It's the 1880's North America, United States territories. The Wild West created by rapid expansionism was slowly, but steadily, being tamed by men and women fast with their wits, and faster with their guns. Somewhere near Nevada in the Cascade mountains that stretch from California to Canada was a township called Avalon Mountain. Built at the base of one of the smaller Cascade Mountains, the town was originally established in the nearest comfortable flat land to the major mining effort on the mountain, right by a river large enough to supply water and even some limited water traffic. Good lumber and hunting was found in the forests to the north along the mountain, and to the south and east the flat land made an ideal place to build a settlement and start farming or cattle herding. The two grew to about sixty buildings, and even as the gold mines, both the major and the smaller prospecting ones in the area, were mined out, the town continued to grow as more farms and settlements were established near enough to make this a good trading hub with a regular stage coach service. No longer the boomtown it once was, but still a frontier settlement, Avalon Mountain is under siege from within. The popularly elected Mayor, Peter O'Thomas, is finding his authority undercut, and his citizens bullied. The largest ranch, just to the south and a little to the west around the mountain, owned by Matthew Torrie, a man who fought besides Mayor O'Thomas in the War of Northern Aggression, is now trying to cement his own hold on the area. And he's willing to do anything to get what he wants. Requests for aid have gone out. Mister Torrie is willing to pay good money for the fastest guns and wildest hearts who don't mind playing a little rough to get things done. Mayor O'Thomas is calling anyone with a noble heart, legal standing, or just unwilling to see the common settler ground under the heel of a larger corporation to join the towns peoples cause and keep the peace. As the sun rises the early stage coach rolls into town, bringing with it a fresh set of faces. Perhaps they will become the Legends of Avalon Mountain... but will you choose the path of honor... or money? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was suggested I start this off here, though I'm not sure how well it's going to work, but hey, if you want a wild west game, this is for you. I'm using the Boot Hill (1st ed) rules, which focus primarily on your gunfighting ability and leave everything else up to you. The rules also tend to make fights often fatal, so I would suggest playing multiple characters. Oh, and I'm going to trust you with the dice rolls... I don't mind you skipping over the dice if you know how your character should be, but if I see you hitting multiple 99s on a 1d100 I'm going to ask that you "reroll" until you get something a bit less extreme. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Character Sheet: Character Name: Character Appearance: (Hair, Eye, Height, build, identifying marks, include normal attire, since you probably aren't going to change clothing that much) Age: (RP takes place sometime in the 1880's) Profession: Equipment: Additional Notes: (past history, familiar relations, habits, anything else you want known) Base Speed: (-5 to +20) Base Gun Accuracy:(-10 to +20) Base Throwing Accuracy:(-10 to +20) Strength: (8 to 20, your hitpoints) Bravery: Experience: (number of actual life or death fights you've been in) Final Speed and Accuracy with favored Weapon(s): ~~~~~~~~ Dice roll for the stats: Base Speed (You rolled) (You're described as) (The number that actually counts) 01-05 Slow -5 06-10 Below Average -2 11-20 Average 0 21-35 Above Average +2 36-50 Quick +4 51-65 Very Quick +6 66-80 Fast +9 81-90 Very Fast +12 91-95 Lightning +15 96 Greased Lightning +18 97 Greased Lightning +19 98 Greased Lightning +20 99 Greased Lightning +21 00(or 100) Greased Lightning +22

Character Name: Llewellyn Lee Gallant III Character Appearance: A head of charcoal black hair, coarse and tangled, that nearly reaches his shoulders (he'll occasionally tie it up into a short tail for the once-in-awhile high stakes poker game or wooing of damsels, distressed or otherwise), complete with a pair of prominent sideburns and some unevenly shaved stubble. Almond brown eyes, somewhat inattentive yet always on the move. Llewellyn stands at a long and stringy six feet and a three inches, appearing quite lankier due to his less-than civilized posture and slight build. A thin man if there ever was one, despite the beginnings of a noticeable beer gut forming about his waist. Llewellyn appears to have some form of Asian in his blood, his mother (at least the one that most likely gave birth to him; with his father, no one could ever really tell) having been a native of Shanghai before being . . . well, Shanghai'd to Mexico. That being said, his 'Oriental' features are only moderate - though to the keen eye, his angular face and "chinky yellow hide" might give it away. Llewellyn's primary wardrobe is relatively standard - whatever he can afford to keep on his back, or claim in a game of strip poker, he keeps. This consists of a rugged and beaten oilskin duster worn over a crisp waistcoat (likely once a part of an equally clean suit), a plain white shirt, and a pair of worn denim dungarees. While riding, he utilizes a pair of all-but destroyed spurless boots and an alternatively pristine vintage bowler hat, made of dark material with a silken blue sash over the brim. Age: 25 Profession: Currently, Llewellyn is He is an unofficial deputy to Sheriff Irons, mostly assisting the local law enforcement by means of ratting out gangs and spotting hideouts in the vicinity of the town. Equipment: Single-action revolver (six chambers), Civil War-type repeating carbine (seven shots), holster and belt, rifle sheath, saddle, bridle, and pads, poor horse, and two boxes of ammunition. Additional notes: Llewellyn Lee Gallant the Third is the sole son (that we know of) to the infamous outlaw Llewellyn Lee Gallant Jr, a former officer in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. A famed and revered bushwhacker and commander, Gallant II was in charge of a ragtag regiment of rebel soldiers in the Arizona Territory, having served throughout the majority of the war. He fought bravely and mercilessly in many battles and campaigns, and by the end of the war, was a notable folk tale around the barracks of both Confederate and Union forces alike. In the waning days of the war, Gallant Jr. was entrusted with a grave and solemn mission: safeguard and deliver fifty-thousand dollars with of silver and gold bullion - some of the Confederate Treasury's last - across the war-torn territories and down through Mexico. It was at that moment when the legend of the honorable soldier Llewellyn Lee Gallant II died, and the legend of the merciless outlaw Llewellyn Lee Gallant II was born. Instead of following these direct orders from the dying Confederacy, the commander diverted the shipment with the help of a handful of his subordinates (the first original members of his outlaw gang) and steered it into the desolate expanse of the Mojave Desert. To this day, Llewellyn III still claims his father hid this fifty-thousand dollar treasure in their name, and often justifies his ever-increasing debts by relying on the folk tale of his 'inheritance'. Having been raised on the stories of his father - rather than the man himself - Llewellyn left his dysfunctional home and joined the first gang of roving criminals he could find . . . who more than eagerly left him behind at the first sign of trouble. This process has continued over the years, with Llewellyn roaming the Western Frontier endlessly, doing whatever he can to build some form of reputation up for himself while searching for ways to earn a buck or two. In fact, it may be said that he's done more good as a cheap laborer than an actual gunslinger. After being run out of the desert town of Los Muertos, somewhere across the mountains dividing Avalon from the remainder of the desert, Llewellyn immediately racked up quite the bar tab at the local establishment owned by one Angie Morris, and with little to no means of actually paying these debts off, Llewellyn was forced into working himself out of the financial hole, laboring various odd jobs about the bar and the township of Avalon itself. Upon discovering his 'profession' as a bandit that had run with numerous gangs in the area, the drained Sheriff and his deputies have recruited him, in a sense; mostly to rat out the local criminal syndicates surrounding Avalon Mountain, but occasionally the same duties as any Sheriff's deputy. As difficult as it is for him to find a silver lining, Llewellyn figures it's either doing the town's dirty work, or sitting in the nearest jail cell.

Character Sheet:
Character Name: Ransom Jason Kellett Character Appearance: Black hair that is perpeually greasy and unkempt. He has a bushy beard on him. Very large childlike baby blue eyes. Stands at about 6'3, Ransom is a tall lumbering man, who can intimidate anyone. Was significantly scarred during the war, but was lucky enough to have them all on places that can be easily covered. The only noticable flaw on him is an extremely crooked nose, caused by a nose injury during the war. Ransom's not a particularly pretty man to look at, but he doesn't particularly care. He wears a button down shirt and jeans, that are easy to work in. Profession: Stablehand at Bentley Stables/ former soldier in the Confederate Army Equipment: Long Barrel Revolver and a poor horse named Hattie. 8 boxes of ammunition, Saddle, Bridle, Pads, Double Action revolver (5 chambers) Additional Notes: Ransom Kellett was born a farmboy in Georgia who had big dreams of living a nice life where he didn;t have to shovel shit all day. He was in his teens when the "War of Northern Aggression" broke out, and he was immedietely sent into action when he was old enough. The poor boy went through much trauma during that time, Ransom was a poor fighter but an extremely lucky man. He had 11 near brushes with death throughout the war, and somtimes immerged the only survivor of his squad. After the war, he had nothing left, as his hometown had been razed in Sherman's March. He decided there was nothing for him in he South, and headed out west. He eventually settled at Avalon Mountain, and became a trusted stablehand at Bentley Stables, under the ownership of George Bentley and after his death, his granddaughter (who Ransom believes to be his grandson) Leo Higgins. Ransom is a very quiet man who doesn't talk much. He is very gentle, especially with the horses he cares for. He always seems to be lost in though, probably about his war experiences. But he considers Avalon Mountain to be his home, and is willing to defend it, even if he is a bit afraid to do so.

Character Sheet:
Character Name: Leonora "Leo" Higgins Character Appearance: Leo has brown hair thats cut rather short to help keep the masquerade of her being male up. She has brown eyes. She is 5'8 an unheard of height for a woman back then, but a blessing for her "Leo" persona. She also benefits from having a rather rough and pointed face for a girl, not exactly ugly, but manly enough that no one raises eyebrows. She wears standard clothes of the time period, though her shirts are noticably looser than most of the mens. Age: 21 Profession: Owner of Bentley Stables Equipment: Double Action Revolver (6 chambers) a Fair horse named Hattie. 8 boxes of ammunition, Saddle, Bridle Pads, Fast Draw Revolver (5 barrels) Additional Notes: Leonora Higgins was born in Carson City and was the eldest of 6 girls. Her mother Rose Bentley, was the daughter of the owners of Bentley Stables. Leonora's mother had always been rather sickly, and could not make the trip back to Avalon, so every few years her grandparents would come to them, and visit. Leonora grew close to them, and as she learned more about the country life her mom had left behind, she yearned for it. When her grandfather George died when she was 18, she was heartbroken, even more so when she learned that without a male in the family to run it, it would have to be sold. Leonora who was always a bit of a tomboy, decided to pretend to be that male so the stables could be kept in the family. She took on the name "Leo" and left to Avalon, to take over the stables. She has done so for three years, and while some people find "him" rather strange, no one really suspects the truth. Leo had a bit of a hard time adjusting to life in the country, but with the help of her grandmother, by this point she's become a fairly good shot with a pistol and a good horseback rider. When she is asked to join forces to help Avalon Mountain, she immedietely accepts. Age: 75 Profession: Homemaker Equipment: Hunting Knife Additional Notes: Bess was born as Elizabeth Keaton, to a fairly well-off family in New York, in the 1810s. She ended up falling madly in love with a "good for nothing nobody" named George Bentley and married him. Bess was cut off from her family, and the two tried to make a living in New York, but were unhappy. This was around the time of Western Expansion, and the Bentley's decided to go to the Wild West and carve out a life there. The two never returned to the East, and they settled from place to place in the West, and Bess slowly evolved from a city girl to a country girl. They had several children, but only one survived into adulthood, Leo's mother Rose. In their twilight years, George and Bess settled in Avalon Mountain, and started up Bentley' Stables. Even after her husband's death, Bess is still around, acting as a maternal influence to both Leo and the array of young men who work for her. Character Name: Bernadette 'Berna' Chadron Character Appearance: Age: 29 Profession: Traveling Prostitute. :D Equipment: Derringer (single shot), long-barreled revolver (six chambers), two boxes of ammunition, holster and belt, and a stagecoach two fair horses. Additional Notes: Bernadette Chadron was born into a relatively normal family smack-dab in the middle of the Great Plains, simple prairie folk, through and through; her father, a homesteader and former Union scout, ran a cattle ranch on their quaint plot of land, tended to with his wife and eldest son at his side. Here, Bernadette lived a quiet life. Her father and brothers (older and younger) did most of the fieldwork, hunted, and made a profit in the larger settlements nearby. She was essentially resigned to cooking and cleaning around the house, with her mother. That is, until, she was kidnapped. In the dead of a cold, winter's night, the Chadron homestead was assaulted - raided by a band of Cheyenne Indians, who had targeted the ranch for its horses, cattle and crops, which they had in crippling short supply over the turning of the seasons. The Chadrons were caught entirely off guard, their barn nearly burning to the ground, their youngest son critically wounded (shot in the leg by a rifle round, a wound he would eventually need an amputation for) and Bernadette and her mother being taken away. She was fifteen at the time. In captivity with the Indians, Bernadette and her mother were imprisoned and raped; she was later tattooed by her kidnappers about her face, from her lips down to her chin. By the time her father and his posse of townsfolk battled and drove back the Cheyenne, the toll was a heavy one: her eldest brother, along with several members of the militia, lay dead, her mother was utterly catatonic, and she herself was forever branded; Guledisgonihi Gada, they called her. Soiled Dove. The Chadron family was never the same, and it showed; their ranch was going under, their mother was despondent one day and delirious the next, and their father had taken up drinking. Bernadette had run away before the year was even out. She didn't get very far, though; as she discovered on her journey, room, board, and food cost money, and a girl had to eat somehow . . . she worked in a brothel in the Dakota Territory for a solid decade before she took the show on the road (literally - as she grew older, the rates given to her by her manager declined; so, she bought herself a stage coach and a pair of horses, and ran her business from it). Her travels have given her many things: experiences, courage, a whole lotta dirty stories, and a young black boy named Julius Caesar (JC for short), with whom she has travelled for three years now. After a series of rather . . . unforeseeable events drove her out of California, Bernadette and JC have set up shop in the township of Avalon Mountain, in hopes of a much quieter day-to-day life. Character Name: Julius Caesar 'JC' Avon Character Appearance: JC is a small young man - a clean five feet tall, string bean thin, and a tad lanky, despite his diminutive height. His skin is dark, as is the case with most African-Americans, and his black hair is thick and curly, though he tries to keep it as tame as he can. The majority of the time, however, his head is covered by a wide, droopy slouch hat, an old, beaten felt hat once worn by his father. The hat, torn and dirtied, is a faded blue color, with the seal of the 1st South Carolina Volunteers sewn on the front. As for the rest of his wardrobe, JC keeps it relatively simple, wearing a tan rawhide jacket over a white shirt and denim Levi's. His boots - genuine, bonafide cowboy boots - are a two sizes too big, tall and stiff, which add an inch or two to his height. Age: 11 Profession: Personal Assistant and Coachman to Bernadette Chadron Equipment: Double-action revolver (six chambers), holster and belt Additional Notes: Julius Caesar Avon was born on the road; he'd blazed the trail all his life, from day one. His parents, Absalom and Eve, were former slaves; his father had been freed by Union troops during the Civil War, upon which he joined the 1st South Carolina Volunteers, an all black infantry regiment, and served the north to stop the southern insurrection. His mother had been a slave on a Georgian plantation until she was freed by her owner, at the tail end of the war.
The end of the war didn't mean the end of discrimination, however. Absalom, out of the Army, couldn't hold a job, and like his wife, had no place to call home. So, like thousands of other Americans, from all races, creeds, and colors, the Avon's headed west, for the chance of a better tomorrow.
The Avons didn't find much of it, unfortunately. The road was long and grueling, and Eve had lost two children along the way - one died soon after birth, the other contracted typhus at the age of eight. Their hopes were near the breaking point by the time Julius was born, but neither of them saw what was coming next.
Settling down for a few nights in a small mining town in the Dakota Territory, Julius' mother was harassed by a wandering drunk. His father, ever the prideful one, challenged the man to a duel for his honor. His father won.
As it turned out, however, this drunk had other drunk friends. A lot of them. With guns. While the Avons left town, their assailants pursued them, and Absalom and Eve were killed in the ensuing firefight. Julius survived by taking his father's horse through the woods, losing them in the foothills.
Months after, JC was discovered by a prostitute named Bernadette Chadron, while the young boy tended to the stables in a small Wyoming township. The two struck something of a strange friendship, and when JC saved her life from an unhappy customer, they became something of a partnership. They've travelled together ever since, JC driving her personal coach while Bernadette houses him and gives him some chance at a somewhat 'normal' life.
After a series of rather . . . unforeseeable events drove her out of California, Bernadette and JC have set up shop in the township of Avalon Mountain, in hopes of a much quieter day-to-day life.

Numbers indicate the number of stories the building has, if there isn't a number it's 1 story tall. Darkblue is a wall, white is a window, and yellow is a fence(large enough to hold a horse) Tea cups are Cafe's and Boarding houses where food is sold. Mugs are Saloons or Taverns(and not all of them are shown... Sunrise is on Main Street, and Diablo is the smaller one on Avalon Street. The third one there on that block isn't a Saloon so much as a wholesale liquor store that supplies the two bars. And several other buildings.) Hammers are blacksmith, gun repair, and hardware stores. Stars are Sherif(western) or Marshal(eastern) Gift boxes represent general stores and various sundries. Cloths hangers are tailors or clothing shops. The boot is the leatherworker The ring is the jewler/watchmaker The money bag is the bank Cake is the bakery Book is the schoolhouse And the cross is the church This is all very abstract already, with a number of areas unnamed and open for exploration. Also, most homesteaders will live outside of town(or at least off the edge of the map). The Main Street leads mostly to the west, and circles along the mountain. Freedom Street follows along side the river(which is just off the east side of the map) and heads south, while Avalon Street heads north and winds with the river up the mountain. Avalon and Freedom sorta merge in the town, and could be considered one road that just changes name for this small town. Front Street goes nowhere, and is just considered the "front" of the town(though buildings have by now been built further forward, thus making it no longer the "front"). Attachments:
