Mankind had always been the harbinger of their own destruction, brought upon by the individualism and conflicting views they all shared. Mankind would bring war, famine, diseases and destruction to everything it crossed, whether it be another being, a place or some innocent person trying to make a way in the world. History had always recorded it as such, and it had always been known to those whom could perceive the future on an intellectual scale, that Mankind would bring forth their own destruction.
And as such, it was to no surprise to those whom came in the later generations, that Mankind would , once having destroyed everything around it through nuclear progression, ballistic missiles, environmental destruction and the likes, that it would eventually turn on itself. No amount of political petition or peace protest could stop the greed and corruption that had swept Humanity.
The war was subtle, at first. Political rebellion, refusals of aid to grief stricken communities, even to their own cities. It was all very civil, really. Denials, requests, denials, requests, denials. The congress was very polite about the way they destroyed themselves, before political dissension gave way to armed conflict, first through brushfire and then through skirmishes, choosing allies and enemies as they went about their ways. Half of the UN split itself down the middle, with old allies of the Warsaw Pact and old allies of the NATO Treaty coming to a brawl.
Australia, America, Britain, France – they held what could only be determined as 'the winning section' of the war, after a pre-emptive nuclear launch turned the industrial cities of China into a nuclear wasteland, never to see the light of day for centuries to come, making its populace destroyed, even if they managed to rebuild from the ground up. Tactical insertions and political tension destroyed Russia from the inside out, and rather than die in a hail of missiles, their armies turned instead to surrender to the NATO forces, turning instead to take down South Korea.
A last ditch endeavour completely destroyed the mid-west and coastal cities of America, after North Korea and South Korea, after easing political tension, decided to destroy the vital organs of America. Dust and nuclear waste clouded America, and for centuries, like China, they'd never see the light of day again, the states freezing over and falling dead as they had done so to China.
The history gets iffy, but the future generations could come to suffice, that the war had ended badly for either side. It had been common knowledge that most of Europe hadn't recovered, and the nuclear winds and fallout had ruined the entire continent, bringing to life the destruction of most of the Northern Hemisphere. Many hear tales of Stalkers, whom scavenge the relics of a lost civilisation, fending away the psychopaths, the murderers, the rapists and the mutants.
Oh, you never heard about the mutants?
They kinda' suck.
Like, a lot.
Follow the adventures of a group of Stalkers, as they attempt to get from Europe, to America, to somewhere safer... I heard Australia is nice this time of year?
Watch for drop bears.
