I feel I probably could have done better with this... maybe I should have used four panels for both instead of two and two. The idea is that the knight in armor(Rayjack) moved his body in the way of the Wizrobe's blast that was meant for Firefly. One of his companions cried out when they saw him hit, but the guards simply hooked up the cart and are getting it moving. And also that Simon IS fighting the bats and zombies that are in the way. He has his own whip, plus subweapons(he used an axe against the giant spider remember?). Attachments:

Waiting for Al to post before you all manage to climb back aboard the capsized boat. Oh, and firegirl26, you're welcome to join(we need one more to make things balanced. Five is an uneven number, but six is perfect), but I can't make a comic without your signing up in the OOC. Sorry. Attachments:

Okay, so the Zora appears to be less than helpful. Or you haven't properly inspired her to join your side. Either way, I feel I'm missing out on some of my plans I had with the Zora, since I get the feeling after all this nobody is going to trust boats or water for some time after you get back to dry land. Okay, I got a complaint that I didn't give enough of a 'hook' for someone to reply to. So, time to rectify that. By giving us our first Boss fight. Oh, and the zombies changed clothing because the first ones were being done with the colors of Castlevania, while the ones in red are from Ghosts n' Goblins. There's not much difference quite frankly, just slightly more interesting to look at than just recycling the same thing constantly. Attachments:

"Okay." I take a moment to study the graveyard and the seemingly winding paths caused by the placement of the grave markers. "Doesn't look that hard to get through. Thanks for all the help, Simon." And with that I walk off--all badass--towards the graveyard, not looking back as I get started on my adventure proper.

Okay, before complaints come in about this cheap shot, I'd like to point out a few things: First of all, this is the boss battle arena for the first level of Castlevania III. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that the first boss of Castlevania III is waiting for you here. I've had requests to allow genre savviness, which I don't mind(so long as you remember I'm not recreating EVERYTHING scene by scene and there will be things that are intended to throw you for a loop) and in this case you were actively genre blind. For example, back when Avion, Meka, and Al were back in SuperMarioBros2, they could have easily gotten the mushroom and extended their life line a bit. Secondly, the previous comic had the sound effect of *Rumble* and *Arise!* with the Skull Knight rising up out of the ground slowly. Little tip that something was up. Thirdly, your post actively stated that you were studying the path, intent on starting your adventure proper, NOT looking for dangers or expecting your first boss fight to blind side you, despite the above warnings. I didn't really emphasize that enough with the eye direction on the sprite, but it's kinda hard to emphases eye direction with so few pixels to manipulate. Fourth, despite the fact that it's pretty obvious to the viewer, and if you want to get really REALLY meta your characters only see what a player would see(thus something 'just off the edge of the screen' is invisible), from the perspective character should have the Skull Knight just came around a group of blocks which are solidly in the way(you can't jump through those blocks, while the Skull Knight can. Meaning he can trap you under them. Annoying bit of Castlevania difficulty that will not be enforced in the comic), meaning this came without any non-meta warning(unless you count Simon telling you to expect a harder fight to test you.) Of course, you could complain that comparing the damage the Skull Knight inflicts on Trevor Belmont compared to what it just inflicted on Nocturnal, she took something like twice the damage there, losing a whole 1/3rd her health, when the strikes usually take away 1/6th your health bar(give or take)... yeah fine, I feel a little guilty there. I don't want to suckerpunch my players or kill them off without good reason, particularly when they haven't gotten to do much. But I'm not discounting the chance that both of those things could happen. Attachments:

OOC: No complaints. If anything I'm very amused by the timing.
I rise to my feet, glaring at the Skull Knight before addressing it. "Well-played!...If you're one for free hits. My turn!" And with that I let my whip lash out, aiming towards one of the kneecaps with the intent of handicapping this foe and quickly overcome it.

Just because it's an easy boss fight, doesn't mean you're going to win it in one hit. And don't worry, the Belmont family has long had to deal with having a... 'limp whip'. I'm sure there's something an alchemist can prescribe for that. Happens to a lot of vampire hunters. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And we've made it to the docks of southern! After all that, I figured the three of you deserve a little reward. One reward. Three of you. Feel free to fight over it. Attachments:
