So, this RP is pretty much going to be a Hunger Games rip-off with a bit of Christianity thrown into the mix to make everything all nice and tasty. A lot of the spoilers are going to have huge walls of text because I had a lot of fun just making shit up for this 'world', with a lot more having been cut to make it bearable.
There's a lot more going to be explained through the RP, but... this is the general gist of everything.
Post-apocalyptic dystopian future where we play the eponymous underdogs in a game that they were intended to lose. (Spoilers, they don't.)
While your character cannot die without your permission, they will be brutally and disturbingly wounded throughout the RP if you put your character in a position like that. Keep it realistic. Making a character, you agree with that.

{ROLEPLAY SETTING}ROLEPLAY SETTING
The RP takes place after a cataclysmic impact of 8752 'Eye of Erebus', an asteroid roughly the size of New Zealand, broke up in the atmosphere of Earth in the year 2107. Broken fragments impacted further out, obliterating most of Europe and the East Coast of America, with aftershocks branching further out, blanketing most of the world in tidal tsunamis and debris.
Because science is some really cool shit, this left the atmosphere of Earth blanketed with light matter for the duration of the years, blanketing out the sun and causing a nuclear winter. Eventually, a light section dispersed, just above the remnants of Vatican city, an event come to be known as 'Penance of Man.' In actuality, Vatican City was right at the center of the lightest dispersal of aerosol over Europe.
Give or take roughly... a hundred or so years, a sprawling city has grown up around the remains of Vatican City, Rome. For those... five hundred or so who live within the walls, it is a paradise. Light shines through, food, water and shelter are plentiful.
For the rest of the almost 500,000 souls living in Rome, they live in the slums outside of Vatican City. Light barely reaches them, starvation, disease and war threaten them on a daily basis, let alone the horrors of the 'New World'. Most are the descendants of European immigrants, the common language is a mutt-breed of Italian, French, Turkish and German.
The ruling body is the Roman Catholic Church, lead by Saint Gonigan, the latest in a corrupt line of self canonized Popes. The populace, largely hopeful, follows the Roman Catholic Church's word blindly. Due to the nature of the apocalypse, not a lot of material has survived to live, with most of the journey of 'The Son of Man' largely based off hear-say and re-written accounts thousand of years later.
It is more a weapon at this point, than anything. For almost fifty years, the three successive popes have used religion as a tool of control, bending them to their whim at the promise of eternal salvation from the cold and darkness.

{HERETIC / ABSOLUTION OF MAN}HERETIC / ABSOLUTION OF MAN
While most of it is... relatively harmless, save for the absolute domination of women by men, corrupt rule of the Church and the blind obedience, there are some who refuse to follow or are 'branded' by the Church as 'Heretics' or 'Unforgiven'.
Often also used to get rid of political enemies, for general amusement, torture, 'penance' and to ease the over population issue, the term 'Heretic' is a one-way ticket to the annual 'Absolution of Man'. Jokingly referred to as 'Jesus Games' or just 'Games'.
It is held three-days before Easter, between the estimated death and resurrection of Christ, where-in they believe no sin can be committed by Man, upon which they repent in Easter Mass.
The event was originally given to volunteers as a mark of penance, whom would walk out into the wastes and return with necessary goods. Those who died were recognized as being forgiven of their sins, as did those who returned with vital supplies.
They were often martyrs and considered heroes upon their return. They are still remembered till this day as 'the People's Saints.'
However, most important for our characters, it is a shadow of itself. A distraction for the populace, it is organised games, arenas and battles. Those chosen are between the ages of 16-70 and until recently, was exclusively for Men. Women were executed, among more... brutal means exclusive to their gender.
With it being very difficult to brand a true winner in this situation, it is usually the last man or team standing. In the past ten years, no one has made it out of the 'arena' alive, due to the sadistic nature of Saint Gonigan. In everyone's eyes, there is no love loss, for these are Men and Women forsaken.
His most recent addition to the game is to make it more... 'entertaining'. This entails making it appear more like a game than a redemption of sin. Stage-names, plays, drama, performance, gladiatorial combat and training are all apart of the 'experience' now.
Our characters are apart of 'Blue Team', referred to as 'Big Blue' by the populace. Destined to be killed, the opposing team is 'Red Team' or 'Crimson Tide.' Made up of the more martial and brutal aspects of society, they are fighting for the slim chance of forgiveness for their crimes.
Rapists, murderers, disgraced guards and former bandits, they are all ready and willing to put the skills they have learned to use against our eponymous heroes.
