What's even the point of that? "Oh well a bunch of other offensive words are used, so I can use this one". So the fuck what? That doesn't make any of them good words to use.
really, I'm just pissed off now.

That was not an okay response. At all.
Acceptable response: Ignoring the comment.
Great response: The Casts look at the language used in their books and cut down on the ableism and slut-shaming.
Also, WHY are they putting websites in the books??? Don't they realize that websites don't last forever? It's going to be really awkward if that link ends up going to a porn site in a year or two.

...that is not okay.
That is really not okay. One, the Casts should have responded properly or just ignored it. But out-right making fun of that poor reader for just having an issue with a pretty offensive word is horrendous and disgusting.
And the fact that they threw the word "rape" in there for the other r-word realllly did not make me happy. I'm sorry, but you should NEVER compare anything to rape. Way to offend a boatload of people! Really, do it some more, like the slut-shaming and ableism wasn't enough! but no, you just turned the offensive level up to 11.
What a disgusting piece of trash they are.

Yeah I gotta say that is such a white trash response to someone's complaint. I mean, people are always going to have complaints and this one is really so mild it barely deserves attention, so why the lashing out? They could have easily just left it at Stevie Ray saying "Don't say that, it's mean!" and Aphrodite being all "I didn't mean it like that! Sorry." What's with the rape reference? Everyone's said the R (as in retard) word before, in jest or otherwise, so why the need to justify it with nonsensical banter? The word rape is not offensive-it's a useful descriptive for something that IS offensive, whereas the word retard can be considered offensive because it is used as an insult when those who fit the term are inoffensive. The Casts fail third grader logic.

Not even SMeyer pulled a stunt like that. I can't imagine how humiliated that person must feel now. *Doesn't know why he didn't think of this earlier* So Zoey is a vampire, a witch, seventeen, goes to a magic boarding school, hates Christian, is a Mary Sue, and has ALL the (straight) guys lusting after her yet still is self-righteous calls other girls sluts? New theory: The casts are really Tara, who is back with a vengeance.

I liken the cast to Captain Planet and the Planeteers. They're extremely moralistic and with their powers combined, they make one giant Mary Sue. They also act just as hypocritically.

Don't compare this series to Captain Planet; that shames Captain Planet.
At least the characters of Captain Planet aren't huge fucking hypocrites. Or, that's what I got from the few episodes I've seen. They have the same amount of dimensions as these characters, yes, but at least they don't act like the people they shame.

I'm almost scared to ask, but how bad are the stereotypes? So bad to the point that you wonder if it is some sort of joke about stereotypes. Then you realize that, sadly, it is no joke. Here's an example; At the House of Night you can choose a new name once you join. One gay character decides to pick the name of...Jack Twist. Yes, Jack 'Brokeback Mountain' Twist. To add insult to injury, the main cast of characters point out that 'Jack Twist' must be gay because he picked the name 'Jack Twist' and obviously must love the ever-so-hot Jake Gyllenhaal. Jack Twist and the other gay character, Damien, fall in love because it is convenient. Damien has parents who hate that he is gay and a dad who wishes he were more masculine, even though Damien is a delicate, prancing little gay. And when I use the words 'delicate, prancing little gay' I'm not trying to be offensive to homosexuals...this is just the way the Casts write all gay men.

Didn't at one point they even say that Jack barely even counts as a boy because he's gay? Also I haven't read it yet, but from what I understand they characterize religious people as ignorant and bigoted even though the vampyres are all religious too. I liken the cast to Captain Planet and the Planeteers. They're extremely moralistic and with their powers combined, they make one giant Mary Sue. They also act just as hypocritically. Lol yep! I thought of that too. When Zoey's friends hold hands in a circle and concentrate Zoey becomes even more overpowered. 6.6 What would've been a better idea would be to have Zoey have power with only one element (like every other vampwhatever) but when her loved ones combine their abilities then she gains the power to use all of them. That way they'd still keep the CP motif and Zoey would still get to be especially powerful but not to Sue like extremes.

Didn't at one point they even say that Jack barely even counts as a boy because he's gay? Yeah, they've done this to both gay characters, repeatedly state that that when it comes to men and manly-man-things (moar stereotypes, yay), Damien and Jack don't count because they are gay. Insert rage face here.

I still rage at them calling gay boys girls. And that part from Destined was so... I don't have words to describe how appalling that scene sounded.
I'm still on the 3rd book... I'm reading up to the 6th book for my blog because my friends asked me to. I heard that there was going to be like 12 or 13 books to this series. I think I might cry.

Twelve. Haven't read past book eight or nine though I've been meaning to. I beginning to think that the entire series is made of filler for it to be milked out that long. I wonder when the 10th book is going to get published, but I probably give up after the 6th book. Anyways I just finished Chosen. I think that the save the world plot is getting shoved aside in favor of the revolving door of love interests. I'm currently writing my Goodreads review of it.

I'm ashamed to say that I've read all nine of the books published so far. I try to finish any series I start unless it's unforgivably perverted or dull beyond reason. I'm also very big on YA supernatural stories because I want to write in the genre someday, so I try to keep up on just about anything, especially vampire related. Take my word for it; the books are offensively stereotyping loads of softcore garbage filled with endless exposition about things we've already been shown (because all the characters catching each other up on the newest non-issue is what a good story is ALL about) and of course the mary sue Zoey, casting circles and getting new tattoos every time the wind blows. I will say that there is an ever-so-slight maturing of the characters after a while, but it hardly makes up for the aforementioned issues with the story and characters, plus hundreds of other "WTF?!" moments I haven't mentioned.

Oh sweet merciful Ey'wa I just took a look at the wiki. Not only is it the same background as my wiki, but it is woefully uninformative. I mean, my own wiki is horribly neglected but that's more because I'm going it solo. You'd think a "popular" series would have a better wiki. Also apparently Jack is sacrificed and murdered. I can't decide wether this little display of Bury Your Gays is as bad, worse, or merciful compared to his horrifically stereotyped portrayel. On another note, my best friend apparently adores the series. *headdesks*

^ I think it's a case of bury your gays. And my friend was borrowing my kindle and looked up the series... According to the news on my kindle, it's 15 books long. I wonder if they are considering Lenobia's Vow: A House of Night Novella, Dragon's Oath, Nyx in the House of Night, or The Fledging Handbook 101 as part of the entire series. Either way the series is too freaking long. And the next book, Hidden, is supposed to be released in October 16, 2012. At least the newest one is not being released on or near my birthday like last year. Also I've just started the 4th book. Not even 2 pages in, she annoys me. Edit: Has anyone seen this: www.amazon.com/House-Night-Legacy-PC-Cast/dp/1595829628/ref=sr_1_29?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1331536704&sr=1-29 House of the Night: Legacy?
