Hello.
I'm the Doctor.
I'm thirteen hundred years old, give or take a few centuries. I'm a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, in the constellation of Kasterborous - but I'm sure you wouldn't know where to look for it, through your telescope. Would you?
This is my TARDIS. Time And Relative Dimension In Space. Type 40, to be precise. She might not look like much from here, but trust me: it's bigger on the inside.
Think you've seen it all?
Think again.
If you want to come with me, outside those doors, anything could happen. We could discover new worlds, or rediscover lost ones. Meet new friends, or terrifying monsters. Impossible things; things you wouldn't believe. And when you travel with me? Nothing will ever be the same, ever again.
So, do you want to come with me?
If you do, I must warn you: you'll see all sorts of unbelievable things. Ghosts from the past, aliens from the future, the day the universe was born with a big bang, the day the earth died in a ball of flame.
It won't be quiet, it won't be safe, and it certainly won't be calm. But I'll tell you what it will be . . .
. . . the trip of a lifetime.
Hello.
I'm the Doctor.
Basically? Run.
A Doctor Who Roleplay. For me? A long time coming. For you guys? Maybe not so much, but it's new, and I think it's fair to say we all like new.
For those of you not in the know (or perhaps are only familiar through limited cases of tumblr-osmosis), Doctor Who is a fifty year old British science-fiction show. To take liberally from the Wikipedia article, "The program depicts the adventures of the Doctor, a Time Lord - a time-travelling humanoid alien. He explores the universe in his TARDIS, a sentient time-travelling space ship. Its exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. Along with a succession of companions, the Doctor faces a variety of foes while working to save civilizations, help ordinary people, and right wrongs".
Basically, your cast of characters are offered quite a rare opportunity: the ability to travel forward and backward in time. Where do you want to go? What do you want to see? It's all up to you, and nothing's off the table.
So, without further ado, let's get a lowdown on who your tour guide through all of space and time is:
The Doctor
Peter Capaldi, in all his proto-ska, Doc Marten-y swagger
The Doctor is a Time Lord from the planet of Gallifrey, who travels through time and space in his dimensionally transcendent - "bigger on the inside" - time machine, the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) which took the exterior form of a 1963 police telephone call box, and chose to stay that way ever since. While his kind, the Time Lords, were a nebulous, all-knowing species, dedicating themselves to overseeing all of time and space without interference, the Doctor found that lot in life awfully boring, and chose instead to leave his home planet by stealing an obsolete TARDIS model.
As a Time Lord, the Doctor can regenerate - a biological trick to cheat death, at least for awhile. A Time Lord can regenerate, rejuvenating their otherwise mortally-afflicted bodies and changing their appearance and personality, twelve times, living a total of thirteen lives before finally and permanently dying. There are some . . . exceptions, however; Chronologically, the Doctor is in his twelfth incarnation. However, it is his fourteenth consecutive regenerative life . . . but it's also the very first of a brand new set of regenerations, bestowed upon him by the restored Time Lords. But, for the sake simplicity and sanity, it's his twelfth.
The Doctor's been running ever since he escaped his homeworld, often taking a few Human (or otherwise) companions along for the ride, making friends and enemies innumerable. He has a slew of secrets; hell, 'The Doctor' isn't even his real name, for starters.

Roleplaying Format
Unlike . . . well, just about any RP on this forum, this Doctor Who Roleplay will follow an episodic format; rather than one large, amalgamated thread, our adventures in the TARDIS will be in self-contained, consecutive threads, much like the 'episodes' of a television program. This allows for a few different things; for one, it's an altogether alternative way to run an RP, and one that I've wanted to try and take on for a good long while now. It's also a means for a great amount of lenience on you guys, the roleplayers. Doctor Who can take place anytime, anywhere, with anyone; one could create a variety of characters, and not one of them could be similar, either in time placement, location, or even species. With this said, the Doctor also tends to travel relatively light, when it comes to his companions; while he's had groups as big as three or four before, it doesn't tend to get much bigger than that.
You want to be a companion? Great! But you that doesn't mean you have to stay for the long haul; people come and go from the TARDIS, and you can always go back home, not even minutes after you'd left in the first place. Or, perhaps your companion might meet a much less savory fate - not an unknown risk, unfortunately. With the episodic format, you're not tied to absolutely commit to your characters. Even if you don't want to be a companion, perhaps you can be someone we meet along our journey - friend or foe. You could go from a villain in one 'episode', to a companion the next, if you'd like!
