This is just something I wrote that was originally to be part of a series of short stories about the Seven Deadly Sins. However, because it doesn't fit with the tone of the other short stories, I decided to leave it out of the short story series and figure out whether to leave it alone as is or use it as a start for a different, longer story.
The story itself is how Lucifer got himself kicked out of Heaven along with his army of angels.

A Prelude to Sin
Could an angel feel fear? Fear was such a human emotion, and a powerful being such as himself could not feel human emotion. At least, that is what he kept telling himself. However, he found himself surging with all these pitiful feelings. Where other angels felt the same compassion for the human as the Almighty, he only felt a growing jealousy. He only felt anger and disgust toward him. Why should this unworthy being walking in God's garden inherit the Kingdom of Heaven?
The Lord had named him Lucifer. He was an archangel, the highest of angels and the most powerful by far. From wings of gold and silver to armor that gleamed of holy light, he was a spectacular sight to behold. He grew proud of himself, of how he was only second to God. All others respected him and obeyed his commands. In the darkest part of his mind, he felt he was a god in his own right, but until lately he had banished the thought away.
It was only when he was called to God's side to witness the creation of the universe and a small, unseemly planet He named Earth that the feelings appeared. From the creation of day and night to the animals forming, he watched in awe as God created the world. Then the Lord picked up dust from the ground. The dust swirled and shaped itself into the image of God himself. Yet Lucifer knew that, despite this strange being looking like his Lord, this thing was no God. The being lay in God's hands, cradled gently like it was a precious jewel. He breathed life into it, its chest rising as the gift of life was received.
“What is this, Lord?” Lucifer asked.
“His name is Adam,” God said, setting Adam onto the ground. “He is Man, and he and his children shall inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Something shattered inside Lucifer. He didn't know whether it was his heart or his pride. Either way, it was the start of his jealousy and hatred toward Man.
When God told the angels they would serve Man, it took all of Lucifer's will to not scream out in rage. His anger warped and took his heart down a path he knew he would never return from. Who was God to just give away His throne to these disgusting creatures? The throne to Heaven was holy! Only someone worthy could even dare sit in it.
“I am all powerful,” Lucifer would whisper to himself. “I am second only to God... but that will soon change.”
He planned and plotted. He secretly rallied angels to his side. Soon, he counted one-third of the angels were under his command. That would be enough.
Trumpets sounded, drums were beaten, and the war for Heaven began. Lucifer's angels helped clear a path to God. The archangel's pride consumed his mind. He would no longer be second. He would soon be better, greater than the Great I Am. Nothing would stand in his way! But God had other plans. With lightning speed, His hand wrapped tightly around the angel, nearly crushing him.
“Your defiance shall never be forgotten,” God said, his kind voice replaced with a rumbling thunder. “For this, you are stripped of all you had. You will no longer be welcome in the Kingdom of Heaven.”
With His other hand, God grabbed a hold of his wings. With a sickening snap, followed by a scream of pain, he ripped the wings right from Lucifer's back.
“May you burn in eternal fire, Lucifer, and let your pride consume you!”
He cast the archangel and his army from Heaven with one wave of His hands. Fire lit up on their wings, destroying them. Shrieks of torment and terror surrounded the falling angel, but he did not hear. His eyes were focused in on the garden, on the Man who lay sleeping against a tree.
“You shall know pain!” he cried. “My suffering shall become yours! I will not cease until every one of your children cries out in despair! I will get my revenge and you, Adam, shall be the first!”
Adam did not hear, nor did he wake as the angels hit the earth, falling through to the abyss of Hell. He only smiled in his sleep, never once thinking he would leave this paradise.
