams were... 'talking'.

April groaned, rolling her eyes and slapping her hand to her face.
"Of for fuck's sake, really Anna?" She shook her head. "Every damn time we get some down action, she's got to start panicking like this. She's probably up there sitting all prissily with those little fucking American flags, drinking her fucking coffee in her fucking kitty cat mug to 'calm her nerves', acting all sweet and fucking innocent... Every damn time!"
With similar ranting, she of course made her way to the briefing room.

Annastasia sent what they had about the threat. It was closing on the beach, and would make land fall only a short distance away from the farmlands that fed the base. The creatures mass and speed were calculated, and assuming that it did not slow down, or speed up, as it exited the water, and that it did change course by about ten degrees(it currently just seemed to be heading for land with no knowledge of them), that it would arrive at the base in about three and a half hours. Obviously, meeting it before it got that far was preferred.
Hund Krieger and Zaltonus were able to be launched, but it would be best if they were given time to cool down and refuel. The rest of the mecha were launch ready, awaiting Commander Andersons orders. All that was left was her dealing with the pilots.
The dark skinned Commander Xanthony was also looking at the briefing as April arrived, though he seemed distracted by something else. "I can send jets to drop more sonar beacons, or even depth charges, but we're basically useless against a Class Three. The things too big for us to deal with. Games yours Commander Anderson. You think your kids are ready for it?"

Adam pulled himself from the Zaltonus' cockpit as April called for him, staring at her for a moment. "Well," He started, a slightly bored tone in his voice. "The most we saw we a few dead one-"
The alarm sounded for April to head to briefing, cutting off Adam completely.
"...I'll get back in the cockpit and tell you later." He said flatly.

The first thing Darren noticed was the missing bag.
That alone could have, and would have, rendered him nearly catatonic, in any other instance.
It was the mess that April'd left that kept him busy, cleaning up his utterly ransacked apartment; he'd luckily only dropped his things off, and had barely ventured into his new place of living beyond disjointed fits of restless slumber and 'homework', making an effort to study the readily-accessible records and schematics of his fellow pilots' personal, mechanized death machines. He was thankful for the small miracle that Drill Sergeant Nasty didn't touch his ukulele, but the majority of his other items, however miscellaneous, were strewn about on the floor, even his entire mattress flipped on its opposite side.
He'd only gotten halfway around to putting it all back in order when he'd given up, opting to take a fitful nap on his overturned, uncovered mattress.
He'd dream of April.

There was a knock at Darrens door. April would be busy from the sound of the intercom, but for the moment Jay could have a word with the kid.
After all, Jay really didn't like the idea of a giant zombie kaiju being on the base, let alone kept as an attack dog. And Darren didn't seem like he was taking this seriously. Most of the rest of them seemed to have a professional edge, or their own mental issues that Jay would leave to the base therapist to deal with, but showing up while 'medicated'?
This boy had to be told that he wasn't in a gene-line of Pilots, and April could keep his balls in a jar by her desk if she got too pissed off at him.

They had eaten lunch and gone their separate ways soon after, with Eren heading back to do maintenance on Schwere Waffen Kai and Giselle going to their room. Once inside, she started to work on that assignment April had given all of them: making a report on the kaiju of your choice.
Giselle had selected the Thalassa, a water-elemental kaiju that could be difficult to fight depending on the circumstances.

April reviewed the information, weighing probabilities against one another. On one hand, the creature could, with luck, not come even close to them or the crops. On the other hand, that was a very slim chance, and even landing in the crops would be a horrible idea. Not everybody liked the GMOs that were being crafted down inside Criterion, after all. There would be issues.
"I think we have a few pilots who could be well enough to head out. The question is who, and how many..." She paused, thinking it over. "Decision's made. I'll go set up an alarm and talk with the mechanics."
She calmly walked out then, going towards the hangar in a casual pace. There was no cause for too much alarm, after all - over three hours left them a bit of leeway. She stood on the catwalk, reviewing the mechs, and called down, to any of the mechanics, "Are they all fit for travel? Were any disabilities recorded during the earlier fight dealt with already?" She cast a glance over to Trinity, but the wing was blocked from her view.

Other mechanics reported that Trinity's wing was repaired, though like most systems that made little sense(flight of something that ungainly tended to confuse folks) it would be best to test it, and for that they needed May.
Zaltonus and Hund Krieger were infact ready, but since they had just come back in it probably wouldn't be suggested to send them out again so soon unless absolutely necessary.
All other Mecha were in top condition and ready to go.

April nodded, looking at all of them before moving to a phone on the wall, cranking an ancient siren with it. "Pilots Salazar, Williams - May, and Yamato, report for duty. Pilots Kistiakowski, Jaeger, and Crosser, stand by."

" Ugh shit," Marco said. He was laying in his bed trying to block out the sirens with his pillow, He got up and grabbed his pilot suit, and ran out the door, showing up to the hanger still only wearing his pajama pants.
" So much for taking a nap" he grumbled.

May groaned as she heard her name called over the sirens, pulling herself out of her bed and grabbing her pilot suit off the floor. "And I just changed out of that damn thing." She muttered, taking it to the bathroom and changing back into the plum suit, before darting out to the hanger.
She climbed up and into her machine's cockpit, activating the machine's control systems. "Excellion, ready to launch." She said.

Dan had retired to his room long ago. First chance he'd gotten, he'd left. He had that assignment from April he needed to take care of. Putting it off didn't seem like a good idea, especially with how unyielding that woman was. One report on somewhat pedestrian kaiju Kirzaka Rex later, and he had nothing to do. He wasn't really hungry and didn't want to be caught in the middle of something when the kaiju alert went off, so he mostly did some basic exercises to get him warmed up should the alarm hit.
And sure enough, it did. Once again, it was go time. For reals this time, though. Dan changed to his pilot's outfit and bolted to the hangar, making it to his mecha in record time. Inside Masamune, Dan began the power up and calibration sequences.
"Yamato Dan, Masamune ready for launch."

This boy had to be told that he wasn't in a gene-line of Pilots, and April could keep his balls in a jar by her desk if she got too pissed off at him. Darren groggily rolled from his uncovered mattress, resting face down on the floor for about a minute or so before rising to his feet, hastily dressing and cursing under his breath (and sometimes not so under his breath; from behind the door, even Jay could hear the occasional crescendo of "shitpissdicksFUCKBITCHASS" before dying down amidst the raucous noise of drawers opening and closing, as well as bags being tossed around the room in a frenzy. The door slammed open as Darren seemed to fall out of his room, keeping himself from hitting the adjoining wall with an outstretched hand, his ukulele in the opposite one. His flightsuit half zipped up, he hadn't so much as noticed Jay at his door. He looked up, bewildered as he was when he had come out, still scrambling on two feet toward the hangars. "'sup Jay Daddy, be seein' ya!" he said, completely blowing off the older man as he dashed down to the hangar bay. There, he would be reunited with Nimrod for the first time since he had arrived on base. The hulking biomechanical beast in the hangar, from a distance, seemed to be more machine than creature, metal plating covering most organic tissue, eyes dull and unseeing. "I gotta say, Nim, you're still one ugly motherfucker, man." Darren's voice seemed to flip the switch in the massive kaiju, and with a low, guttural sound, Nimrod came to life. His eyes, bright and alert, darted to the voice of his pilot. Darren smiled, and he liked to think that Nimrod was smiling back.

April groaned, seeing Marco, Max at his side, coming up quite a bit later than the others.
"You're late! Get in your pilot suit and get into your mech. Now."
Even though it wasn't directed at him, and that he was called as a secondary mech, Max followed suit as well, rushing quickly to get everything done.
After all, April scared the bejeebus out of him.

Jay held up Darrens stash and paraphernalia and waggled them at the half asleep and still not fully comprehending young man. The visuals didn't seem to attract his attention. When Darren said that he would 'be seein' ya' and hurried to follow Aprils call, Jay just shrugged. "You'll know where to find me then." He said, and headed off in the opposite direction down the hallway. Looked like Darren would be going cold turkey for a bit.
Patty could be found loitering around the briefing room, in her flight suit from earlier piloting. She wanted another turn, or at the very least to watch what everyone else was doing. Of course, April hadn't called her, so more than likely she wouldn't get to do anything more than watch.

She left her report as it was for now, leaping off of her seat to leave the dorm room and head back to the hangar where Schwere Waffen Kai was waiting to be mounted and piloted. Once there, it didn't take too long for her to climb in and prepare for launch.

"Oh right fucking now, April? Alright if you say so," Marco said. He was so sick of April and this day in general he just stopped giving a shit, and he changed into his pilot suit right in the hanger and right in front of April.
"There happy?" he said as he zipped up his suit. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Sergio snorting with laughter at his little display.
As he walked to his mech, Sergio opened the hatch, "You sure you wanna keep piloting bro? Stripping might be your calling."
"Shut up Sergio." Marco said as he climbed into the hatch. Sergio jsut laughed and shut the hatch behind him.
After a bit of setup, he reported over the intercom, "Rey is ready for launch."
