Gimme' some time to work on this. ;3
Sweetwater, Arizona. 1885.
Situated above natural water springs and a complex, expansive tunnel and mining system, Sweetwater was originally the stomping grounds of the Native American Nerubians, an industrious race of arachnid-men who worship the Old Gods, who once called their underground kingdom Cthusaggath.
However, once they were done pushing all the tea in the river like assholes and fighting the English, the obviously superior nation, a former Artillery Major, his retinue and their slaves took the land for themselves, put their Spider-Queen in chains and cut their population in half by controlling the breeding sessions of the Spider-Queen, forcing them to mine their own kingdom and melt their gold palaces, the beginning of Sweetwater's prosperous trade.
Now, here's the thing about this world. A repressed minority of people, beings and creatures, who would go on into the later world to be called superheroes or super villains, Eldritch abominations, populate the world, drawn to places of unnatural origin like Sweetwater, Arizona.
Side-note amended, cut forward a few years to 1885, the present. Turns out, people don't like being oppressed. The Nerubians revolted once the mines dried up and the Sheriffs lost their foothold. With people out of work, they turned to their vices and crime spiked. Eventually, bandits took over, lead by one Diamond Jim and his Dogmen. Now, America's former sweetheart town of blue collar workers, is a destitute bed of whores, cut-throats and generally, really, really bad guys.
Lead by one Madame Salt, the only semblance of 'law' and the owner of the Sweetwater Brothel, the old Chinese bitch is gathering a group of able-bodied young men, women, aliens, Eldritch creatures, Nerubians, lawful Americans - really anyone who gives enough shits or just wants to make some coin.

BIO:
{Setting Notes}Nerubians are a pacifist race of arachnid-men who live throughout Arizona and Texas in gigantic underground caverns, rich with veins of gold, a precious and religious metal to them.
They subsisted entirely on luminescent grubs and rarely ventured to the surface, except to trade with other Native American groups.
When former Artillery Regiment Major Alexander Hope and his group took Sweetwater, they kidnapped their Queen, pushed their numbers to the brink of extinction and put them to work in the mines to search and secure gold veins, their ability to climb all surfaces and their innate knowledge of their home allowing them to find every major and hidden vein of gold in the caverns system. Their latest queen, a mere forty-years old albeit already the size of a two-story building, is considered the religious avatar of the Old Gods, their mouth-piece. She is called Atlach-Nacha and is assumed to have a hand in inspiring the Nerubian Uprising in the mines.
Some escaped, as far away as New England and Alaska, one having said to made it to the reformed penal colony of Australia and another to Russia.
In recent years, they have begun a rebel movement in the mines. Utilizing their large fangs, traversal of all surfaces and poison, as well as mining equipment, they are mostly snuffed out before they can become a full-blown revolution. However, there is a large uprising in the mountains near Sweetwater, who have begun lightning raids on the mines to capture equipment, gold and their own kind.
While the cavern system is known entirely to the Nerubians, they refuse to enter their Holy Cities and lead Men to their places of worship and refuse to dig too deep into the Earth in fear of disturbing the 'Old Gods.'
Powered, magical and otherworldly beings exist in this variant of the Earth. They are often repressed and misunderstood, however a few have come to notable fame, most recently in the War for Independance where they were comprised in Regiments and fought the Americans.
