On March 1, 1954, the U.S. tested the first H-bomb, Castle Bravo, on the Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. No immediate problems followed this event, however there are some that say this bomb was detonated not as a true 'test' but as a weapon, designed to destroy something otherwise... invincible.
By the mid 1960s reports of 'creatures' of gigantic scale that bend known laws of physics start mounting up. This culminates in the discovery of a "floating atoll", a relic of an ancient civilization, believed to be Atlantis, that speaks of 'genetically engineering'(obviously in different terms) creatures that grew out of control, growing too big, and too powerful. These creatures, named Gyaos by the relic, are connected with a near extinction level event of humanity. And they are discovered, restarting their breeding after a long hibernation and attacking humans for food. Against newborn Gyaos human weapons prove to be suitably effective, they seem to be only very large proto-birds(having both avian and reptile features). Adult Gyaos however, qualify as "daikaiju", their size being far too large to fly according to the square cubed law, and being able to generate some kind of cutting beam attack from their beaks.
All is not lost however, as some daikaiju have shown themselves to be, if not always actively friendly towards humanity, at least far more hostile towards rival daikaiju. The giant turtle creature known as Gamera, mentioned by Atlantis as a "last weapon against Gyaos" engages in numerous sorties, demonstrating an intelligence and defending humanity despite initially being attacked by the military. The final verdict for dealing with these daikaiju is rendered: "Let them fight."
In 1975 the first known "psychic link" is reported, demonstrating a way that a human can forge some kind of connection with one of these daikaiju. A new dimension of study is opened up as communication and limited control over daikaiju becomes possible. Also during the 70s the first Gamera self destructs during a battle against what at the time is believed to have been the last nest of Gyaos.
The 80s are a time of rebuilding and optimism, with few daikaiju appearances. By the early 90's the unique radiation absorbing ability of the daikaiju is being utilized, as whatever process they manage to convert ambient radiation into anti-gravity and other effects does not die when they do. Construction of cyborg or mecha versions of defeated daikaiju begins. These reconstructed daikaiju often retain, or regenerate, their old 'personalities' despite being theoretically under control. By the end of the 90's these 'tamed' daikaiju are being used to dispose of pollutants, relieve cities from natural disasters and provide a massive deterrent to 'modern' warfare, creating more terrorist style attacks by those desperate.
Now in the 2010s, after nearly 30 years of very limited daikaiju birthings and many of the mecha-kaiju starting to wear out, a new clutch is being hatched.
YOU are being born. You are a giant monster... will you choose to defend the world, or destroy it?
(Bio skeleton to follow after I hear some feedback on what you think is important to describing your character. And by describing, I also mean avoiding any conflict over how combat turns out. I have some ideas myself, but I spent too long researching the timeline. Which, yes, also loosely follows the Godzilla "Kaijuverse" timeline, so characters like Mothra would not be out of place in this amalgam setting. These ideas include bonds with humans who get to have their human drama all while also dealing with a giant monster clumsily stumbling about wanting to be helpful. Also, just a note, while not mentioned in the timeline, many of the daikaiju are of extraterrestrial origin, so despite the opening being Gamera/Gyaos centric, there are supposed to be a lot of variation in the kinds of daikaiju you can build your character from.)
