April facepalmed, groaning while everyone finished loading in. The three were now cleared for launch, the skylight and the doors opening to let them through. The other three would be cleared to launch later.

"Travel route programmed and sent to your heads up displays. Travel time calculations coming up." Annastasia said calmly. "At maximum travel speed the Masamune and Excellion will reach the beach as the class three is entering the shallow water." They still had not identified the creature yet, but it's assumed to have some kind of ranged energy 'weapon' just from it's size and power. "Rey will arrive some minutes afterwards, but can intercept prior to the class three reaching farmland. A direct course will set the confrontation within the ruins of the sea wall and one of the ghost cities." Long evacuated to underground, not all buildings had been knocked or torn down, meaning there was cover for them to fight in.
"SAL and Nimrod will need to launch as soon as launch bays are clear if they are to intercept before farmland is reached. Schwere Waffen, at best speed, won't arrive in time by itself." It was the heaviest armed, but also the slowest of the six. Of course, since the fastest were being sent out first, they could probably delay if not defeat the threat throwing all these calculations off.
((Also, if all three pile onto it, the fight is going to be somewhat unbalanced in favor of the mecha. With two, they have a reasonable chance of victory. Three it's not an assured victory, but it's not going to be that tough of a fight. I'm assuming April just doesn't trust the pilots, since she's making ready to send SIX after it.))

"Understood," Dan said as Annastasia gave them data and a plan of action. "Afterburners ON!"
As Masamune lost momentum from it's catapult launch from the hangar, Dan's verbal commands caused the boosters to kick on just before the samurai machine touched down. The black and red mecha seemed to skim over the ground as its shoulder boosters propelled it towards the combat zone, toward the kaiju. Dan had been waiting for this moment for a while. Time to show these rookies how a real warrior hunted.

Marco quickly employed his ranged cannon located on his breast plate, and steadily approached the shoreline, trying to get in range to use his ranged weapons.
As he approach he'd, he found himself tugging at his seatbelt every few moments, trying to make sure it was secure. It was a nervous habit of his, after all the lack of a harness was what has caused his father to die.

The massive, majestic, form of Rey strode towards the location where the creature reportedly had made landfall. Masamune and Excellion had formed up on either side of the larger uberjaeger. Marco saw on his screen a number of friendly airborne sensor readings.
"We'll have eyes on scene in three." The steady voice of their operator said. Attack helicopter, fitted more with sensor suites and spotlights than missiles and machineguns had been easily outpaced by the flying mecha, but had stuck with Rey and now spread out over the landscape.
The beach here, if one were to call it that, was studded with massive concrete structures. Buildings, some up to four stories tall, stood here. A skeleton that was once a city.
"Reading life signs within the structures. There's a small colony of class zeroes inside. Eyes in the sky will need to remain at a distance." Images came up in the three Pilots picture in a picture viewscreen showing creatures. Some looked sorta like vultures crossed with pteradactyls, while others a kind of ape crossed with a shark. The images also showed a scale for these creatures, they barely would come up to the smallest of the mecha's ankles. The creatures could, theoretically, take out the helicopters that were assisting, which meant no views save aerials through the small forest of steel and concrete. Could make tracking the creature difficult if they fought here.
"Eyes on target." The operator said calmly. "Still in the water. Approaching the submerged structures. Identity not yet confirmed." A live feed of the creature came from one of the helicopters. It was a massive thing, on par with Rey for size from the looks of it. From this angle it almost looked like a giant anthromorphic snail, a huge spiral shell weighing down it's back, ever so slightly breaching the water as the rest of it swam or walked on the bottom of the bay, pulling itself towards the ancient buildings that had fallen down into the area. "Target changing direction. Heading towards you." And half tunneling, half crawling through the long emptied city's stormdrains and sewer system.

The airborne angel mech flew back from the other mechs as they approached the shoreline. The titan's arms moved apart as it generated a bow and arrow from seemingly nowhere.
"I'll stay back and attack from a distance." The pilot announced to the other pilots.

"Understood, moving to engage the kaiju," Dan said in response to mission control and May's strategy. "Deploy Dragon Cutter!"
A relatively small pole launched up from Masamune's leg and the samurai mecha caught it with no effort. The pole telescoped out and deployed a large three pointed spear. A quick spinning flourish later and the red and black machine rocketed toward the mollusc kaiju, aiming a stab for the un-shelled part of the kaiju.

The class three was still at least partially underground, though from where the surface that once was streets was bulging up, it was reasonably obvious to Dan where he should strike.
His swift motion through the buildings Masamune was almost visually lost by Rey, the class zeros(along with some non-kaiju creatures) that had nested there went airborne and caused a stir, making it easy enough to locate where the trident wielding warrior went. The spinning flourish could be seen from afar as the Dragon Cutter was lifted above the rooftop level and then brought down.
Immediately Dan saw that he had scored in incomplete hit as the ground exploded upwards. Oh, he'd struck the creature certainly. A milky blue ichor burst out and mixed with the debris of the shattered ground, but it wasn't dead on. The creature burst up, giving Dan a good look at it's ringed maw that resembled some kind of worm, roaring with a coughing, gurgling sound that shook the surrounding buildings. It's long swimming limbs swung to strike the mecha that had made it's side bleed.
Back at the base one of the crew working the monitors started taking the airborne images and gun camera from Masamune itself and relaying them. Another on the crew started cross referencing the imagery with known daikaiju. As rapid as the research was, they wouldn't be giving answers before Masamune either had to retreat, or get slammed into one of the decrepit buildings.

Having lost contact with Masamune, Marco decided to take down some of the class zeros while Dan took on the real threat. He deployed his ranged weapon and fired repeatedly at the class zeros.
Boom Boom Boom the echoes of the shots rattled the cockpit.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ma'am the base is under lockdown, there is no way we can let you in until the kaiju threat is taken care of."
Today was not Holly Joiner's day. First her travel plans had been delayed a few hours thanks to incompetency from the base in Australia, and now she wasn't even allowed to enter her new home.
A boom rattled the room and the Labrador Retriever by Holly's side whimpered a little.
"Its okay Moxie," Holly cooed to the dog in her thick Australian accent, rubbing its head soothingly, " I need you to stay strong for me girl, okay?"
"Ma'am why are you even trying to gain access to the base?" the guard pressed her.
"I'm a mech pilot."
"...A blind mech pilot..." the guard said, looking at the slobbering seeing eye dog by the girl's side.
"And here I was thinking disablity discrimination was long gone..." Holly said sarcastically, "My mech arrived here before me, it should be in the engineering bay... uhh one of these papers proves I'm its pilot." She held out a small stack of papers, " I was told to meet an April Anderson."

In the observation area the battle played out across multiple screens, from the numerous angles of the helicopters and the mecha gun cameras.
Masamune's cameras were useless at the moment, as an airborne view showed that the creature had just thrown the swift black fighter through a wall and into a building. Rubble and debris covered Dan's vision for a moment as his machine slumped from the blow to the side. Damage readouts showed where impacts had dealt more than 'acceptable environmental impacts' and had dented armor, but nothing internal was compromised yet. The beast couldn't say the same as it bled from the wound the Dragon Cutter had been pulled from.
"Still unsure on daikaiju type." One of the operators reported. "Sky eye two, can you give me closer visual on the wound?" The question was valid, as the helicopter had to fly a safe distance from the battle while it was providing the aerial view. The reply to the operator couldn't be heard, but it was apparently negative as the camera did not immediately move.
Another operator watched as Rey opened fire on... the seagulls flying away. True, the flock wasn't just seagulls, but also a few vulture like class zero kaiju. Three shots and one of them burst into a cloud of gore as one of the creatures was actually hit. The rest missed completely, taking chunks of some of the taller buildings out. "Marco... do you have confirmation on target?" Came the hesitant voice of one of the male operators. After all, it certainly wasn't the place of one of the 'bridge bunnies' to tell a mecha pilot they couldn't shoot a kaiju, but Dan was in that area, and Rey seemed to be firing blindly. The operator glanced over at April to see her reactions.

The black angel of a machine in the air took Masamune's sudden knock back as a sign to move into combat. From the unit's left boot shot out a bar into the machine's right hand. The bar began to change shape, quickly forming into a bow as it deployed a beam of white energy to act as a string.
Its pilot focused intently as arrows appeared inbetween the machine's fingers on the left hand. As quick as they appeared, the black angel of the skies loaded them into the bow and fired them off, trying to hit anywhere on the kaiju.
"Execellion to Masamune, what are your damages?" The pilot asked, keeping focus on shooting another volley of arrows at the kaiju without hitting the Japanese mech.

((Finally posting holy shit))
April groaned.
"Great. Dumbass is causing more damage to the buildings than the kaiju. Great work, Dumbass! A few more of those shots and you'll have all our demolishing work done for us!"
Louise cleared her throat, casting an uncertain look over at April.
"Marco, perhaps it would be best if you didn't use your gun for this part. They're class zeroes- melee should work just fine, so long as you can keep them away from the helicopters." She scanned over the field again. "Dan, can you hear me? Stay steady if able. If your energy drops below 60% or there are any further damages, retreat. May can handle this."
Her vision changed to watching the three support mech quickly plowing through the area in pursuit of the others in battle. With any luck, they should reach the battle in minutes - perhaps mostly for cleanup, but as one mech had already taken considerable outer shell damage, they might be used for battle as well.

Technically speaking the buildings in this coastal city had been abandoned for longer than some of these kids had been alive, so demolishing them was no loss. If anything, eliminating them would eliminate the cover the Daikaiju had against Rey's ranged weapons. Of course, demolishing them with Masamune's body might not have been the best option. Still, buildings were mostly hollow, these that were crumbling from kaiju(and other vermin) habitation moreso than a normal structurally sound building. So the damage to Masamune was not as bad as if he'd been plowed through a mountainside. If the pilot hadn't been injured from the shock of the blow(or the shock of the impact from falling, or the Class Zeros Kaiju apes that now climbed up his mecha attacking like mice nibbling at an angry bull), then he should be able to right himself and continue to fight. The damage to Masamune was at the moment only a little more than cosmetic. He was still fighting fit.
The Class Three creature was rearing up for another blow on the still knocked down Masamune when the bolt from Excellions bow. The arrow impaled the creature on it's raised arm, forcing the clumsy swing to miss and impact the ground. The whole beasts upper body spun on this new target that was bringing it pain, and it raised it's eyeless head, the lower neck bulging for a moment as it seemed to roar at Excellion, only for a discharge of water to be belched out.
The blast of water was... almost embarrassing. To a person, and even the cloud of class zeroes, the water was a tsunami strength blast that bowled them aside. But by the time it reached Excellion, between the range and size, the compressed sea water from the creatures mouth just gently splashed the outer armor, doing nothing more apparent than getting the mecha a bit wet.
From within the operations room there was a soft gasp from the boy who was trying to identify the daikaiju. Immediately his young hand shot up. On his monitor he was replaying the image of the wound in the beasts side that Masamune had caused with the Dragon Cutter attack. It wasn't bleeding anymore. Infact, the blood had turned to powder, and the powder had turned to what looked like a hard corkscrew spine extending out. Giving the beast a spear to match the Dragon Cutter extending out of it's hip at an odd and unhelpful angle.
"I... Identity... of... part... of the Class Three tentatively given as Corallax reef." The boy managed to stutter out. "High infectious rate, creates hyper-calcium layered shell with incorporated biomass. I... I think..." He started to stutter again as he reached something he wasn't sure about. "That it infected a class two daikaiju in the water. Identification of the class two unknown, but it is badly infected."
"That means the shell is actually a colony that's using the bigger body as it's meat puppet." One of the other more talkative 'bridge bunnies' noted. "Why'd it come out of the water? It'd be more infectious by being able to spread it's spore through the sea water. Maybe the infected is trying to get rid of it?"
Annastasia ignored all this debate, instead waiting for further information to pass along to not only Dan, Marco, and May who were already in combat, but also Max, Darren, and Giselle who had launched. SAL, Nimrod, and Schwere Waffen were already jogging across the landscape to join the fight.
"Recommend switching to concussive or incendiary weapons." Annastasia told the pilots with distanced calm as the information on how best to contain a corallax infestation came on the screen. Concussive force from explosives, or even just mecha sized fists, would blow apart it's armor, the stone like material was easily shattered even though it would leave sharp protrusions and at least temporarily spread the creatures, while suddenly heating or cooling the outer layers would kill that part of the colony, leaving a shell that protected the inner creatures, but also starved them and forced them to canibalize one another in an effort to break out of the shell and continue spreading. Enough heat or cold and they'd die in their own shell leaving an oddly textured rock. Not enough... well it still hurt them and slowed them down dramatically. Combine the two and the beasties had no way to defend themselves besides using all the biomass they had at their disposal and trying to reproduce faster than you were killing them off.
"Decontamination systems are being prepped for receiving the mecha involved in the battle." Came another report when the identification had come in. No point bringing a live corallax into the base to reproduce and continue growing. Fortunately, the sterilization process was well developed. Corallax were far from the most insidious threat that had been fought.

Dan swore as he realized his stab was merely a grazing blow. Damn. He thought that was a pretty good stab! He aimed it at a pretty good spot and put enough force and speed behind it, but it wasn't enough. Oh well. Few battles were settled in a single strike. Speaking of strikes, a hell of a strike hit him across the face, sending Masamune aside into a nearby building. Fortunately, no one had lived there for decades. Didn't soften the blow on his machine any, though.
"I'm alright," Dan replied to May. "Dusted and dented, but everything's working. Thanks for the cover."
Metal hands still clutching the Dragon Cutter, Masamune used the titanic polearm as a makeshift crutch to help lift its giant frame up again. Dan stood at ready to attack again before noticing the point he had struck now had a big pointy spike sticking out of it instead. Before he had time to ask, Annastasia's report came in.
"Understood and affirmative," he responded to Louise and Anna. "Switching things up a little. Dragon Cutter! Blade Retract!"
Responding to his commands once more, the blades retracted back into the polearm, forming a slightly unwieldy looking staff. With a spin of it's new bo, Masamune aimed a mighty swing of the pole at the kaiju's parasitic shell armor.

The class zero kaiju looked rather like a shark, if a shark were bipedal. It's long arms and thick legs gave it a loping clumsy gait as it moved, switching between two legs and four legs as it desired. Usually it patrolled it's nest, swinging from the rotting steel girders like an ape as it hunted for other creatures that it could get it's sawblade teeth around.
Right now however, kaiju saw the two massive behemoths doing battle in it's jungle of concrete and steel. It wanted a piece of that action. It could almost smell the blood in the air as the black and red one drove an attack into the street, drawing out the burrowing creature. Then a blow knocked the black and red into one of the walls of the canyon that were the playground for the kaiju, and all it's ecosystem. A bunch of flying creatures, about as big as it was, launched into the air shrieking, and many exploded as thunder rattled over the ceiling of the canyon.
It approached and bounded at the wounded monster, trying to get it's teeth into the beast. It met cold steel as Masamune's armor repulsed the class zero's best attempts at savaging it's leg. Masamune came up, retracting the blade in it's weapon and the class zero kaiju scrambled and tried to hold on, tried to savage the giant that was destroying it's home. Ultimately it fell without ever being noticed.
Masamune brought down it's bo staff in a mighty swing, stepping forward to bring it's weight down onto the blow. The shell cracked under the impact and fluids started to leak out. The infected class two was still wounded from Excellions arrow, and now turned to face Masamune, feeling the pain as it's shell, even the shell of an infection, broke. Once more it swung it's heavy arms at Masamune, using them like a club to batter the larger mecha.
Further out afield, Excellion registered a warning light in Mays cockpit. A spotter helicopter rotated around and gave her a view of herself... but not before panning over several of the class zeroes who had been caught in the water blast. Their bodies were now calcifying, spikes and blades of coral growing from them in their deaththrows. And as the camera came onto Excellion the wetness that had caught the front of the mecha was now growing powdery. Coral had taken root on Excellion and was growing at an impossible rate. Right now it looked like just a powder, but if it got worse it would start locking up joints. Or worse.

April was looking over the screens, mostly now at the display over the Excellion and the panicking May. With surprising calmness, she took to one of the microphones, and kept her voice level.
"Pilot Williams, pull back from combat. You'll be assisted directly. For right now, take deep breaths. Can you do that for me?"
Louise looked over to Romy, viewing the radars - the trio of backup mecha were now reaching the scene. She did a quick mental check of each of them, and turned to Romy.
"SAL's a medic bot, direct him towards Excellion at the back of the formation, furthest from the action and the water. Send Rey, Schwere Waffen Kai, and Nimrod towards the middle, to back up Masamune and protect those two. Pilot Crosser may have to assist Pilot Williams out of her mecha. Alert them of the class zeroes and others all around the area, they'll need to keep those in check as well."

She felt pretty satisfied by how official she sounded.

"A flame bath could clear the infection." Annastasia pointed out. The question then was if any of the mecha on the field had flame throwers, lasers, or similar type weapons that could create intense, wide spread, heat.
Failing that... they had suitable facilities back at the base. They just had to keep Excellion from further water.
((Waiting on another effort from Masamune and Dan.))

Dan and Masamune didn't seem to get any orders, despite the change of plans and the need for May to pull back. So he assumed that he was just to keep on at what he was doing. Which worked fine for him. Masamune blocked the awkward slam of the beast's club-like arms and then dodged backwards. He gave another flourish of the staff before thrusting one end of it forward at the monster in what Dan was pretty sure was it's face. All he needed to do now was buy time for May...

Titanic forces clashed as the beasts forearms came down, and Masamune brought up it's battle staff to block. Dan felt the jarring from inside his cockpit as his mecha did what it was meant to do. The follow up swing from the creature, trying to pin him down, missed by almost a meter as Masamune danced backwards, moving it's whole body faster than the sea beast could manage just it's arm.
The twirl of the staff in a flourish caught the beasts attention, and it moved to block... only for the staff to thrust in underneath it's arms, catching the creature in... well... it didn't exactly have a face, just a massive mouth like some kind of lamprey or leech, but the Masamune's staff caught it in the lower jaw, breaking a few teeth in the trust and causing it to throw it's head back in surprise at the impact. It was hard to tell as Masamune held the thing at bay, but Dan was pretty sure that he'd broken the creatures jaw with that strike. The way it seemed not to want to flex it's mouth any more implied as much.
Drool spread down the haft of the staff mode Dragon Cutter, and almost immediately coral started to form shards on that end, giving it once more a blade edge.

Max froze up slightly, but quickly nodded, moving over to where the Excellion was as they came up to the clearing.
"G-got it!" he replied to Romy, trying to put on his best look of determination and bravery to go about for his job. He attempted to establish a connection with Excellion then. "May? Uh - May! Pilot Williams! Are you okay in there? Can you- can you hear me?"

It was only Excellion's front that was covered by the coral like growths, and while they were struggling to expand their grip, they weren't yet covering the exit hatch of the cockpit. May had an easy way to eject and escape.
That said, the area was not safe for people to be out on foot. Despite, or rather because of, efforts to kill the class zero kaiju in the area, there were small swarms of them fleeing or panicking, and would probably be a danger to anyone in the area. Additionally, the coral grew far more effectively from skin contact than just becoming a barnacle on mecha armor.
"Pilot Crosser." The calm voice of Annastasia came over the com channel. "I've contacted the hangar. You are not equipped with suitable heat producing weaponry to clear the Corallax from Excellion's hull. However, your shovel should provide suitable means of scraping it off."
"And you've got my permission to scratch the paint." Commander Hawke's voice was relayed as well, even though he was in an entirely different room. Scraping off the barnacles, so to speak, would ruin Excellion's paint job. But it could always be repainted. "Also, you do have a way to produce enough heat to kill the buggers. SAL is built with a primarily Hydro Plasma power core. This will initially make you more likely to be infected, as the Corallax will be attracted to any water vapors that condense on your mecha. But, if you can keep SAL active and keep his engine heating up, the steam vent heat sinks reach a high enough level that it will kill the Corallax near you. This'll make you immune, and kill any corrallax infections near you so all you'll need to do is have SAL give Excellion a hug to finish getting her cleaned up. I can step you through a means of jailbreaking your control system and then overclocking your power core to maintain the heat level but... you're cockpit is not made for it. You might want to strip down and start drinking from any canteens you have with you, it's going to get really hot in there. Think you can do this?"

The angelic machine floated back slightly, closer to SAL. The Excellion gently touched the ground next to the machine. May trying to calm herself down by taking deep breaths as evident by the com-link. Deeeeeeep, sooothing breaths.
Deeeep, sooooothing breaths to prevent the very real chance of dying quicker...
"I'm fine!" She shouted to Max, betraying not only the calming effect of the breathes, but probably the whole 'not dying' thing too.
Even if it was just a little.

"Max, there's a large heavy metal handle behind your seat on the wall. You need to turn it down as far as it will go. On the wall opposite there's a panel that comes off if you work the switch to the side, remove it and you'll see three valves, the two blue ones need to be opened all the way. All the way clockwise twists, got it? The red one needs to be closed a quarter turn counter clockwise. You can close it further, but don't shut it completely. If things start getting really hot in there and SAL starts to respond sluggishly, you'll need to get out of your seat, go back to the panel, and open the red valve again.... now, the meters that track your heat are going to get really high, and SAL is going to be moving faster and stronger while you're running this hot, but when controls start getting sluggish you need to cool down some..."
Jay continued to explain to Max how to overclock SAL's engines while operators directed the newly arrived mecha.
"The spotter helicopters are showing a low ruin here." A marker was set in their heads up display. "If you can advance close enough to stand on it, you can manage ranged attacks down the street canyon at the creature. Make certain you do not hit Masamune in the process, the streets are relatively close quarters. Check friendly fire."
"We need volunteers to circle around into the water and stop the creature from retreating."
