The creature counterattacked by sending multiple thin rays of light out at the small group. Some would have definitely found a mark if not for Ars calling forth what magic she knew to deflect the light rays back at the monster.
While she hadn't thought far enough ahead to plan out a specific trajectory after redirecting the attack, one of the rays sunk through one of the white slits and an unearthly eldritch cry rent the air. A possible weak spot?

Phryx had no idea what to do, but, in an instant, he dug his sharp, long talons into the slits in the beast, and attempted to tear and pull, as his free, Human hand attempted to punch at him.

(Oh wow, a lot happened this morning o-o)
-----------
Sai was unaware of the gauging of her distant demeanor and when Ars alerted them to the danger, her mind swayed from worrying about Phryx to focusing on the new threat instead.
Of course she knew how to fight. And fight she would. The currents in the air seem to electrify around her as a dark purplish aura began to pulsate. She didn't need to be told twice, or even once, to move into her part of the circle around the child. She didn't get an answer, but at the moment she was no longer thinking about her previous question.
The thing about what Ars had said seemed a little redundant to Sai, simply for the fact that Sai had gone mad quite a long time ago and thus, with her mind as unstable as it already was, and pretty much nonexistent, it would be pointless to worry about it now. Still, it was best not to make her insanity any worse than it already was.
Attacks were thrown and the creature countered with rays of light. Sai could have- and would have- deflected them herself if Ars had not. One ray hit the creature. The cry that resonated was informative enough.
Raising a hand, tendrils were sent forth from her, stabbing themselves into the white slits of the creature and moving to tear it apart from the inside out.

Another cry, unnatural and eldritch as the first rent the air again but once Sai's tendrils touched the slits the creature saw a way to turn things around and began to suck her towards it by the same tendrils she had used to attack it.
((stopping here to allow for a reaction))

Sai reacted rather quickly to the pull, sending volts of electricity up through the tendrils and into the creature in response. If that didn't work, the hellfire she was summoning might.

Sensor Thirty-One hunched her shoulders and closed her eyes, not wanting to see the beast. She pulled her Lifestone from its pocket and held it in one hand, the knife in the other one. She tried to slow her breathing as her mentor had taught her. To feel the Ultimate Force as it flowed through the world.
It flowed through the creature, too.
She could feel it, could almost imagine herself inside it. Its strengths, its weaknesses, its wants. She couldn't understand half of it.
The people were hurting it. She should be relieved, but somehow she wasn't. She could imagine the talons and rays digging into her, pulling her life away. But then, she could also imagine herself pulling Sai towards her, not caring who she killed as long as she reached her goal. She shuddered. Help us, please, she begged the Ultimate Force.
She didn't know if it was in response to her thoughts, but she thought she felt a change. She could still feel the creature, but... Less so. As if the connection showing her its mind was weaker. It continued to grow weaker, and she realized that the Ultimate Force was leaving the creature.

Ars sensed something had changed. She wasn't sure what it was but now was the best time to push forward and kill it. There was another flash of light as her weapon changed form again this time to a bastard sword and a spiked buckler. Calling upon her own power the bastard sword pulsed with light as she charged forward, dodging its projectile attacks and shadowy limbs before thrusting the blade forward into the void that served as the monster's core.
Of course as she attacked, she used the reflective surface of both sword and buckler to gaze at the monster rather than looking at it head-on. Ars felt its shadowy tendrils trying to grab and seize her but she only batted them away with the shield. "Someone finish it off! We won't get a better chance than this!"

As Ars called for someone to finish it off, Sai had just summoned the hellfire; Flames from the deepest depths of Hell that engulfed the creature as her tendrils receded back to her.
It would have been a strange thing to see had one known what she was. Or perhaps the hellfire may have been a clue to her lineage.

Phryx was really sure what he was doing at this point. His arm was buried elbow deep, and he was whipping it around, as he practically straddled the beast, his talon toes digging into a lower-wound.
Phryx was pulling and shaking, digging into the beast. He wasn't quite sure what he was aiming for, really, but it was doing damage.
He arched his arm up in the slut, and attempted to fuckin' pull that core out!

The three combined attacks--hellfire, sword thrust and the talons--proved its demise and the creature began to implode in on itself, its form fading away until even the core that Phryx had ripped out was gone as well, leaving no trace that it had ever been in the area at all. With any luck, it would stay that way.

Once the creature met its demise, Sai's tendrils receded into her completely, the hellfire dying down and disappearing along with the now dead monster as if it had never been there at all. The electrified air and aura faded completely as well.
While still unsure about her three new-found companions, she was a little less tense now than she was before. Still wary, though.

Name: Jovial 'Eccentric' Wicker
Sex: Male.
Nationality/Species/Race: Human, Japanese.
Birthdate/Age: Fourteen.
Sexual Orientation: Straight.
Appearance: Shaggy, short-hair which is black, he is pale like the rest of the world, untouched by sun. He has the tattoos of a warrior of Bastion, but not as many as someone whom has served on the Frontlines, meaning they only form sleeves.
He has slanted eyes, and a quiet, humble person. Wears a set of pathwork pants, with woolen boots covered in leather, with a hoodie that is leather on the outside, fur on the inside.
Personality: Jovial is a quiet, reserved young man. He is polite, respectful, and although, much like the rest of the people of his age, is creepy and perverted, he can distinguish fantasy from reality, and uses it more as a humorous tool.
He is timid and shy, but very intelligent. He can solve problems rather quickly, and is easy to make friends with, as he usually conforms to the other person's interests. IS INTELLIGENCE.
History: Born along the Eastern Fringes, he was kidnapped and smuggled into Bastion by a Defiler Veteran, who was on rotation there and had a falling out with his estranged lover, and took her son.
He was raised in public education, and then went on after the age of eight to sign up for the Defiler Legion, rather than be forcefully conscripted into the Avenger Legion, keeping his life in a much more safe manner.
He never faced any frontline combat, and earned his tattoos more for the fact that he had saved alot of Avenger Company lives, most of his tattoos representing savior, medicine, healing, salvation, and one act that appears malicious and rapacious in origin, and he refuses to talk about how he earned it, yet likes the respect it earns him.
He served six years on the Eastern Fringes, and used his heritage as a means to act as a medium to communicate between the two races.
However, how he got into this point, with all these strange people, is mysterious.
Other: Smart, intelligent, knows basic medicine.
Phryx groaned, removing his arm, coming to stand next to the Sensor Thirty-One. He was panting, and had a small smile on his face.
With his talon-like hand, he rubbed the girl on the head, condescendingly at that, "Good job, little one. But try stabbing at it more than just staring at it."
Jovial came bursting out of the bushes.
"Where'd it go!?" He asked, before he noticed the people.
"I.. uuuhm..." Jovial said, backing up. One tall, girl, one child, another girl, and another man. He appeared more like the people of his world, and he recognized the markings on his arm and his frame.
He took a hold of the man's hand, clasping it forcefully, shaking it, "I'm sorry, sir. I'm sorry. Please, forgive me."
Phryx took his hand away, hissing. "Apologizing for what, are we?"
"I have abandoned my Legion, sir." Jovial pleaded, looking teary in the eyes, "I have become separated, sir. I... I'm sorry, I've failed the Defilers."
He held his head back, and attempted to accept his fate as a deserter, before Phryx sighed, and clasped the boy around the shoulders.
"Son, we're all separted. Forgiveness is given, and all is forgiven. What is your name, Defiler?" Phryx asked. The whole situation was odd, the boy, simply recognizing Phryx's tattoo rankings, pleaded forgiveness. Deserters were something of a life-destroying crime.
You served, or you die. Those were the unwritten rules of the brotherhood, of the code of arms you swore to when your stood in line, brother-to-brother.
"Jovial 'Eccentric' Wicker, sir. Defiler Company, Forward Observation, First Cohort." He said, reciting his title, company, and squad. From what Phryx knew, First Cohort wasn't really a squad, not in the official terms, and was about fifty people strong. It had ten high-ranking officials, and they were used to train the rookies beneath them. This kid was probably only younger than most experienced soldiers.
"Jovial, I am Phryx Albertyne, yadda yadda yadda, meet Sai, Ars and... the little one."

Ars merely responded with a curt nod in Jovial's direction before walking away. "I'm going to do recon." And with that she was gone heading towards the woods.

Jovial hesitated, and attempted to reach out to stop the girl.
He sighed,a nd closed his mouth with a hump. He had just come out of the forest, and who could tell what kind of monsters there were. They had just fought one, and although we commended that girl for her bravery, Jovial thought that was very reckless. New area, and she just ran off.
He sighed, and turned to look at Sai and Sensor, holding his hand out, smiling with his somewhat stained teeth, "Hello."

Sensor Thirty-One stowed her Lifestone back in its pocket, then shook Jovial's hand cautiously. "Sensor Thirty-One," she said, not smiling. She was't sure she liked someone from the same world as Phryx, who had no right to be so disrespectful. She was a Guardian, a spiritual leader. She'd never had any military training. And she had helped fight the monster. Probably.

Sai had been fairly quiet though had tensed up again when a new face burst out from the foliage. The tension eased when she saw it was merely a young boy. A kid. He seemed to be from the same world as Phryx.
Introductions were made and Sai watched as Ars left for reconnaissance. It meant she was alone with a child, a teenager and a guy that, for all intents and purposes, made her on edge.
She looked at Jovial when he held his hand out with a smile and greeting. She did hesitate at first though she did, rather warily, reach out to take it in response. There was a difference between him and Phryx. Two at the very least. Jovial's demeanor seemed much less hostile. He was also a teenager, a young one at that. It made him much less threatening to her.
"Sai..." Still, her lack of social interaction with people in the last few millennia made this rather difficult for her.

"Sensor Thirty-One?" Jovial asked, cocking his head, "Is that... a title or?"
Phryx shrugged, "Girls odd. Doesn't have a name."
"Well, everyone has a name, sir." Jovial commented, quietly, shaking Sai's hand, smiling.
"Very beautiful, ma'am." He said, obviously, in the depth of his core, brown-nosing and kiss-assing. Jovial made his way in the Legion by being everyones friend, by being everyones chump, by being everyones bitch.

"A Guardian gives up his or her name in the service of the Ultimate Force," explained Sensor Thirty-One. "It's an honor. Do you have any information on where we are? What were you doing before you got here?"

It was around this point that Ars rejoined the group, having found she would not be able to cover as much ground as she wanted in one day; the area was vaster than she had initially estimated. She did make sure to keep track of her progress by marking a tree.
On the other hand, they were all fortunate that due to the place's nature as a waystation, there were no creatures living here. If any showed up, it would only be due to coming across the waystation en route to their actual destination.
"Back. Didn't get to cover as much ground as I would have liked...This place is huge." Ars said as she walked over to the group.

In all retrospect every one of them were odd.
Sai really didn't say much in regards to Jovial's comment. It wasn't something she'd heard in a long time.
"Very... Kind of you to say." She wasn't sure what to say besides that.
She really wished she could remember what she'd been doing before coming here and unfortunately she didn't know how she would return to where she'd come.
She looked up when Ars returned. Thankfully the other woman had not been gone very long.
"... Find anything?" She asked slowly. She was gradually speaking a little more and, for the moment, she hadn't had any mood shifts yet. Quite honestly she was hoping that was a good sign. Or would last. Of course, she had no way of knowing when it'd change.

"Uuh, one minute I was being told to wake up and go make a pot of coffee for the veterans, and the next I was here." Jovial mentioned, dejected, "I've failed my Legion by not getting the coffee and not taking my post."
"Calm down, for fuck sake." Phryx sighed, "Just get over it. What we need to do is make sure there are no more people coming, before we find some landmarks. A mountain, a tall tree. Anything that we can use as a waypoint if we get seperated."

"Only that this place may take more time than I thought to scout...It's huge, wherever this is. And so far, no sign of any native creatures." She told Sai as she leaned against a tree. "Any new developments besides the new arrival?"

"None, other than none of us are sure why we're here or how we got here." Sensor Thirty-One sat down, pondering. Then, a thought struck her. "If there were no native creatures, what was that thing we fought?" she asked.

"That creature most definitely came from my world...It must have followed me through when I ended up here. As for what it is, I'm sure there's a name for it but for the most part we don't say them. Names are powerful, you know."

Sai remained silent for a bit before Ars answered her and Sensor Thirty-One asked her question.
"... A demon," she said simply, voice still in it's usual distant tone despite her speaking a bit more. "From your world... From another world, then."
It wasn't unusual for her at all, she'd been to so many worlds that for her it was commonplace.
"There are worse things in the Multiverse than that, though, Ars. Much worse things... Other things that will drive you insane with a simple glance. Things with appearances so incomprehensible to the mind that it'll break you. Or kill you... Or..." She trailed off a bit and didn't continue, just seemed to start staring off. After or minute or two, she shook herself back into reality.

There was a large thud in the forest and something moved in the darkness. The sounds of trees falling followed by a scream that seemed entirely alien echoed, bringing in a silence to the camp fire. There was a loud thud, a footstep of a gigantic creature, followed by a louder one, as they continued to get louder and louder. Then, silence.

"Right," said Sensor Thirty-one, standing up again, "But something that big must have left a trail or something. If we can track it to where it showed up, maybe we can find a way out of here!"

Ars didn't blink, unfazed by the rambling. "That was no demon. It transcends the definition." Pause. "It was birthed from the chaos that festers in the dens of malice back home."
Indeed the creature was no demon, for demons coexisted with humanity back in her world, had done so ever since the world's rebirth. What they had fought was not a denizen from Inferno. "The warning is appreciated Sai but I'm aware there are worse things than what we just fought." I should know, being the one with a mad angel sealed in my soul...
Almost immediately after thinking this she heard the ghost of a chuckle from somewhere within her mind. From what she could tell, the angel was restless, wishing the fight had lasted longer so that he might have showed off his prowess. [glow=green,2,300]"You're really too strict with me, dear..."[/glow]
I know. And you know very well why.

The silence of the creature was broken when a large claws foot entered the light of the camp fire. It was ink black, as though someone had taken a pen and scribbled the creature in. The creature, against the light of the campfire, looked like a pitch black shadow, it's shape some twisted perversion of man, skinny, with long arms, and long legs, standing at twelve feet tall. It's head was alien like; twisted in shape, with a jagged chin and a swollen cranium. It had large teeth that were revealed to the world with no lips to hide them. The creatures seven eyes glowed ominously as it set it's gaze on the group. It surveyed them, inspecting, taking a sniff into the air before it's gaze landed on Sai.
It opened it's mouth, but no words came out, whatever it was caused everyone's ears to bleed.
Then the night sky turned a red color for a moment and Vague stopped speaking in the eldritch tongue. It growled in frustration. It looked at Sai again.
"Sai." it said, the only vocal word, waiting for it's co worker's response.

((Aaand now the shit hits the fan.))
Sensor Thirty-One might have screamed; she wasn't sure. She couldn't hear anything over the sound the creature was making. It was the sound of absolute emptiness, the sound of the places where the Ultimate Force never flowed. She covered her ears and shut her eyes, flinching away from the creature.
