It's 1500 years in the future. The Earth was on its last legs, fighting through overpopulation difficulties by advancing science to accommodate the needs of the people. Water purifiers, oxygen pumps, and processes for aging plants faster couldn't even keep up with the demands made on Earth by billions of people. Countries are resorting to whatever means necessary to control their populations. Mass genocides of the sick, elderly, poor, disabled and infants occur all over, and the UN's policies get stricter each day. Adults and children are forcefully sterilized in the most overpopulated countries, and other countries wage war with each other just to curb their own populations. Human life has become a burden, and the destruction of such has become a sport.
At this time, the top scientists of the world banded together for a special, top-secret project away from the others. Most people saw this project as the only means of truly keeping humanity alive for very much longer. After ages of work, finally, the project was completed and unveiled to the world.
A massive fleet (dubbed The Exodus) had been created, three ships capable of traveling billions of miles in a single earth year and able to comfortably carry two billion people in one trip. Thanks to the measures taken by the world, this is around half of the Earth's population - and still too much for the planet to handle alone. Two billion virile, able-bodied persons were put onto the ships with the hopes of reaching the nearest hospitable planet near Alpha Centauri - in 75 years time. It's a high call, but the journey sets off.
The Exodus travels out of the solar system in less than a year, and enters into the vast plains of nothingness where there are no stars, planets, asteroids or comets - only the resting dust of an expanding universe. However, that's the exact problem - the universe is expanding too quickly. Cracks in the fabric of of space and time tear open, and massive horrors are unleashed, free to roam in these roadways between galaxies and stars. And who would expect these creatures to be placid? They attack The Exodus, and take down one ship before the other two bind together to keep their people safe. With 7 million lives tossed out to become dust in the universe, it is considered the greatest human tragedy.
It becomes top priority that while the remaining ships of The Exodus travel, they are guarded and protected. Weapons are manufactured - anything and everything humanity has is brought forth to rest on the will of mere soldiers risking their lives, sanity, and existence to fight off the dread apparitions.
We play a large squad of brand new hopefuls preparing to fight these creatures and save as much of The Exodus's humanity as possible.

NAME: Hunter Allen AGE: 16 APPEARANCE: Something akin to this. FEARS: Genetically, she should be physically incapable of feeling fear. If she were to have any, it would be the fear of drowning, and the fear of losing everyone close to her. DREAMS: It's debatable whether she has any or not. If she does, it's very likely to just lead a normal life, whatever that entails. BIO: Hunter was born to two parents, and grew up with two parents. Different ones, of course. She lived with her father and his partner (Mitch and Paul) for most of her childhood, her mother having left her long ago. She honestly had a normal childhood (so far as 'normal' goes), growing up naturally to become a beautiful young woman. It's terrible to say that this isn't all there is to her. Hunter is actually what some would call a 'test-tube' baby, being engineered by the government and placed in the care of a set of foster parents to grow. She is incapable of emotion other than determination and rage, obvious with her monotone voice. Her coding makes her able to wield most weapons with ease, her preference being a rifle that she found at one point and named 'Juliet', having a penchant for sniping. She can trigger a 'blood rush' mode by using a codeword, but every time she does this, it leaves her drained heavily, and may very well take years off of her life. Hunter is unaware of her genetic coding, believing firmly that she is a normal girl, and that she simply does what she can to survive. She can't value anyone else but herself on personal levels, but as things to protect, she takes her job quite seriously. Hunter's priorities are her fathers, herself, and the safety of everyone else. She can often be found eating an orange if she's not carrying Juliet around. ------------------------ NAME: Jennifer 'Jenni' McClain/Rikki Tikkitabby AGE: 26 ("Rikki is furever 16, nya!") APPEARANCE: Something like this. FEARS: Death, old age/Water, dogs, loud gunfire DREAMS: To be eternally young, beloved, and absolutely ah-dor-ah-bull. BIO: The future's operations to make eccentric rich heirs and stars look 'unique' and 'beautiful' have taken a turn for the strange. As a result, meet Rikki. Rikki was previously known as Jennifer McClain, a relatively successful clothing designer for young girls - and a girl who desired to forever feel young herself. She had always had a few issues - sure, the fact that she had a love for puns wasn't too strange, but the fact that she did occasionally spend an odd amount of time with dead things (that she brought home) was indeed something to worry about. And then she hit legal age. Once Jenni became 18, she began looking into ways to make herself seem younger, more beautiful, more...absolutely perfect. That's how she decided to modify herself after cartoons of years past, implanting herself with cat-like instinct into her personality, and forcing an operation that involved very very specific robotic work...but it succeeded, and she gained cat ears and a cat tail, along with Wolverine-esque claws implanted into her hands. With all of her mental issues, Jenni immediately legally changed her name to Rikki Tikkitabby, began speaking with cat puns and 'nyas', and began being entirely annoying to everyone around her. She still thinks she's adorable and youthful and everyone loves her and that if she fights to protect everyone, she'll be a superhero ("And everyone loves supurrheroes, right?! Ehehe, nya!") Well, that is, if someone doesn't decide to kill her first, or if she doesn't accidentally kill herself first.

NAME: Belinda Seuss AGE: 23 APPEARANCE: i.imgur.com/K180bQf.png FEARS: Failure and pain seem to be the only things Belinda is afraid of. DREAMS: She wants to one day become president of the new world. Or just a supreme justice, that works too. BIO: Belinda is quite possibly the sweetest person on the ship. Or at least, it's generally agreed that she's the most helpful one. Belinda has a huge love for law, order, and justice, and will go to any length to uphold that. When this opportunity presented itself, she decided that she had to become a soldier, if only to teach these cosmis horrors that they really shouldn't mess with plucky Earthlings. NAME: Rain Keenan AGE: 16 APPEARANCE: safebooru.org//images/993/62b447bb3e3a782536ff69be81853aaff25b51b8.jpg?999042 FEARS: Rain's afraid of most things, really - bugs, pain, death, darkness, being watched - it's really just better to say that there are very few things he is not afraid of. Including ice cream. DREAMS: Rain really wants to be able to fly. And not just on a ship - he wants to FLY fly. BIO: Rain is a clone. At the age of fourteen, his sickly original self succumbed to leukemia, and Rain was created in a short expanse of time to replace him. His family lived in the ship that was taken down, but he and his sister Adrianne were on a trip to the main ship when it was taken down. Orphaned and with no real knowledge of the way the world works as he never gained his old memories back, Rain decided to become a soldier against his sister's wishes. NAME: Danica Ngo AGE: 34 FEARS: DREAMS: APPEARANCE:safebooru.org//images/1105/d13773dd720f2b9ce1902ecb1c246cd8d3096ba8.jpg?1148182 BIO: Danica is the squad's supervisor, leading them through training and out to fight monsters in space. Scifi writers have no sense of scale:
Two billion divided by three ships would put the ships at six to the eighth bar or roughly seven HUNDRED million. Not seven million. And yes, seven million people killed would be the greatest human tragedy in known history(I think the largest genocidal effort in real history has been 'only' two million).
Current World population estimates place us currently around seven billion. 70^9 or seven with nine zeroes behind it.
For the fact that this gets us to the year 3510 with "half the worlds population" at two billion(meaning the worlds total population is four billion) all those genocidal efforts must have been doing a very good job. Makes me question however that the loss of one ship is the 'greatest human tragedy' in this advanced timeline, given that to reduce our population to the given level, billions would have to have been killed. Of course, given the time frame of 1500 years, they probably weren't killed all at once. Does rather paint a bleak picture of what's left of the world by this point if it can no longer support one thirtieth of what it's supporting right now.
Also, Alpha Centauri is indeed believed to have the nearest exoplanet, with a mass roughly similar to Earths... the habitability of the planet is in question, but I can suspend disbelief on that. More to the point Alpha Centauri is four lightyears away. A light year is six trillion miles. If the ship can make it there in 75 years, they are indeed traveling in multitudes of (as in hundreds of) billions of miles.
I'll probably join if I see more of the setting, but from the sound of it I don't know what's going to be happening with individual characters.

An RP that isn't 100% scientifically factual or appropriate? Fuck me, right. NAME: Specialist Ray Ransone. AGE: 25. APPEARANCE: Https://24.media.tumblr.com/35a70db03ad93c5fbe6c760bafc47d81/tumblr_n40xscJMdf1qaaytso1_500.gif This fucking guy. FEARS: Besides the usual Human staples, failure, being a burden and tight spaces are all very near and dear to Ray. DREAMS: Really none at all. All he really wanted to be was in the military. BIO: A long time soldier, Ray really doesn't give a fuck about anything, albeit he does resent the fact that he's been pushed to working with 'children'. Especially Rikki. Other than that, he's a 'cross that bridge when you come to it', laid back guy who has had a relatively usual life on the ship. In combat, he's reliable and calm, although he's more used to working as ship security than fighting cosmic horrors, but, you know... shit got real.

The science is scary accurate(within the bounds of suspension of disbelief). That's what worries me. It's the math that was wrong(and THAT is just a few decimal points off).
No, what I mean is that the current write up makes this read something like BattleStar Galactica meets the Cthulhu Mythos(namely some of Cthulhu's big brothers who live out in space/outside of space). Except for the fact that we play "a squad" instead of the actual captains and other important individuals that made up the main cast of BattleStar Galactica.
Alternately this could be a redux of Space Hulk, but with child soldiers instead of hardened space marines(and with unknown extra dimensional entities instead of known deadly and infectious aliens).
Either way though, I'd like to know what kind of technology, on a personal level, we'd have available. We currently have more "not quite humans" than we have humans(is Ray a 'super soldier' with all the standard military boosts that a world that lets children implant dangerous weapons into their hands would develop?), so would it be too outside the realm for me to play a telepath/telekinetic? Will we all get to walk around in Metroid like powered armor with built in guns, or will we be waving swords and knives(which may or may not be a better idea than explosives and guns if the ship bulkheads are fragile)? How do the dread apparitions manifest themselves, I mean was the one ship simply swatted in half by a massive tentacle from a rift in space, or did bug creatures start appearing aboard and one of them chewed through the warp core(or whatever) and made the ship go boom before anyone noticed a few cockroaches? Is the rest of the ship active(meaning the ships require massive open areas and other concessions to comforting millions of people we'll have to fight through to do our job), or are they in stasis(and we're all alone)?
Before I can build a character I need to know some of these things...
