She took another small sip of the Ovaltine before continuing on, staring into the mug.
"You got me there. We were in a big hall of mirrors, and... things were going on. It's all.... kinda foggy." It was an innocent lie. "There was a giant cat monster that kept breaking the mirrors trying to get us."

"That's really weird." Natalie finished her drink, before lying back, looking up at the ceiling, stretching and flexing her arms out in front of her. "Fog inside?"

"No, I mean, in my head. Like... I don't know. It's not really clear," Ryan finished rather lamely.
"See, what I'm wondering is," Johanna started up immediately, "What happened? Why did it get dark? Do you know? I mean, candles went out."

Running her fingers through her hair Melody was trying to piece together what had happened. She had bumped into Ryan, and then from there it was all...it all seemed like something out of a fairy tale. Ballrooms, evil cats, mirrors playing back memories like a movie in a theater "The lights...they just poofed" Melody shrugged taking a a small sip off her mug.

The blonde's nervousness grew in the silence. He set aside the mug, and said, very lowly, "I found something."
"What?" Johanna's excitement spilled forth, she moved to the end of her bed to listen better. "What did you find?"
"...A book."

Taking a deep sigh Melody looked over to Ryan, so much for keeping it a secret. She thought drawing her legs under neath her to sit cross legged she sat the mug between her legs and listened for what Ryan was going to say.
Walking over to Ryan, Aurora wiggled her way between Melody and Ryan leaning on Ryan and nudging his hand slightly.

The boy pet the cat absent-mindedly, helping calm his nerves.
"It's in another language - all symbols, except for a passage. It... it made the lights turn back on."
"Did it make them go off, too?"
"...I think so, yeah.... I touched it and the lights went off, and then I was being chased -"
"By what?"
"I don't know!!"

Putting a gentle arm around Ryan and absent mindedly rubbing her shoulder Melody chewed on her lip "Then he collided into me and we found the...ballroom" she said

"I think that's quite enough for now, children." Mary had come back over, her arms folded. "Into bed, all of you. You all need to rest." Mary distributed pyjamas and chivvied them into bed. The more they talked about it, the angrier spirits became- this she knew from experience.
"What's that about?" Nat leaned in, whispering to Jo.

It didn't take the youngest blonde very much time to fall asleep - exhaustion setting in from running through the halls. Angel stayed up quietly, listening to everyone else in case something were to happen.
"What's what about?" Johanna asked in reply, voice also in a whisper as she stayed snuggled into the bedding.

"Probably how she rushed us to bed." Eulalia replied, her voice low as she fiddled with her pillow.

Natalie nodded. "Yeah- kinda weird, wasn't it?" She wandered towards the bed on the other side of Eulalia, her own body not quite ready to succumb to sleep yet. "Maybe they know something about that book?"
The hallways were dim, and quiet. She still wasn't strong enough to abandon a physical form entirely yet, so Lilith padded quietly down the corridor, lights flickering eerily as she passed them. The others, they'd be in the cursed room, no doubt. Cursed, she thought, was the right word only for her. To them, it would be blessed. Their sacred ground was growing weaker every year, though, as memories (and occultic magic) faded. Lilith paused, before opening a narrow hidden doorway, into the walls. Here, she continued her prowl, towards where they slept. Sure, she couldn't get in. Didn't mean she couldn't exert a little influence through those thin wooden walls though. She walked along the wall, trying to find a vulnerable, sleeping individual, and it wasn't a moment before she found her first prey- the boy who, she quickly realised, had found, touched and opened that book. No wonder she felt stronger tonight, so suddenly. She stopped for a moment, before sitting down adjacent to the bed on the other side of the panel, beginning to toy with his mind.

"Maybe. I wanna know what the hell's in it now." Johanna rolled over, yawning, and glancing over to the boy who gave a small whimper in his sleep, before looking back to Natalie and Eulalia. "-Too much excitement for one night, though."
"Stop it!" His voice seemed shriller than the thought it was, hands up to protect his face, backed up against a wall. The man's grip on his arms didn't release itself.
"Don't you dare!" The taller hissed, inches away from where the boy's hands were shielding himself. His words were punctuated with hefty shakes, making the boy's head rattle back against the wall. "Don't you fucking dare. If you leave here, do you know what'll happen? Do you even understand? Your face is going to be plastered everywhere," His grip tightened, his voice straining, forcing itself into a calm atmosphere, "And cops are going to be running after you fucking everywhere, you know that? And when they find you, they're just going to find you and bring you right back here, no questions asked. And then you're going to have to answer to me, and if you think I'm fucking scary now," The boy lowered his hands, catching only a glimpse of the man's piercing gaze before looking down to the stairs, eyes swimming. "Then you'd be really fucking in for it then, wouldn't you? Wouldn't you?!"
His head hit the back of the wall again, this time rougher than before. He let out a sharp cry, still balled in on himself. The man stayed silent, not daring to let him go. Deafening laughter sounded in his ears from somewhere else, but still he couldn't move from what he was doing.
"I-I'm sorry-"
"You better fucking be. Do you think I like this? Do you think I want to be so hard on you?" He snorted, dropping one hand from the boy's shivering arm, glancing at the bruise that now was forming in the shape of his thumb. "See? Do you see what you made me do - now you have to wear long sleeves and its almost fucking summer. Christ, you're a fucking idiot, aren't you?" His hand on the other arm tightened, and he pushed him heavily back against the wall again, evidently not hearing the laughter or paying mind to the fact that the boy was now full-on crying, hands up again. "What was it this time, huh? What made you fucking decide you could just up and leave? Forge my signature on a piece of fucking paper and run away to some - some - I don't even fucking know where you were planning on going. God, you're such a fucking dumbass, you know that? You didn't think I wouldn't hear about it? You didn't think-" He got closer into him, both hands back on his shoulders, breathing strong, "That they'd fucking call me? Call me and tell me 'Oh, your son just brought in a paper for a bus slip, but there's some information missing that we need you to fill us in for'?! You didn't even think far enough ahead to get your Social Security Card, you fucking moron. If you're going to run away, at least do it fucking right."
He let go of him, letting the blonde slide down to the ground, covering his head and bawling into his knees.
"P-please do-n't-"
"Please don't what?" Edmund turned back to him, having walked a few paces away, his hands balled into fists. He was responded with by only a wail, and in turn snorted again, stomping back over to grab a fistful of curls. "I'll give you something to cry about you fucking slut-"
He started trying to drag the blonde to his feet, other hand going to swing, but not accounting for him to knock his arm away, and in turn accidentally let go of his hold on the child - who slipped in turn and found himself going down a flight of stairs.
He woke up with a start, his head and chest burning, warmth flooding his face. He sat up, breathing, shaking hard, lifting his hands to his nose and mouth to find blood careening down his face.
"No, no, no," his voice came out as a soft whine, unsure if anyone else was actually awake, "Are there tissues - ?"

"Shh, shh- it's alright." Mary leant in, helping him to sit up, pinching his nose for him, beginning to clean his face gently with a tissue. She was in clean latex gloves, but her disposable surgical apron was spotted with dried blood and other clear fluids. "A good job I forgot my file and came to check up here- are you okay?"

He winced, still blinking back stars.
"Thank you, yes, yes, I'm - fine. I'm fine, thank you..." He was letting himself calm down, despite the blood dripping down his face still, draining a headache along with it. "-It was just a nightmare, this happens sometimes..."

"Let me see if I can't stop the bleeding, then you can go wash your face." She continued cleaning until the bleeding stopped. "Will you be okay to get back to sleep?"
Lilith lounged behind the wall, putting out her destructive influence as far as she could. Of course that doctor hadn't realised, she'd be in her lab, breaking every level of research ethics available. The boy had woken up, so she moved on, testing the sleeping girls for the weakest mind, in her head.

Shifting in the bed, sleep had yet to takeover Melody's mind. Turning her head so her ear was in the direction of Mary and Ryan so she could listen to the two. What happened? She wondered what he had been seeing behind his closed eyes, was it his father? Was it what had taken place in the ballroom? Or was it just a nightmare...? Silently she just listened.

Melody would be able to watch the boy leave the main room, heading over to the nearest bathroom - which happened to be the 'hidden' one he'd been shown earlier. He flicked on the light, forcing his eyes to adjust, swearing he saw shadows moving behind him but deciding that, at this exact moment, he didn't care. He turned on the water, cold, and splashed it against his face before heating it up slowly to better clean off the blood.
He glanced up to the mirror, catching his own eyes before looking away quickly, to his hair, to his skin, paler than normal now, to the bruise still played across the side of his face. He touched it, unsure if it was really still there - and then quickly ran his hand back under the water, attempting to scrub it off roughly, almost tearing at the skin. Sense came back, and he slowed down to a stop, and turned off the water with a sigh.

Eulalia shifted in her bed as she drifted off.
Her heart raced as she dreamed. There she was, in the great nothingness, hovering above a sea of inky black. Floating. Breathing. Staring at the white nothingness. Unable to move.
She heard a movement from the sea, as she felt a hand move along her dress. Another appeared, moving around her shoulder. Once more, a soft plunk, plunk, plu-nk-k-k as more hands pushed up from the sea and moved just under the girl. She tried moving her head, one hand grabbing her neck. The others slowly began seizing her, moving erratically as they tightened their grips.
They she was, in the great nothingness. Held by those beyond reality, floating there as they shook her in spastic bursts of motion.

Feeling tired Melody slid back down into the bed and turned onto her side and fell back asleep after seeing Ryan disappear off into the bathroom.

This was too easy. Lilith toyed with the girl's mind, feeding, preying on the defenceless dreamer. The fear gave her a rise, a kick, a boost of energy. She'd already drawn her first blood of the night. There was no reason not to continue- after all, that blessing grew wearing by the year, by the day, by the hour, even. Their haven would not be safe for long, this she knew for sure. Once it fell, there would be nowhere to hide from her, or from the monsters she shared the house with. The thought of this delighted Lilith, making her pile the pressure on to Eulalie's mind and head. This would make what she'd done to the boy earlier look like child's play.

By the time Eulalia woke up it was morning, not that they'd know it immediately. Light filtered in through the crack in the door, but besides a clock on the wall saying the time, it'd be hard to tell.
The atmosphere had only lightened somewhat, they'd find, with the day - a permanent, oppressive air of tension hung about the hallways, while everyone went to survey the damage.
In front of the infirmary there didn't seem like too horrible a mess, a few claw marks from the hound on the woodwork, but those could probably be buffed out. In the great hall, a mess was dragged inside from whatever creatures had ran in, and the doors had been re-hinged at some point over the night, showing off claw marks up and down the carvings. Glass trailed down the stairwell to the east wing - undoubtedly from the two who had been inside the dance hall, which probably was in far worse sorts.
"God," Johanna breathed, shaking her head. She righted a small topiary that had been knocked over in the night. "I hope the upstairs isn't as bad as this."
"I'm not sure anything hit the dorms," Ryan said, sticking close to Melody, holding the book tightly in his arms. "But it was so dark last night - I could have run through them."
"Even so, we should probably go look around, right?" Angel asked, glancing nervously about the Great Hall. "Even though we don't really know if anything'll be waiting for us."
"I've got to get this back to the library."
"What?!" Johanna spun to look at him.
"-Mr. LeRennet said it might help fix things, besides, reading it could be dangerous -"
"Who says the book is dangerous?" She asked, going over to him and taking it from him with little fight to flip through it, "I mean, it saved you guys, didn't it? It turned back on the lights - who knows what secrets lie inside this..."

Blinking her eyes a few times and glancing at the surroundings. What a mess, scooping up Aurora into her lap and crossing her legs Indian style. Glaring at Johanna who seemed to have great interest in the book Ryan had found
"Let's not worry about it" she muttered, she wanted to look at the book as much as any of them did but she didn't want to do it with everyone else.
"I'm sure it's just an old dusty book, and we got lucky" she continued petting Aurora absentmindedly.

Eulalia was lurking behind the group, carefully listening to the conversation at hand. The house was incredible disrepair for a single night, even for eldritch beings attacking.
"Mmm, but a dusty old book could contain some valuable information, could it not?"

Sighing heavily Melody nodded "I suppose" she muttered "I've found a lot of power in my mom's old dusty books, that's for sure" she agreed thinking of her mom's grimoire and how many times it had helped her through out the years.

It was a matter of balance, momentum, a touch of finesse. It was favorable that he maintained a equitable amount of all three.
With a resounding, confident laugh and a booming "Tally-ho!", a well-dressed man of Regency sensibility came swinging downward from the ornate chandelier above the Great Hall, swaying and cascading to the floor with an impressive display of pomp, circumstance, and wild style. Somehow, despite the raucousness and flamboyant acrobatics, the well-dressed man landed upon the floor with light feet.
The chandelier, of course, crashed down with a spectacular explosion of glass and shrapnel, causing a resounding noise to echo through the house.
"Hmm," Lord Byron muttered to himself, dusting the debris from his fine frock coat and breeches. "Could have afforded another few pirouettes, I'd think."
