"Fuck you." Elliot said, finally.
"Seriously!?" Elliot said, tapping his head, "Are you going to cry over every little thing? Oh, oh. Ulfr said a bad word, Ulfr just killed someone."
He looked at Wyatt and Seven, "Seriously? This is what we've become. People like Scott, Meg, Lily - dead. And yet, you got fuckwit McGee and the Cockslap Twins over here leading the charge."

Scott smiled humorlessly behind his visor. Mana was obviously talking to an invisible, intangible being. No prizes for guessing who. Elliot and Ardent were at each other's throats.
"Ruby. Override code zero dark seven, alpha foxtrot sierra. " The AI froze, halting 100% of her processes. She haltingly walked up to him, then touched his visor gently.
No one could see it, but Scott could feel it. His visor readout exploded into a dazzling array, while cold tendrils seeped down his neck, under his skin, the gray mass of nanobots binding with tissue, blood, nerves, anything they could get their minuscule claws on.
And there happened to be a sniper aiming at him, the slightest glint of glass in the horizon. Cold ice filled his consciousness.
Misdirection.
He lifted his rifle non-threateningly, popping out the magazine, cocking the bolt, letting the round in the chamber fly out. He pocketed it, slipping it into his magazine. Then, he slung his rifle behind him. What everyone couldn't see, was that he'd pulled the ring on his last smoke grenade while his hands were behind his back.
"I'm not going to hurt him." He raised his hands - then dropped the smoke, simultaneously grabbing Mana, swinging him in front to use as a human shield, using his other hand to pull out his pistol and shoot Ulfr twice in the head, judging his position from Mana's angling of his eyes and head. A meter, maybe less, away from Mana, bending over him.
Good enough. The explosive rounds would tear apart the transhuman's head, and the smoke would obscure the sniper's view. Not that it would do any good, of course, but a few minutes was all he needed. Scott kicked off the ground, sending him and Mana hurtling into a crack in the earth created by one of the monsters previously. He hit the ledge with a dull crack, Mana on top of him.
Not much time. He dragged Mana deeper into the crevice.
"I need you to fake my death. They think I'm trying to kill you because she's dead." His eyes hardened. "I'm not. Ulfr is responsible for this. But nothing can work with these people interfering." He stepped back. "So. When they come down, I'm going to shoot you. Defend yourself." He smirked. "Make it look good."
"I will kill him. One day. He will pay." He raised his pistol. They were coming already, he could hear it. He pointed it at Mana -
- and pulled the trigger.

Elliot was about to say something remotely insulting, or try to boost his ego and make his dick feel big, when a smoke grenade caused him to huff and puff.
He was so confused. He had gotten use to it in the past couple of days, but it never really wandered off. He curled over, and coughed.
He wasn't quite sure where the smoke came from, but one of the men he had seen had just been dragged off by another.
He immediately ran down and into one of the crevices after a few minutes of trying to get his bearings, see what was going on, that sort of shit.
And what he saw nearly made him shit himself.
Apparently, from what he could gather, Mana was the key to this thing. And he had a gun to his head.
Elliot yelled.

He will pay." He raised his pistol. They were coming already, he could hear it. He pointed it at Mana - - and pulled the trigger. The bullets went straight through Ulfr as he growled. "You fool. Sai. Kill him!" Mana's eyes widened. He felt pain everywhere, his heart pounding hard. It hurt to move anything in his body. He quickly extended his wings which sliced straight through the bullet. Scott...why? It was too late now. Mana couldn't refuse Scott, he'd put him into a situation where he had to comply with him or else they were going to kill Scott. Immediately Mana started to work more of his powers. Scott was blasted backwards but was then teleported to his world, Mana and Ulfr's world. Immediately as soon as he teleported Scott, Mana switched him with a husk body that was identical to Scott in every way, appearance, DNA, dental records, passed injuries, clothing, everything, and then imploded the body, the gore flying against the wall of the crevice. He made one last adjustment, making it impossible for the GCOD or any Mage's to discover that someone had been teleported there, before passing out, his glowing skeletal wings receding back into his body. ------------------------------------- When Scott could see again, he found himself in a desolate wasteland where nothing seemed to grow, it went on for miles and miles, the sun and the sky was blotted out by dark clouds that were kicked up dust in the earth's atmosphere as well as pollution. Right next to Scott, he could see a crater, one caused by a nuclear warhead, and as he looked further in that direction he saw many more craters of similar origins. On the opposite side, Scott could see a dome that was glowing Neon Blue, the outlines of sky scrapers and buildings clashed with the city. Next to Scott was a mask, a breathing mask and a note. This is where it all began, and this is where he plans on finishing it. Be careful, this isn't the world as you remember it, be cautious, and the air outside of the dome cities is hardly breathable for one who hasn't adapted to it's environment. In case your Mask doesn't have an air filter or yours isn't working, take this one.

Elliot went wide mouth, bits of gore impacting and hitting him and the are around him. A bit of gore and blood fell into his mouth.
Elliot spat it out.

Shane stood stock still, watching Scott carefully. His body was paralyzed, as if remembering the shock of being killed by him before. But something was different. Now the man just stood there, in spite of being in the presence of enemies, in spite of being in a situation where their eyes were distracted, backs turned. His quarry was right before him. He knew how these sorts of operations worked. If he had wanted them. ANY of them. He could have gone ahead and killed Seven or Mana or any of them in a second and been off without being caught.
But he didn't. He didn't do anything.
Instead, a second or so later, smoke began pouring from the man's body. A couple of shots were fired- Shane ducked, covering his head, at the sound- and in a moment the two of them were gone.
"Mana!" His voice was choked by smoke, "No! Mana!! Wait! Don't!"
He stood, trying to wave through the smoke, but it burned his eyes and filled his lungs with smoke and soot. He coughed, doubling over and when the smoke had cleared, both were gone.
"Mana!" Shane shouted, desperate, scrambling to get to him before it was too late.
------------------------------ Wyatt paced before Elliot with a snarl, feral, angry.
"Stop... both of you." Seven breathed, "Just stop..." he stared at Elliot.
"We're a mess, I know." He said quietly, his had bowed. Even as himself, he looked weary, perhaps even more so than Ratio had, "I'm sorry, the last couple of days hasn't been good to us. We've needed you out here." he smiled, "But that's all past now. You're back, and Ulfr's reaching his end. So are we." he smiled wryly, "And yes. I'm embarrassed to say this is what we've become. A pack of rats that don't know if we should fight Ulfr or each other." He glanced at Wyatt, "But it doesn't need to be that way."
Wyatt stood down, still angry, his hands shaking. Elliot had brought out the worst in him once before. They'd both made mistakes. Now he was the one who was inciting the fire.
Before he or any of them could speak again a smoke bomb went off. Soot and debris sent everyone sprawling for a second, and in the next, Mana was gone. And so was Scott.
"Oh gods..." the fear in Seven's voice was unlike anything Wyatt or any of them had ever heard. As soon as the smoke cleared they rushed to where Shane's voice was coming from. A mad dash.
And then everything stopped. A small scale explosion shook the place sending bits of flesh and shrapnel flying everywhere. When the dust cleared, the corpse left didn't even look like a corpse. Just a blob of flesh.
"Mana..." Shane breathed, staring down at the devistation.
"Scott! Mana!" Seven rushed down into the crater, but it was too late. All was too late.
"Oh gods..."
It was clear to see it. Scott was gone.

Damien hadn't had much time to react, himself. He'd been growing gradually tired of the arguing and before he could add anything to what Seven had said, everything went to hell.
The explosion. The smoke. The shots.
When he'd moved to the crevice, seeing the mass of blood and gore, his expression was mostly empty. He hadn't really known Scott. And, as Death, this was nothing new to him.
Still...
There was something... Odd about this. No. Maybe there wasn't anything odd at all. There was a feeling, but considering everything that had happened, perhaps it was just him.
There was a soul- well, what was left of it- and Damien sent it on like he was both obligated and urged to do. People were dropping like flies, on either side.
"This...." Damien trailed off with a sigh. He wasn't even sure how to finish that sentence.
--------
The order to kill Scott had not come fast enough. Nor did Sai have the time to carry it out before the explosion took place. The smoke obscured her line of sight and she could no longer see her chosen mark. Firing now would be risky and hitting the wrong target would not have served anyone's purposes.
The series of events that followed after the explosions, the shots, and, once the smoke was completely cleared, the blood.
Mana was alive and Scott... Well, Scott was pretty obviously dead, with or without her involvement. And though, to her knowledge, Scott was dead and Mana was alive, she'd still been unable to carry out the orders she'd been given.
'You failed again. Like you do at everything else.'
She flinched at the voice. It wasn't Ulfr's. Yet, it was one that she was use to. Voices had been with her for a long time, but they were always unwelcome. Including this one.
Even if it was her own. This one was cynical, sarcastic and always critical. But it was also blunt and honest. It was right.
It was another failure. Nothing new, though. Just one more thing to add to her list of accomplishments. Or lack there-of.
'.... I'm sorry.' It wasn't certain if she was saying that to Ulfr or to herself. Perhaps it was both.
Lowering the sniper to her side, she stayed hidden from view.

"Oh fuck! Oh fuck!" Elliot said, holding his head. What the fuck had he just seen?
Like, he could warp inside people and blow them up, but they had to be bigger than him, and he had to be able to see inside of them, and he was a demon of a young age. This kid was probably alot younger than him, and had just fucking blown one of Elliot's friends up with his mind.
"Oh no, oh no!" Elliot said, warping down to the epicenter of the explosion. Bits and pieces of him were on the ground, a giant red stain and smear, blood droplets casually dropping around them like beautiful red rain.
He turned and attempted to punch Mana right in his fucking face!
"You're very lucky, Sakura." Matti began, finishing up and allowing Kenichi's body to rest.
"I saw some weird shit today," He said, defeated.
He leaned forward and kissed the girl on the head, "I'll explain later."
And with that, he was gone. He wasn't quite sure how to explain what he meant, or, better yet, how to go in a relationship. It felt awkward to him, really. He had known this girl for a day or two, and here he was casually warping in and out of her life. The worst part was, that he didn't have any normal dating experience either, so this was his first relationship.
He felt very awkward about it, like he were being too polite or too formal, but that was just his nature.

Sakura blushed at the kiss, before he warped. What did he mean? She was really hoping he'd come back, fiddling with her necklace for comfort. Between him and Yuri, she didn't know if he would. Yuri died permanently, only to reappear momentarily as a spirit offering assistance before he moved on. Hell, he saved her arm! As long as he's back alive, she'll be very happy.

Shino stood, watching Sakura for a moment. She was fingering her necklace, and Shino went through a myriad of reasons for this. Most of them came back to Matti.
She sighed, and disregarded it as none of her business. Sakura has had a tough life and she probably didn't need Shino running around in whatever happiness she had at this point.
"Uh, not to be rude or anything, but," Shino looked towards Mitsutaka, "Why was Grave Digger in surgery?"

Colin turned at the sound of gunshots and saw Scott standing over Mana. And then he saw a lot of smoke. And then he heard another gunshot, and then an explosion.
What he couldn't seem to do was put it all together in a way that made sense.
He followed Shane to the edge of the crevice. Blood. Lots of blood. As well as... Other things he didn't want to think about. And Mana lying there unconscious.
To Colin's own surprise, he climbed shakily into the crevice, stopping next to Mana. He felt his hand on Mana's chest, searching for a heartbeat. There was one. That... Stuff wasn't Mana's, then. So whose was it?
Oh, right.
"Wh-what happened to Scott?"

"What? His arms are fucked up?" Shino said, before covering her mouth, "Oops, sorry. Thankfully Gingkyo isn't around. I've been around Grave Digger too long." Shino sighed, dragging and covering her face with one-hand, "I'm pretty sure that kid is fucked up. The things he said he has done make us look like we're playing at warfare."

"Were." Mitsutaka informed. "Now, they're under some casts. Sakura, go pick up Gingkyo, would you?" Sakura nodded and exited. "War is certainly not for children and neither is our occupation. A general law is that the assassins have to be of legal age to work. That's 18 in most places and 21 in the United States."

"Scott! SCOTT! Oh gods!"
In light of Seven's cries, he knew that there was nothing to call out to. Scott was gone, and what remained of Scott was hardly enough to be called human. There was no body, just remains. The word jarred Seven a bit, but what jarred Seven more was the fact that one of their oldest allies, Scott, their friend, had been blown to bits by a reality warper they'd thought to trust.
Seven felt numb.
On one hand he'd known it would come to this. Eventually one of them was going to have to die and, frankly, they needed the reality warper more than they needed the hotheaded agent.
But to witness something this terrible, this violent at the hands of someone they'd trusted. Suddenly nothing felt right. Was Mana truly the benevolent force that they'd marked him as. Was he really the savior they'd hailed him as. What was it that separated him from Ulfr, his counterpart. Were they really so different. Or were they the same, just rivals trying to up the other.
Perhaps that was what Scott had been trying to tell them all along.
"Scott! Mana!" Wyatt knelt beside the reality warper, "Oh gods... oh gods Mana what did you DO!?"
He stood back, staring at his hands. He knew that if it'd come up to it, he'd have done the same. Averis just stood back, away from the group.
"Perhaps Mana was more like Ulfr than he'd let on."
Wyatt shook his head, "He's not like Ulfr." he said quietly, "We're... all like Ulfr."
Averis was watching the remains. His soul should have released from his body by now. But he felt nothing. His body was empty, hollow, a shell with nothing inside. She chewed her lip thoughtfully. Either Scott wasn't human, or the thing that was lying on the ground now wasn't Scott.

Elliot attempted to lean down, pick Mana up by the scruff, and violently punch at his face.
"You motherfucker!" Elliot yelled, looking like he was about to bawl tears, "Who the fuck are you to decide if he was going to die!? What good are you!? You are nothing! He was everything!"
And ultimately, he would let Mana go, huffing and puffing, holding his head in his hands.
"Oh god." Elliot finally said, defeated.
Shino nodded.
"I thank you." Shino said, taking a seat, "But, I guess he didn't really have a choice. I saw what that place was like. I walked into something called a... 'Fleshhouse', and it was fucked. Underage girls, probably no older than Gingkyo, whom are pretty much sex slaves. And the saddest part? That's one of the best ways to grow up in that time and age."
She scratched her head, "I saw a mother there, whom told me that if you work at a 'Fleshhouse', you get educated, fed, bathed, cleaned, Angels heal you reguarly. They said it was better than having their sons, only eight years old, fighting on the Frontlines."

"Stop that!" Colin protested, catching Mana's inert body and laying him gently on the ground. "If you're not careful, he could die, and then Ulfr would win!" Yes, he was intentionally ignoring the bloody remains scattered a few feet away. Mana would never do something like that; he was sure of it. There had to be some other explanation. And in the meantime, Mana needed to stay alive. "I-I'm sure he can explain what happened as soon as he wakes up." BEcause Mana was going to wake up. "In the meantime, we should get him out of this crevice. Somewhere more comfortable. For when he wakes up."

"In case you hadn't noticed, he's the only thing stopping Ulfr from destroying this whole world!" Colin countered. "You want one of our best? You're looking at it." He glared at Elliot for a moment longer, then turned back to Mana, trying to lift the larger man. "If we leave him here, he could get worse. He needs to be somewhere clean, and preferably soft."

Seven glanced at Elliot, a sad look on his face. He didn't stop him. He knew he couldn't. Mana was dying anyway. There wasn't much anyone could do to stop it, or speed it along. His time would come when it had to. Scott on the other hand...
"Elliot, it's over." Seven said quietly, "He's gone. No amount of beating anyone is going to bring him back."
He stood back, numb and shaken, "Colin is... right in a sense, even if he has... betrayed one of our own, he is the last thing that stands between us and Ulfr, and even he is failing."
"Mana didn't betray anyone." Wyatt shook his head, "Mana was going to be SHOT if he didn't..."
"Mana is DYING already, Wyatt!" Seven shouted, "If you haven't noticed, it was Mana who got us caught up in this pointless battle from the start. There was never a way we could win and now we're going to die for it." he looked up, "It was trying to save a race that couldn't be saved, and now we're going to pay for our ignorance."
"You can't believe that, Seven!" Wyatt shot back, "Not after all we've done. What of the sacrifices we've already made? Of Meg, of Ratio, of everyone!" he stood back, "There has to be something here left to fight for. There must be."
"There's plenty to fight for Wyatt." Seven nodded, "There's just no way to win."
"Elliot." Averis approached the demon slowly, "I.. I need to talk to Matti." she looked around, lowering her voice, "I... I don't think Scott is dead, but I don't think the others are supposed to know that." she glanced back at Mana, "And I'm not about to get in his way for that. I want to speak to him and him alone."
Shane moved in to assist Colin, grabbing his arms and lifting him up. He didn't mind that Scott was dead, and he knew he'd stick by Mana no matter what the others thought. His death was a necessity, come from wanting to cause it.They would be better off.

Shut up! Colin wanted to shout at Seven. Mana hadn't betrayed anyone, and he was going to wake up. Everything still existed, didn't it? That was proof that he was still fighting, wasn't it?
For the first time, Colin considered what would happen if Ulfr won. Not only this world, but his own, would be gone in less than a second. Colin thought of his house suddenly disappearing, of his father ceasing to exist in the middle of a lecture. That couldn't happen. That's what Mana was protecting, even as Colin and Shane carried him out of the crevice. "He's going to wake up," Colin said, as if that would make it true.

Although Damien was still pondering over the authenticity of the situation, he was growing increasingly irritated with the squabbling that had started. It had started escalating and the Reaper was trying not to snap at them. It was with great difficulty.
Why were they fighting now? Scott tried to kill Mana, Mana defended himself. It was a simple fact. From his viewpoint, Scott had betrayed Mana first.
He'd been about to interject Elliot, Wyatt and Seven's bantering when it started to calm down.
Still...
"Enough of this," he said to them. "Of COURSE we're not going to win if we keep squabbling amongst ourselves. And of course we won't if we're already calling it a losing battle."
He looked at Seven.
"I thought you had found your resolve already. I guess I was wrong."

"Him!? Our best!?" Elliot yelled, arms out wide, "Scott gave us everything! He went to fucking Hell and back, to Heaven and to us! He was THE fucking best!"
Elliot swung back around, his head in his hands. He looked at the epicenter of blood that was Scott.
He fell to a knee, idly poking at a chunk of meat. His hair fell around him, and one could see Elliot was muttering quietly to himself. He shivered slightly as he did so, his tendrils coiling out, burning up as if being torched from the inside out.
Elliot was praying.
Praying for Scott.
Sure, him and Scott had never been the best of friends. In-fact, they met because they were the worst of enemies. But, alot of things had changed. The man had saved their lives more times than he would of liked to of count, and he always liked to consider him one of his brothers.
He was what he liked to call 'the original cast' or the 'first team.' They were there at the hotel. But... more and more, they died. Ratio, Meg, even Grandfather McGee. Lily, especially. He knew she was alive in the future, but if he had to wait three centuries to see the woman who he use to think was his sister, he would of cried.
Now what? They have a group full of the people whom are bringing their downfall.
He took a stand, and turned to face Averis. He wiped his eyes slightly. It also wasn't just the fact that he was dead, it also made Elliot question his own morality. Going this way, he thought he'd be dead just as quickly. He was brash and arrogant, and that was going to get him killed.
"We're not giving him anything." Elliot said, his head hung low, "He deserves nothing. I say we give him a rock for a pillow and you can stay down here with the rest of the fucking filth that surrounds this putrid fucking cunt."
He listened as Averis spoke, thumbing through whether or not she was talking about was real. He could be alive. Really?
"Really?" Elliot asked, his voice alot higher than he intended. He coughed, and lowered it.
"Matti is at well... probably the Iwatos." Elliot said, before an impending thud nearly knocked Elliot off his grounding.
Matti appeared, panting slightly.
"What happened? I saw smoke." Matti asked.
Elliot looked over his shoulder, then to Matti.
"Scott's... I..." Elliot started, but warped before he could finish it.
"I uhh..." Matti looked slightly confused, before he looked slightly at Averis and smiled, "I... could you feel me in?"

Ardent covered his face, coughing a little. The boy kept close to Averis as she moved towards Elliot, wary of the demon attacking her. He glanced back at what appeared to be the remains of Scott, surprised at his apathy towards the man's death.
"Wait, w-what?" The boy whispered, frowning up at Averis.

Seven closed his eyes. It pained him to watch everyone falling apart like this. They'd argued before, yes, there had always been a catch that pulled at all of them, forcing them into hostility, making them fight.
But now they stood in the wake of a comrade fallen, and none of them knew what to think. Perhaps the others had hard feelings, but Scott had saved Seven's life. Even if he didn't remember it, even if he saw Seven as just another mage. Code yellow threat, or perhaps code red. But Seven could never see him as anything but a friend. Anything but the man who had saved his life.
He knelt next to Elliot, mimicking his motion, and even when Elliot rose, Seven stayed. He didn't have many gods to pray to, and none of them would help him, he knew already, but even so, he couldn't help trying. He prayed to whatever god would listen. For Scott, for Meg, for Ratio even. For help in believing that perhaps they had a chance. He already knew that it didn't matter if they had a chance either way. They had to take the leap, ready or not, for the ground already crumbled where they stood. It wasn't just for them, it was for everyone. for everything.
When he stood his turned to Damien, still looking weary.
"I've found it." he said quietly, "And it tears me apart inside a little every day." he locked eyes with death, as he had many a time before, "I'm just in apprehension, if we should fail..." his eyes hardened, "No... there should be no if." he looked up, "We'll win this Damien. I just.. don't know how."
Averis's eyes widened, "Shh!" she put a finger to her lips, "The others can't know. You all might not trust Scott's judgment, but I do. And I trust Mana's too. Something is up."
She glanced at Matti, "Scott is dead... in theory." she explained to him, leading him away from the group, "The problem is that upon his death, I haven't found a soul." she looked around, "Oh, and ah.. I'm a reaper now. Long story, deal with death and all. Anyway, I thought I would have to go reap his soul after he died but... there's nothing there to reap." she frowned, "One of them is up to something and I'm not sure what." she glanced at Matti, " We just... can't let the others know."

Matti just stared at Averis.
And stared.
And stared.
Until the conclusion of her theory snapped Matti out of what he was attempting to comprehend. This pile of red gore was Scott? Or... wasn't Scott?
Matti turned away for a second, looking at the red gore and slaps of meat that were once a Special Forces Operative. He scratched at his chin, sighing.
He turned back around.
"So what you're saying is, there has to be a soul?" Matti questioned, but answered it himself, "Makes sense. The body is just a physical shell of a soul. So what you're saying is that... some plan has been hatched by the two and that Scott is still alive?"

Scott smiled thinly. With the nano-augmentation Ruby had just spiked his system with, the fatigue that had so addled his mind and slowed his body would have much less effect on him. He slung his rifle, and strode towards the domed city.
With the freedom to finally act without others watching over his shoulder, he would finally be able to try to find a way to nullify or otherwise throw a spanner in Ulfr's plans. He left the gas mask where it lay, ignoring it. The note he read, then stuffed into a pouch on his armor.
The gleaming dome loomed over him as he approached it...
