Okay, I got it into my head to, since 8bits is dead and gone, go back and attempt a Legend of Zelda game. I'm checking to see if there's any interest here. We only have a few regular posters, and while I'd love new arrivals, I can't really count on this getting anywhere without interest.
The setting of Legend of Zelda is pretty reasonably well known, all things considered, but also extremely flexible. Suffice to say that, if I'm going to run this, I'll try to keep it both true to Legend of Zelda and add new things to it. The main setting is probably Hyrule, but I'll be using my own map there of and give that out either at the start, or as it becomes applicable. As such, with only a few very obvious exceptions, character creation should be entirely open. Any established race, or make your own up, and any skills or abilities of early to mid-game that you want to have, canonical or self invented will be accepted. I'll include a bio-skeleton after a bit of discussion on other details.
In the past I have had a large amount of trouble getting a group organized and together. It seems obvious that most players would want to be adventurers exploring the realm and saving the kingdom, as that's the main draw of this storybook tale. However, the last couple of times I tried to run one of these I had a problem with everyone adventuring off in different directions and never wanting to interact with one another(not to mention avoiding my plot hooks like they were the plague. "Oh, the great deku tree has sent a fairy messenger to tell of an impending crisis? LOL, I'ma go ride horsie!") even when they were given a good reason to meet together and interact(using the Twilight Princess idea of the adventurers guild. How exactly did you get drunk in a milk bar?). So, instead, I want this to be slightly different.
And this gives two choices. The first being the idea that all the players are the crew of a ship, ostensibly a pirate ship, though really any private kind of ship would do. The idea here is drawn from Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. Each player would have a position on the ship, duties to fulfill, and of course pitch in when adventure and riches showed themselves.
The alternative however is something I don't think has been done yet, a traveling circus. The idea of a gypsy style caravan of wagons, showing off fabulous treasures and talented performers(putting on plays or other entertainments), all while surviving the wilderness and often unfriendly locations in order to survive has a bit of attraction for me. Player characters would still have a reason to stick together and interact, and have just as much reason as the pirates to perform heroics, but with a slightly different theme to them.
I'm open to discussion on which way to go with this honestly, and I'd like to hear what everyone else would like to see in a Legend of Zelda game. So, post a note saying you're interested, drop a few words on what you think should happen, and let's see if we can make this work.
A baseline character skeleton, assuming we go with the pirate thing, still seems necessary in order to get anyone to thinking about their character:
Name:
Race: (anything goes really, just describe it if it's got innate abilities like a Goron or Zora)
Rank: (Basically what you do on the ship)
Skills: (anything your character is good at)
Reason for being aboard the ship:
