Nine worlds spin in peace. Nine worlds, ravaged by wars, on the brink of destruction, when the Council arose. Peace however, came at a price.
The Wizard shifted himself to the top of his tower. The ivory construction, white washed as a massive perfect cylinder rose over the vast city, jutting up from the mountain top. He gazed out over the kingdom, looking with Mage Sight. Looking across the lake in the center of the valley, he saw the dark tower clawing at the skyline across the valley, and he saw the monsters rising into their place. A horde of goblins came from the forests the weakest monster, from the caverns in the mountain a serpentine dragon, the most powerful monster. And in between trolls, banshee, basilisk, and others.
He raised his staff and in a flare of light gates opened throughout his side of the valley, calling forth knights, elves, unicorn and...
...Several minutes earlier all the monsters lined up, waiting in line for their contract to come up. One of the banshee shook hands with the elf, wishing him good luck. A goblin and unicorn discussed how their children were growing up, and the basilisk was still signing his release forms that he accepted the combat would be potentially injuring...
Welcome to the Nine Worlds. Worlds filled with monsters, worlds of strange wonders and magics. Worlds who are in desperate need of resources. Worlds where many of the monsters hire out, fulfilling contracts with powerful forces in a realm known as Earth, trying to rebuild the Nine Worlds back to their glory and recover from the destruction their own wars brought about.
Fortunately, the people of Earth seldom summon these monsters not to perform war, but instead for stylized performances. Games. And as so, the businesses of the Nine Worlds organize the contracts and train the monsters to obey the laws of the games, accepting tribute for contracts being fulfilled by their monsters.
And you, are one of those monsters.
Summoning Cost is a general "power level", and is paid in "shinies", a currency of magical power/natural resources that the monster is worth.
Combat and Defense Ratings are simply what your monster is comfortable dealing with. A scale of 10,000 to 100 is currently in use, though not all contracts conform to this.
Example:
Employee Name: Lord Richard Chumley Esquire
Contract Name, include titles: Mountain Crusher Dire Troll
Appearance: Humanoid, muscle bound with two different size eyes and a misshapen mouth with tusks sticking out in two different directions. He stands over nine foot tall, with thick dark grey skin.
Summoning Cost: "Three Shinies"
Combat Rating: 1000
Defense Rating: 2000
Special Abilities: The Mountain Crusher Dire Troll is capable of hurling massive boulders, and also regenerates.
Additional Notes: Sir Chumley prefers not to fulfill contracts any longer, after a close call with his tether pulling him back from a massive blast of dragon fire(the dragon apologized profusely afterwards) instead working in organizing others, with, despite is relatively large size and potent durability and strength, is exceedingly gentle(when not playing up his "Mountain Crusher" title under contract) and prefers to comfort people with his soft spoken, cultured words(he primarily grunts and bellows while under contract, but afterwards likes to relax with a nice honeyed tea).
