Looks like Twilight is crawling out of its grave after all: www.ew.com/article/2015/10/06/stephenie-meyer-swaps-twilight-leads-genders-10th-anniversary-bonus-storyAny hope that Meyer actually took some of the criticism to heart, or will this be nothing but: "hey look, I can write a brainless, spineless, heartless, overdramatic MALE doormat too. Here's the old one with a penis glued on, and a silly name. Feminism!" ? Uhm... I remember different reasons, as well as Meyer saying "Twilight is dead to me". Also, she wrote this book AFTER she already had a finished draft of MS several years ago. Not to mention she's a multi millionaire author who hasn't published anything in years, but once wrote this entire series from scratch even before writing became her job. Maybe this article just got it wrong, and the real foreword is clearer. If this is really what she said, I don't see what's stopping her from writing Midnight Sun in the future... What do you think, will this nightmare start all over for us? Is anyone here going to subject themselves to this? Would you ever forgive your parents for calling you Beaufort Swan?

I haven't been here in forever but I had to when this bomb got dropped.
I agree that it's weird she didn't have time to write MS but did have time for this 400 page book. She just doesn't want to do MS for whatever reason.
I'm so tempted to get this. She seems to have a misunderstanding of the many problems antis had with the original series. Like, yes Bella can't physically do what the vampires can and needs to be saved but that doesn't mean she can't use her brain or think for herself or help them in other ways. I'm so fascinated by this series. I'm almost glad SMeyer is back for the entertainment value.

What kind of a name is Edythe?
Oh, and as for the idea of a normal human necessarily being worthless in a world filled with superheroes and supervillains? I have just one word to say to that: Batman.

I'm curious how close to the original book the story will be. Will Beau enjoy reading Jane Austen? Will he cook and clean and take care fo his dad? Will he bitch internally about his 'friend' Lauren Laurence? Will he almost get raped in an alley? Enquiring minds want to know.

^ Ahhh, I thought this is how it might be. By trying to defy gender roles she's making all these subtle changes to reinforce them.

My friends and I read through a few parts and honestly, the names are the silliest part.
Julie Black.
Archie Cullen.
Jessamine and Royal Hale. Complete with manbun, in Royal's case.
Also no sex, lmao, my friends and I read the end to laugh about it.

Surely Jacob should become something like Jacqueline/Jackie, Rosalie could be Ross or just Lee, Alice might be Alastair or Alex and why would aspar not become Jasmine? She's gotten ridiculously flowery with these names. At least when the kids at school say Beau's name is weird it makes sense now.

As low as my expectations are for this book (which, from the looks of it, is just a gender-inverted version of Twilight), a small part of me is glad that SMeyer is revisiting the Twilight series, mainly because I was really starting to miss this site and this new book should provide plenty of snarking fodder.

I saw it in the book store yesterday and all I know is that the last line is, "Forever is going to be amazing."

Hello. There will also LEAH?and she will come frigate in male version? and how will make come Bella-man to become a father-mother? I was hoping for a sequel with LEAH and the her well deserved happy ending. But I'm curious to see Jacob-girl and Edward-girl in fight for Bella-boy.

So Meyer assumed a weak female lead was the main point folks hated her book? Not her stereotyping an actual native tribe, not the fact she created sparkly vampires that rely on human inventions yet they treat humans like garbage, and the fact Edward falls into the same line of an abuser?
Can't wait for James to rip off this idea too.

When I heard that Twilight was rearing its ugly head from within its grave, the FIRST thing I thought of was, "Oh goddess, someone's jealous of the media attention that JK Rowling is getting for Fantastic Beasts and The Cursed Child play...."

Can't wait for James to rip off this idea too. So Meyer assumed that all the sexism in her book was just based on Edward having to save Bella instead of the other way around? That's why this book won't work, because she doesn't understand all of the many, many other things that made it sexist too.

Hello. To me that does not like the saga is the character of the characters, especially the major ones. Edward, Bella, Jacob, I have always found their very egotists, closed in their world. I find that they are also superb ... it's hard for me to explain well the whole situation, as well as translated into English. This is one less thing that I like reading the saga. In my opinion, the creation of Twilight and co. Meyer made the mistake of putting the moral of his faith (I discovered the hot water, right?). I am and always will be pro-LEAH. A girl very beautiful, a tragic heroine and for me the most a character positive of Isabella. The others I only like in some fanfiction where I find a certain maturity in characters and above all an opening to others. I'm sorry for the my bad english.

Another thing I do not like is the imprinting: sneaky and disgusting.

Are you certain this is real? I've seen fake internet articles of "confirmed" sequels of films and books before.
Here's to hoping this is a fake.

I've seen in with my own eyes, touched it with my own hands (washed them immediately after lol) Yeah, no it does sound like ridiculous fanfic and my first thought was that it wasn't real either but here we go. I'm surprised by nothing in publishing right now.

I saw a dual edition of it on sale at my school's bookstore, with the original Twilight on one side and Life & Death on the other. Just out of curiosity, I read the prefaces on each side, and I noticed that (except for the names) the prefaces were word-for-word exactly the same for both Twilight and L&D. I haven't read any further than that, but this is a pretty strong clue IMO that L&D is literally just a gender-inverted version of Twilight.

She probably 'wrote' 99% of it by using the "find and replace" tool in Microsoft Word.

The only real changes, from what I've heard, are the ending (he becomes a vampire instead of leaving it open for sequels) and the almost rape scene. Everything else is mostly name changes and little tweaks here and there. The plot and order of events is basically the same as far as I know

I have a friend who read it and she said that more or less it's identical, the relationship is still unhealthy, and gender norms are still enforced. Though amusingly someone altered a version where the mains are BOTH gorls, which, while still ungealthy, amused me
